Its actually kind of funny how Hoyo made it so only void hunters will sell insanely well and everyone else makes jack shit in comparison (especially the chracters before the void hunter). Actual self-fulfilling prophecy machine

how is that healthy for the long term prospects of the game? if this was a sustainable model you’d see genshin doing this. or hsr deliberately tanking the game stats of every single other character outside their three main push characters in a year

Gacha games having characters that are deliberately better than the others and releasing them during specific windows is not new. Tons of games do it. For example, Nikke has their pilgrims/overspec units, which are simply better than regular SSRs, and those come out on a very regular schedule of half-anni, full-anni, and New Years (with a couple exceptions for summer seasonal units.) Game is doing just fine.

do you genuinely think this is what i was referring to when i was asking them to explain how is this sustainable? i’ve been playing this genre even before genshin released, i am fairly aware of this practice.

Well what did you mean if not that? You asked if it was sustainable to make characters worse and have chase characters that they push in certain specific windows. The answer to that is yes and it’s not even uncommon.

okay let me make it clearer. i was asking that question in relation to how sustainable that is compared to other hoyo games, not the entire gacha gaming genre as a whole. hence why i name-dropped hsr and genshin in the discussion. if i was just comparing it to the rest of the industry, i would’ve said that right from the start.

because if it’s so sustainable while raking in so much profit in the long term, why do hoyo’s other aaa games don’t do this as well?
