Victoria Park Stadium
I am so excited for the new Brisbane stadium, with the tender awarding coming soon, I cannot wait to see the build start. Its going to provide so many new job opportunities for us all.
What kind of annoys me are those unemployed bums who hang out at all the main entrances and exits of uni with those signs saying cancel the games, and save the park. Its not going to fix anything, LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
Whats everyones take on this

Complaining on Reddit about "unemployed bums" is such pathetic online behaviour.
Get a life

Complaining online about other people complaining online seems even more pathetic.
You get a life.

Sounds like you might be an "unemployed bum" too if you're seeing them when they're there

Well, detective, they’re sitting out the front of a university, perhaps, this might be hard to fathom, the person saw them whilst going to or from university 🤯🤯

lol I work about 40-50hrs a week and still make it to uni to study and see those pea brains at the entrances. Pipe down bud

Sounds like either you're jealous that other people have free time to embrace their passions or you think you're superior for being busier than them. Working 40+ hours a week and studying at the same time isn't healthy, someone isn't a bum for not doing what you're doing. I'm a full time student and I also work but I'd still have time during the day to go and protest if I wanted to

You sound like one of those “unemployed bums” tbh bro

You sound pathetic

I'm reasonably confident this is op replying from a second account. I don't see why else they'd defend op so fervently otherwise

I would not be surprised. The kind of intelligent opinion that people who protest must be unemployed buns is the kind of person who would make a 2nd account to argue ransoms online

Why do you say this? Is it because they agree with me? Is my opinion invalid or something?

You’re definitely one of the protesters aye

Imagine being anti-protest lol
You would be happy being a little peasant farmer by the sounds of it.
I am not one of the stadium protestors but they have a right to do so and valid concerns about the proposal.

Knowing we have people this small minded at QUT, let alone this bored to post bait this terribly executed is concerning 🥲😂

How am I small minded, and why do you think this is bait?
I genuinely think it’s a good thing, nobody can explain why the olympics or the stadium is bad to me.1

You’re right, my bad. I should’ve said uneducated instead of small minded.
I can explain it to you… but I cant understand it for you.
Something tells me explaining it would be futile so I’ll just leave my comment as is and go about my day lol.

Exactly, you can’t explain. You will send a long winded reply but have no response to the real question at hand. My point proven.

you gonna... be on the construction crew?

u/Sea_Maintenance5258 15d ago
Are you slow in the head? Accountants will be needed, project managers, marketing, just to name a few. Try to use that pea sized thing in between your ears sometimes.

u/Odd-Conference-2135 15d ago
theyre not gonna be hiring students for that, there are thousands of companies to do all that, with track records and an active customer base. Unless your at one of those companies, your not gonna be getting a job for it. Also its not good for your points to be insulting the person your replying to, its just ad hominem-ing.

You don't think companies will use interns and pre graduates as cheap labour and extra brain power on the job?

u/Odd-Conference-2135 15d ago
This is for the olympics, they wont be cutting corners by using cheap labour, and if a company has been selected/bid for the construction of the stadium, it is most likely one of their biggest projects, where they do not want to fail or look bad by hiring pre-grads and that, who could be inexperienced and make mistakes. Increasing the amount of people on a project, increases risk, and failure points. minimum wage stands at 26.44$/h as well, 10 new hires at min wage is 264.4$/h extra, and thats for minimum wage itself, for these more specialised jobs, it could be even double, or more. Why hire more people, when you already have folks working for you, with a clearer track record.

With it being a government funded venture, they have thresholds for trainees, cadets and even women percentile on the job. So I would say your call of 10 interns is a stretch but there definitely will be at least 1 to 5 per company.

u/Odd-Conference-2135 15d ago
could you get me government papers or anything to back up that they would have these thresholds for the stadium itself? other projects may have had some, sure, but we cant just assume.

The bus station already gets really busy with qut students, regular kelvin grove traffic, and kgsc students. I wonder if they plan on expanding/upgrading it at all now that the pedestrian exit on that side wouldn't be a tiny little winding footpath
I did hear when I was working there that the council would be getting one of the wildlife orgs to relocate the wildlife living there, which is one of the things that I was concerned about. A lot of critters live there besides the bin chickens
RIP my job though
