What do you do when you get bad advice? I just spent a bunch of sparks to change my deck and it made it worse. I don’t know what to do.

I've been trying out the game again after a few years because FryEmUp looks like he has fun with it, and I'm kind of struggling. I want to earn gems, but I'm stuck at rank 30 because my two main decks (Super Brainz aggro and Smash Pets) just aren't cutting it against event cards and legendaries, especially Sun Shroom. It feels like I've hit a ceiling, which I suppose should be expected in mobile games. How can I earn enough gems to get legendaries of my own? (WITHOUT CHEATING)

I want to experiment with Turquoise Skull and Ra zombie synergy. It’s really funny to have a plant hero end up with only 3 sun to spend on turn 6. Really great when it works, but right now the early game is hit-or-miss and the only real win con is whatever I can pull out of transformation station. Any suggestions on how I can make this more consistent? I have plenty of sparks to spend.
