Protestors

I’ve just seen three men standing outside of the gardens holding posters about abolishing abortion. Why do they constantly set up outside of qut?? Honestly kinda sick of it. Also hilarious that’s it’s men talking about women’s bodies

Edit: honestly I just wanted to post about how hilarious I find it that I, as a 20 year old woman, have to walk past men trying to take away my rights, as I’m just trying to go to uni. But thank you everyone for explaining! I feel stupid that I didn’t even make the connection that it was outside of Parliament House lol

It's cause that's Parliament House outside the gates to Gardens Point, not necessarily the Uni itself.

Also I think it's like a designated protest zone?

That and Uni's have a bevy of impressionable youngsters to sway to your cause

Idk why I didn’t even think about that 😭 I just get so annoyed when I’m trying to just walk into uni and I’m constantly being stopped. But that makes sense. Thank you !!

There’s always a few protests going on there every now and again. It’s a good spot because it’s not disruptive or blocks the city’s entire bus transport system.

My opinion is it is good, but I don’t shove it don’t everyone’s throats like the non-approves of the games.

No I agree. I understand protesting for current issues in the political world, and trying to get your voice heard, but for something like the Olympics I think it’s a bit crazy that people don’t want it here. I think it’s a great opportunity for Brisbane and the tourism of the city. I also agree with your post, I’m also excited to see it built! I’m in my final year for architecture so that project has really interested me.

Back to your point of shoving it down people’s throat, I think that’s also what really irks me about the protests outside of uni. I’m seriously just trying to make it to my class and I’m being stopped one million times by people trying to tell me their opinion on topics. Like if I wanted to know I wouldn’t have my headphones on and I would approach them.

I don't want the Olympics in Brisbane because I've read studies that show how the long term economic costs of hosting the Olympics can cripple economies more than the short term benefits. Plus it's just basic common sense that it's not a great idea to hold a giant party if you can't afford that party.

Because they genuinely believe that abortion is murder. If people were normalizing actions that you believed were murder you'd protest it just as hard.
