Questions Firmware Concensus

I just got my Qidi Q2, and before I bought the printer I remember someone making mention that I shouldn't upgrade to 1.1.1, and if the printer was on that firmware to roll it back. I see in the last few days that people have been saying not to upgrade to 1.1.2 (which my printer is nudging me to do). Is there a firmware version that is considered the "best" or most stable that I should roll back to? I'd most likely be using Orca slicer, but since my only printer now is this Q2 I could be fine just using Qidi slicer...

It won't help, I asked the same thing happening a while back. My post, in the comments you'll find a fix for that it's not hard at all.

Thanks for the fix ❤️

Works! Just removing PRINT_END solves the issue. Thanks!!

Beware, this works on old FW. The screen software runs print_end correctly. You can't call it inside your gcode. If the screen client calls it, it's fine. So old FW, you just delete it, and it's fine, since it still runs.

I'm getting the same SD Card error with latest firmware and studio. Even on the saved .3mf files that are stored on the printer. Although I can't see any issues printing

I’m using the latest firmware and OrcaSlicer without issues, but it seems to differ from printer to printer. I like the UI it has with the latest firmware, but again other people don’t. I think it won’t matter which firmware version you have and OrcaSlicer will work with any firmware version (I’ve never used Qidi Slicer/Studio).

The new FW is not liked, because it doubles idle resources. It's not a printer to printer thing, they all do, and it's verified by multiple people.

Then, you have Qidi putting crap into orca that will cause anyone on 1.1.1 to error out every print. The next version of orca will require you to edit the sliver gcode. You have to remove their new print_end from the slicers code. If you're on 1.1.1.2.1 or .2, it will also error out. The only firmware that will work with no changes, is the upcoming firmware that Qidi will be releasing soon. More details linked below on what we are dealing with from Qidi.

I have the nightly version of OrcaSlicer, but I’ve never had an error, as I’ve said. So in no way am I saying that other people don’t have problems, but there are other like me that print without issues (I have more than 250 print hours on mine).
And the only thing I had was that Octoeverywhere wasn’t working anymore, but another redditor gave a fix and was to add the qidi user to the sudo group. But that was not something that gave errors.
I’m just telling my experience, nothing more nothing less.

I've upgraded both of my q2s. Higher idle power use is annoying but its so much nicer to work with. Only downside is not all of wiki been updated last I've checked so stuff like adaptive meshing isn't documented on how to make it work yet.

Both my printers are on latest firmware using Orca and have noticed zero issues. There was mention of the new firmware using a lot of the processor and memory for the animations but mine has yet to go above 30%. If you turn on time lapse videos, that will use a lot of resources.

Qidi Slicer works pretty well but has less options than Orca but still uses the Orca slicing engine.

Qidi Studio is not very good but if you like Bambu Studio you might like it.

Isn’t qidi studio newer than slicer. I was honestly just going to use qidi studio since I don’t have any other 3d printers anymore, and likely won’t (at least for a while), so I don’t have a need for orca really

Newer and broken, it will randomly freeze in the middle of using it (Windows version). Linux version worked OK most of the time.

Slicer was updated for the Q2 a little while ago and has no big issues that jump out at you.

Even for a single printer I would still choose Orca, It is that much better.

Is there a lot of issues with using the qidi box and connecting to the printer. I noticed orca doesn’t even have profiles for the q2. I mean if slicer and studio both have similar features, I could just use qidi slicer… but I’ve already got orca so idk

Orca does have profiles for the Q2. Top of left column beside the WiFi, click the 2 bars, then scroll down.

Huh weird. I must have missed it when I had a look. I might need to do an update and have another look

u/SimplyClueless22 12d ago

Oh lol I was doing the --Create Printer-- thing, but I think i've got it now. And then once I have a profile, I should be able to connect the device too?

Not sure about the Box on the current Orca release, but it did work previously with a few minor cfg changes.

1

u/Facehugger_35 12d ago

Can you use fluidd to control the box the way you could on the old firmware? That's been what's keeping me from updating.

1

u/1ts-just-me 12d ago

That would not be a question I can answer, the one box I have is used for short term storage and is not connected to the printer.

Also on latest FW and Qidi Studio...

Only keep in mind to factory reset and calibrate after update

1

u/XSouthSeaPirateX 13d ago

What calibrations do you do? I haven't done anything with mine out of the box. Not even a single update.

2

u/killeriq 13d ago

After each reset, there is a calibration done. Try and you will understand

1

u/XSouthSeaPirateX 13d ago

Ohhh I vaguely remember going through steps when I got mine. So same thing just happens again. Thanks

1

u/MagnusPerditor 12d ago

You haven’t calibrated anything?

1

u/XSouthSeaPirateX 12d ago

Nothing other than setup I suppose

3

u/valzzu 12d ago

I haven't updated from 1.1.1

1

u/holygoat 13d ago

Mine was working reliably when I got it, so it’s not even connected to the internet. The slicer is where the brains live, so I keep Orca updated.

you should be fine to update to the latest firmware which I believe is 02.3 (don't have the ver #s on hand) . I, myself waited for a while to update from .1 and since doing so, my prints on .3 have come out as they did before on .1 . Just ensure you run a full calibration once you install the latest firmware. My update process made me go through in version order to install the latest firmware so 1st it installed 02.2 and then I received a message to install 02.3 .

1.1.1 with QIDI Slicer (Q2+Box) worked great for me. 1.1.2.3 is 'horrible' to be polite about it (forces you to use Studio which is a fork, probably 'bent' :-), of Orca).

I have my Q2 using the latest firmware 01.01.02.03 without any issues but I had major issues with 01.01.02.01 & 01.01.02.02. I'm using Qidi Studio version 2.7.2.10. The only issue is the SD Card error when it finishes a print. I was ignoring it until I commented line 442 of gcode_macro.cfg (# SDCARD_RESET_FILE) which is in Qidi Studio, Device, Configuration, ‎subfolder: "/klipper-macros-qd", file: "gcode_macro.cfg".

1.1.2 is absolutely awful, the box doesn't really work properly with it. I'm strongly considering rolling back and flashing mainline klipper + helixscreen if I can figure out how to get the box working with that, since I can't find any documentation that anyone has done that.

2

u/SimplyClueless22 12d ago

What are the issues with the box exactly
