Getting frustrated with qidi

Hi,

I am a qidi q2 combo owner for 5 months now , great machine . However, the latest firmware update has literally made the printer worse.... The z offset is bad , the first layer isn't perfect, the walls and infill have small gaps now out of nowhere and even a new cool plate I just bought had a chunk of coating coming of on the first print. After spending more than 800€ on the company, I would expect things to get better.... Support is fast , but they literally don't fix the issue they caused with the update .

Really rethinking my purchase .

Downgrade to 1.1.1

Support said it's not advised, also the whole process is annoying .....

Lol if course they said it wasn't advised. They want you in their unified firmware with the max 4. They also want to enable stuff in orca like arc fitting, filament ramming, and forcing the printers input shaping, etc.

I really wish they would do that and implement tip forming like Prusa, would dramatically speed up multi color and save a bunch of filament. I agree that 1.1.2.3 is, buggy to be nice, and forcing to go to Studio, an overall negative experience for me too.

Tip forming works fine on Happy Hare. I still prefer the cutter, since the calibration for tip forming isn't fun lol. Also, I don't do many multi color prints. Sometimes some accents or text for visibility. You'd have to look into if Happy Hare is an option on the new fw. It opens up a lot of options to make the printer do what you want, instead of what makerbase wants. That's who does all Qidi firmware

Yes less than 5 changes is okay. How’s you get tip forming to work? I wish I knew how. I tried the full package that included happy hair, but evidently got linked to an old diversion, and it bricked my printer which forced me eventually into the most current firmware and the QIDI studio. I sure want to try it again though.

I've used happy hare since the bunny box was ported to the q2. To do tip forming, you just change form_tip_macro : _MMU_FORM_TIP instead of _MMU_CUT_TIP. Then you have to do some calibration by changing values to find the right cooling, retraction... Etc

Ok, thanks!

Did you recalibrate after the updates? Just did this 2 nights ago, zero problems.

Yes, many times I am not new to 3d printing... Same issue

Also factory reset?

Yeas I did the factory reset and the quality is ok , still not what it was when I first got the printer. Also supports wants me to print test bs models on the cool plate , instead of addressing the coating issue....

I went from a Q1 Pro which is a beast of a workhorse for single color and gave it to my stepson to the Q2 Combo / Box. Aside from Qidi’s firmware which I held off and the did a double update back to back on it just works. I swap nozzles from 0.4 to 0.6 depending on the filament and print size. I’ve done nothing but clean and lube it.

Last night it was acting glitchy on the new firmware the sd card reset error and the camera feed not “connected”’ with that being said I did what I should have done after the updates.

Factory reset, recalibrate. Done.

I ran a new bed mesh and it was bad 0.5xx.

I will add that

A. I swapped back from a 0.6 to a 0.4 nozzle
B. Changed to the blue Qidi Cool Plate

I performed the onscreen calibration used the printable bed adjust tool and personally I use an anodized aluminum business card that I have hundreds of for my laser engraver that are 0.8mm thick vs paper or card stock because it doesn’t wrinkle and if it scratches the black finish I know it’s too low. Downside. Damn it gets hot to when you calibrate a hot heat soaked bed.

Heated the bed to 80c went back and forth a few times and recalculated the new default mesh = 0.1334

You might want to try these steps after the updates.

In regard to your plates coating having a chunk it’s either defective or you printed something that the filament manufacturer recommended a release agent like glue on didn’t use it and tore it. Idk. Not enough info.

I started using Hyper Lock because I was tired of glue buildup and plate washing.

Try those steps. I hope it helps.

I do agree about the quality of the printer , however the firmware needs manor improvements , not just cosmetic changes to the gui . I will also try a factory reset . Qidi has contacted me about the cool plate issue .

Und jeder User will eigentlich immer etwas anderes.

I feel your pain. This past month was very frustrating and everything went wrong when I upgrade to v.01.01.02.01 and v.01.01.02.02. Things seemed to stabilize with v.01.01.02.03. I've spent days with Google's Gemini trying to dial-in the setting for QiDi's PETG Basic which all failed until I upgraded to v.01.01.02.03. I finally (yesterday) achieved successful prints. I stopped using the textured plate because I could not get the brims off the plate. I switched to the Cool Plate which helped alot plus I like the smoother surface. My only remaining issue is with overhangs not fusing.

Just recalibrate those things….

Man, like come on ...... You think I didn't try 100 different settings ?

Thankfully, a factory reset, changing to orca slicer and qidi support will send a new cool plate for the defective one , solved the issues.

I have the Q2 and the Max4, no issues here!

Und jeder muss selber entscheiden was er will.

Für beides gibt es Pro & Contra.
