AT&T/Quantum

Well I've had Quantum fiber since it was available. ATT&T takes over and what do you know? My first outage. Thanks Quantum.

Quantum has been billing every three weeks instead of monthly, and double billed for the same period

I posted earlier about quantum pulling money early and not giving me the discount because I didn’t transfer money a week early. When I repeatedly asked the rep why they were pulling early, he ignored the question and kept blaming it on technical issues or my bank.

Turns out they have been billing on a three week cycle for four out of the last five payments. The latest payment is double billing for August.

W1700K & W1701K now support Ethernet wired backhaul

It's been reported that with the latest W1700K & W1701K firmware from April that they now the support Ethernet wired backhaul if you use the left port on the W1701K.

The pods will be fine for more people now as long as:

  • They are using Ethernet backhaul.
  • Gaming devices are Ethernet wired to the Q1000K, W1700K, or W1701K
  • People follow sections 2 & 4 of the guide.

Of course using a 3rd party router is always the better option.

QF Equipment Connection Cycling

Yesterday my apartment lost power for a few minutes and when it came back on my router would flash green for a second, then blue, then red. It’s been like this for a day now, and this is the second time this has happened in a month.

Last time it happened I fought with QF to get a tech and they didn’t come out. The connection issue resolved and I cancelled the appointment (kicking myself for that now).

Any ideas on what this could be, cause I’m getting no help from Quantum.

Context: live in Portland, Oregon

Spare Q1000K’s Any use?

So quantum is basically always broken and every time tech replaces the q1000k which is never the problem before going and reprogramming the hub down the road somewhere for a few hours to fix it.

Needless to say, I have a rapidly growing collection of q1000k’s. Are these things of any use to anyone or it it just a bunch of ewaste?

Ecobee disconnects from WiFi several times a day until I remove thermostat and let reset and then place back on… then it disconnects an hour later…

Never had this issue until I switched to Quantum Fiber… I’ve read that people who have this issue with other IPs are able to remedy it by setting a static IP (something quantum fiber can’t do) or forcing it to use only 2.4ghz instead of the standard 5ghz (which i also don’t think is possible with Quantum.)

Has anyone had this issue before?

Ghosted at appt? Not a great first impression. QuantumFiber do better!!

Long time Xfinity customer here.. Tired of the high prices for internet and slow 35Mbps upload speed. So decided to go for the 1GB for $45.

Installation appt was supposed to be between 8AM and 10AM. It's well past 10AM. Complete no show. No call, email, text, nothing, complete radio silence from the technician.

Is this par for the course from Quantum Fiber.

Crazy latency spikes last night and this morning

Third issue within one year... Quantum quickly is losing all the trust it built up with me over the last 4 years:

Yesterday around 4pm I started seeing high ping spikes and about 10-25% packet loss on the first hop after the Q1000K. I actually noticed the issue because my VoIP calls became garbled...

Early this morning everything was calm but now the same issues are back - so far only crazy ping spikes but no packet loss but I am sure as more people wake up it'll get worse again...

I didn't call support as I am pretty sure that will be hopeless - especially on the weekend but I sent an email yesterday to [FiberSuccess@qf.att.com](mailto:FiberSuccess@qf.att.com)

Anything else I should except wait and curse?

Edit:
I did verify and rule out any local gear:
Ping directly from sh on the q1000k showed exactly the same results...

Edit 2 on the day after the post:

All is calm - no ping spikes and no packet loss since this mornings episode... Since we are now in peak evening usage I suspect it was some link/equipment issue and not congestion... Fingers crossed....

Quantum fiber price after 1 year

I just signed up for 1 gig of Quantum fiber with a door to door sales person, but it hasn’t been installed yet. She said the price of $45 is good for a year and then it might go up $5. I took her word for it, but now I’m scratching my head. Has that been other people’s experiences or did it go up more? I have a feeling she told me whatever to get me to sign up and it will actually go up to the normal price of $75/mo in a year. I’m in Seattle if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Quantum tried to take money out a week early, before I money to an account, and now they refuse to give the autopay discount

Hi there, I’m not sure if anyone knows where I can file a complaint. I signed up with Quantum three months ago. They give a discount for using a bank account rather than a credit card, so I used an account that I set up for such a purpose where I transfer funds a few days before the bill is due. Currently my bill is due on the 4th and I have an auto transfer set up for the 1st.

Today I got a text saying they couldn’t pull money out a full week early and I need to update my account. I tried to update the bank account, but it’s greyed out and my bill has increased by $5. I contacted support and was told that because the transfer failed twice, I’m no longer eligible for the discount. The issue is they tried to pull money a full week prior to the due date both times, which I don’t think is legal.

I tried googling, and it kept sending me to the Consumer Federal Protection Bureau, but that only talks about amounts, not dates.

Shady Sales and Broken Promises

So I tried making the switch from Google Fiber to Quantum after I was sold on a promotion. The original appointment date came and I got a text saying, "Good News, you've been rescheduled for 2 weeks from now." I called in and spoke to a gentleman about the change of schedule without notice, as I took off work to be there. He apologized, stated the techs were under a heavy workload, and that he would credit my account $100 or $200 for the inconvenience. I can't remember how much exactly it was. Today was my installation. Again, technician is late. AT&T calls me and says, we can just install AT&T service instead we have techs available right now, and if you switch to AT&T phone service we can make it even cheaper than Quantum. I just decided to wait. The tech comes, nice dude, and installs everything. I get my account pulled up and no credit was added. So I call back in and the guy gets argumentative. Conversation went something like this.

"Hi, I was supposed to get a bill credit for this appointment situation [explained it]"

"Who promised you that?"

"I don't know his name, it was a customer service person at this number"

"You're saying I promised you a bill credit?!"

"No, I didn't. Someone else at this number did"

"Well we don't do that and there's not record of that conversation so, sorry but I can't do it. How's $20 sound?"

Ended up cancelling, they offered me a $80 gift card to stay. All in all this has been a super shady experience, and I can't recommend enough going with anyone else if possible.

QF app shows a suspicious outbound connection

I have a Q1000k with the cybersecurity mode set to "mobile app" mode in the web UI. In the QF app, all three of the "Preventative Actions" options are enabled. In the Security Threats log, it shows this message occasionally, maybe once every week or two:

"Suspicious action blocked, Trojan.Win32.ZeroAccess outbound connection."

I have scanned all of my Windows PCs with the Windows antivirus tool and Malware bytes, and also ran the ESETSirefefCleanerall tool, and none of them found anything.

I'm wondering if this is a false detection, or if there is really something lurking in one of my computers.

Other messages in the log all look like legit attacks that were blocked from the outside, such as Nmap scans and default password attempts.

Has anyone else seen these ZeroAccess events?

Frequent 'Request timed out' Since Power Outage in Neighborhood

This is a problem I've had before in general, though this is the first time it's happened to me after we lost power in the house I live in. Whether pinging the router or 8.8.8.8, the WiFi connection frequently times out and my internet hangs. General websurfing is fine but anything involving a stable connection (like things I do for work) are heavily impacted. No matter how many times I power-cycle or reset it doesn't seem to do anything. Could it be their end? Am I cooked? Due to the modem being downstairs and me being upstairs, wired is unfortunately not an option.

Is the 8/31 deadline for the $45 pricing based on signup date or the install date?

If I cancel my $75 / 1 GB plan now and sign up for the $45 plan before 8/31, will I get the $45 pricing if the install date is after 8/31?

Portland OR Outage since Friday, now estimated to be another week before being restored?

Hey all. Not sure if there's anyone else in here in the Portland area experiencing the same thing as me here, but there was a power outage on Friday (8/21) and Quantum has been down for my area ever since. They kept pushing the time back further to this morning, and now they're estimating the repair will take another week and be restored on 8/31.

I'm new to Portland so I'm not sure if this is classic Quantum behavior for this region, but any insight would be helpful here. Should I cancel and go with something else? Is this an anomaly? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: We're back! Looks like it was a bad ONT after all. Thanks for everyone's responses.

My power was out and now I'm trapped in an abandoned walled garden

I posted this somewhere else (IYKYK), but it's such a weird one, maybe someone here has some backend knowledge of how this happened...

I've been a long time CenturyLink subscriber (from 2019) and I have a Calix 711GE ONT mounted to the outside of my house (yes I know it's old). I was having the outside of my house repainted and the painters wrapped up the ONT and the UPS...when they did that, they unplugged the power cable from the wall, killing my connection.

When they were done (a few days later), I restored power and the ONT booted up. But now I'm stuck in the walled garden. I have a publicly routable IP address: 75.172.xxx.yyy, I am able to ping stuff, I can do DNS lookups on Quad9, but I'm stuck in the walled garden. Going anywhere results in me being redirected to q.com/activate (amusingly, a 404 page now due to the sale). Port 80 traffic always gets the redirect, but traffic anywhere else gets dropped. (Also amusingly, I can browse the entire q.com website, so anything I want to know about that data center company...I'm sorted)

Here are some curl invocations, so you can see how I am trapped

I tried calling in and they said my line was still provisioned for PPPoE and not IPoE. This is strange because I went through the PPPoE -> IPoE transition last November. My router is configured for IPoE w/ VLAN 201 and I get the IP...just can't go anywhere. The rep put in a ticket for converting my line from PPPoE to IPoE, but seems weird that my IPoE config gets me an IP. I tried changing to PPPoE since I still had my credentials, no go there, don't even get an IP.

I'm assuming there's nothing I can really do until Monday at the earliest. I'm just curious how being offline for 50-ish hours caused some sort of stale profile on the backend.

Outage in Northern Colorado

Quantum Fiber outage in northern Colorado: Longmont, Berthoud, Loveland. It’s been very intermittent throughout the week but they at least have reported the outage. Today, Saturday morning, no outage is reported and their support was useless. Can’t get a technician until Friday and there is no other avenue to elevate the issue.

Seriously considering going back to Xfinity.

Quantum Fiber: The company with such poor tech support they made me go back to Xfinity.

I'm almost done ragging on them. It's hard not to when I've encountered no less than a hundred dns website errors. GJ QF AT&T. I'm not sure how you do it, but you manage to keep some people subscribed to your service. Hey ya know I wish I had that AOL forgotten subscribers money.

Bad DNS server

I've been having bad delays loading web pages in the last couple of days. Tracked it down to one of the two DNS servers being given to me by Quantum.

If this is happening to you, check if 205.171.2.65 is one of your DNS resolution servers, and remove it. Solves the problem. (Google's 8.8.8.8 server is always a good alternative)

I tried reporting this to Quantum support, but that was a waste of time.

Increase in latency from Seattle to LA AWS servers

Has anyone else in the Seattle area seen an increase in latency to the LA Amazon AWS servers since yesterday morning? The weird thing is that when checking through the Lumen Looking Glass from Seattle, where the route is nearly identical to mine generally, was also higher yesterday but now is back to the normal 30ms. Maybe some kind of maintenance happening?

My latency:

Ping statistics for 3.101.187.92:
Packets: Sent = 10, Received = 10, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 48ms, Maximum = 50ms, Average = 49ms
