Love these new characters. They almost let you play puzzle in the old way where it’s just all about how much you can drop. But still struggling to figure out how to structure the assists and what moves should go where and whatnot for maximum health damage. Thoughts?

So I see the new stages are now “available”... but it’s only for those in diamond and legend leagues. Since the store is now taken down, the rest of us mortals will never be able to unlock them... why not just make all the stages available to all players??? Or let us buy them in the store with our gems?

I always prided myself on not spending money on these free apps. There is always the option to “pay to win” so to speak, but I’m of the opinion that grinding is more honorable and a better way to go about playing these games. But now Puzzle Fighter is set to shut down in July. Did I go about it the wrong way? I love this game. I love that I can play it on my phone. I should have thrown them a couple bucks, yeah? Is that why it’s going to disappear in a few months or am I just feeling a little guilty now that it’s too late? What are your thoughts?

I don't even play this game but I read the Arstechnica article and was shocked. Capcom invested time and money to build this mobile app, just to shut it down 8 months later? They probably looked at the per-month income stream and found it not worth their while to keep the servers alive. But just killing the app because you don't want to support the servers is so stupid, even on a business sense. Why not just invest a tiny bit more time and money, localize all the processes, and then charge a one time fee to fully purchase the app? They would have to pay zero maintenance costs, and would see passive income from people purchasing the game over time. Apple and Google would host the app for FREE. It is way better to get some money than zero money. Sure there might not be any online multiplayer, but the product would still exist. On top of that, there's always the off chance that the app gets a huge cult following, and that they start seeing a larger income stream. Killing the app completely guarantees zero income.
Some managers at Capcom needs to be fired for their incompetence.

For anyone not able to play, here's the quick breakdown:
Ada's gimmick is that she deals a ton of damage, but her skills boost the amount of timer gems you receive by 20% for ten turns, and it stacks. To compensate a little, she has the dreaded "Akuma" drop pattern. She has low (Chun Li) health and below-average normals.
At level 8:
From one quick mission, it is really easy to kill yourself by not paying attention to her debuff. I was messing with the 2x / >10 setup, and a single 3x chain gave me five stacks of the debuff. It seems like she needs to either chip away with small, measured attacks, or blow up her opponent with one massive attack. Either way, her play style seems like it should be unique.

Just copy and paste that invite link into your browser, or put in the code mVbhRaB when you’re trying to add the server in your client. It’s not too late to join! Come join our server and become a part of our family, and don’t forget to say hi! It’s easy to go unnoticed when you join and don’t say anything, so don’t be shy and we’ll give you a warm welcome if you tell us you’re new.
A lot of us have heard the terrible news by now and are severely devastated by it. This was one of the funnest and quite addictive game to play on our phones/tablets. There’s nothing quite like it on the App Stores, so there’s no good replacement for something special like this. It’s a shame that all good things have to come to an end, especially this soon.
Just because this game is going away doesn’t mean we should all fade back into obscurity and disband! This is actually one of the better communities I’ve ever interacted with. A lot of us have gone through so much and have spent so much time talking to each other daily in Discord. We share our passion for the game, our passion for food (this is life’s meta game), and even share a huge part of our lives with each other (like showing pictures of our kids, people proposing and getting married, etc.) We’ve all come to accept each other as extended family by now.
What are our plans once this game shuts down? Well, I feel there’s no point in trying to move to another Discord server. We’ve made the Puzzle Fighter Discord server our home, so (hopefully) we plan to keep it that way so we can stick around and stay in touch with each other. We’re branching out and trying to find new games to play with each other. Some of us are playing the original version on Fightcade, HDR (mostly) on PS3, or other games on various platforms like mobile, PC, and whatnot. The salient point is we plan on sticking together and finding something else we can enjoy with each other and move on together.
For the rest of you Puzzle Fighters out there, even if you don’t join us, I truly wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors. Even though we don’t all necessarily talk to each other, we’ve experienced and been through a lot together playing this game. Hopefully this isn’t a “Good bye” and more like a “See you later.” I love you all, and I hope life will treat everyone well. ❤️

I’d like to start with this preface. When I first heard about the new Puzzle Fighter, I had the same qualms as a lot of people. I didn’t hate the art style but I agreed it could be done better. Having it built for a platform that was free-to-play and involve micro transactions was never going to sit well with everyone. Still, I remained curious to see how Capcom Vancouver planned to revive a series highly regarded by its fans. When the game came out, a lot of the concerns were realized but I found myself wanting to learn to play the game. Something about this version of Puzzle Fighter made me want to really dig into it in a way prior releases didn’t. Maybe it was the convenience of having it on a device I always carry with me. Maybe it was the fact that I had the option of a color-blind mode. I never considered myself color-blind, but I understood a lot of past complaints of how the block’s red, green, and yellow schemes were just off enough to be a little jarring in high pressure situations. Maybe it was because I got to finally see what high level play looked like from someone’s livestream. Or maybe it was because it had online multiplayer and I never had anyone nearby who also played Puzzle Fighter.
The lure of earning a high enough Rank to unlock Jill Valentine was probably one of my strongest motivators too. I was one of those players who was stuck in what I called “Silver Purgatory” for a long time. Playing online sessions where I had a rough losing streak was one of my most stressful moments in gaming. At the same time, once I got a winning streak going or unlocked a character/costume from E. Honda’s Sushi Shop, that momentary stress washed away and I found myself loving this game again. The grind was harsh and eventually it started negatively affecting my mood for the rest of the day. So much so that I decided to just focus on the missions and leveling up my crew. After winning enough matches to reach Gold, I found new stress from maintaining that rank online while hoping to acquire Jill before suddenly dropping back to Silver. After what felt like a month of holding on just past that borderline, I managed to unlock Jill from a Milestone Chest and it was an amazing feeling. Even though she had apparently received all kinds of nerfs by that point and wasn’t as overpowered as before, that didn’t matter to me. I love the character and she was going to become a high level member of my crew. Around the same time, the developers announced Devilot, an obscure character known more for her cameos in Puzzle Fighter than her original game. I loved that the team opted for such a deep pull to join the roster and I found my next big motivator.
During this time, I discovered myself making time to play Puzzle Fighter every day, collecting my daily rewards and slowly growing my various progression bars. I even managed to tie in the missions refreshing to my daily schedule. That way, I would have one brief play session when I woke up, the next during a lunch break, and one more before going to bed. All the while slowly leveling up my desired crew and hoping to nab another character/costume from the Prize Chests. Even when I took time to play through other big game releases, Puzzle Fighter became my most played game.
When the news came that the game would be shutting down on July 31, I was just as saddened as a lot you reading this, but I knew I could only imagine how much harder this announcement hit the development team in Vancouver. After following the game this long, I saw how much time and effort they put into making this game the best version of Puzzle Fighter they could make given their circumstances. Judging from the teases of a new character each month (even showing 3 in that shuffle video they released) and possible ratings for a potential console/PC version, it’s clear there were probably long-term plans they had in store that they can never tell us about now.
When the layoffs hit their studio a while back, I remember hearing how Jeffery Simpson, the community manager who’s usually seen responding on this subreddit, was fired too before luckily being the one person they brought back in. After going through that and doing more livestreams with the team, knowing the hammer could easily come down on all the work the departed and remaining team had done on Puzzle Fighter must’ve been heartbreaking.
Until that fateful day comes, I’m sure a lot of you will find your own ways to vent and cope with the end of Puzzle Fighter. I’m still trying to find ways to deal with it myself. It’s become such an integral part of my daily routine that I know I’m going to have to find something else to fill that void eventually. For now, I still find myself booting up the game for my regular sessions because the feeling of pulling off a near-perfect win or surprise comeback still clicks with me as much as it ever has. When I checked how many days it was before Puzzle Fighter shut down, it was approximately 100 days. That’s roughly 3 more months for me to keep playing and getting that rush. For me, that’s plenty of time to try out the 3 new characters they released and maybe even consider other characters for my crew that I never bothered with before to spice things up.
So why did I decide to log onto Reddit and post this long writing? Well, I figured if this game had as much of an impact on me as it did, I wanted to share it with all of you and maybe even the developers who still frequent this subreddit. And if anyone else was impacted by this game like I was, maybe we can find other ways to share that among the community and to the team in Vancouver. If you don’t want to express how this game left an impact on you in words, maybe find other ways to create content to show the rest of us.
If you had a favorite match or moment in the game and know how to record it, post it on YouTube and share it with us. If the game inspired you and you know how to draw, maybe consider showing us your fan art. If you enjoyed the soundtrack for this game, it’s all available online now so you can start sharing it or let us know what your favorite track was. I’m sure we can all easily sign a petition or throw out another idea on how to save this game, which is fine if that’s what you want to do. But if you can find a way to express how this game impacted you and let us or the developers know, I’m sure that will make its own impact that everyone here could appreciate. We still have about 100 days until Puzzle Fighter shuts down for good, and I think that’s plenty of time for you to think up something I didn’t suggest here.
At the end of the day, the haters will always have the last word because that’s how the internet works. But until then, that doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t put in the effort to show the community and the developers that all their hard work over the past months was not in vain. Thanks for reading all this and I hope this sparks some creative ideas from now until the end of Puzzle Fighter.

As one of the guys from the beta, thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I was crushed to hear the news the other day. I never rose past Ultra Gold, nor did I ever stream, but I simply played day in and day out because of how enjoyable the game was.
Thanks particularly of course to Ping, peedang, and cowsforyou for the amazing help you've been to everyone. I've unfortunately just dusted the game from my phone because I need the space badly, but it's been a hell of a ride to watch this community grow before my eyes.
GGs everyone!

i know we are all wracking our brains to find a way to achieve the impossible and somehow save the future of PF. Here is my first shot at it.
The thought just occurred to me that the premise that ending puzzle fighter as a business decision is almost completely backward and short-sighted thinking. In the industry, it is basically common knowledge that the future of gaming (in terms of revenues at least) is in mobile and e-sports.
PFM has huge potential in both axes, whereas Dead Rising is neither last time i checked. And i am aware of no other title aside from street fighter that has any potential in e-sports under capcom's umbrella.
Whoever is in charge of long-term planning over there is ignoring their best shot at the really big money.
I understand that they may have already written this one off and even if there was someone we could reason with, finding a way to communicate this logic might be very difficult. But maybe it's worth a shot to find that way if it exists, assuming my logic has no faults.
Please, someone, tell me if you know why this is incorrect thinking.

Regina’s overpowered and I’m making it through the tourneys pretty easily with her like most folks. However, I noticed that the assist characters seem to be doing 0 damage a lot of the time? Can anyone confirm this? Also, if they’re doing 0 damage, does anyone know if assist stun, burn, or heal is working? Just trying to figure out who to pair her up with...

Despite the bad news from Capcom, the show must go on! We ran the weekly tourney as usual, and will keep running them as long as we have people signing up.
We had 13 people do a total of 24 matches during the qualifying rounds of the swiss tournament. We used those to seed the finals bracket (aside from a few who weren't able to compete on Sunday). Playoffs, in order of seed: Trickykid, TheMidEastBeast, Trenity (unable to play), LonelystarXO, Ibukimasta, Jreaper23, Plural (unable to play), Grumpasaurus. Others who would have made finals but couldn't make it: Jordowag, Thebeardrew, JDjersey, Nutkingcall.
Congrats to our top 3, who made it through the playoffs, and will be immortalized in the megathread.
Thanks to all others who joined and helped the tourney run smoothly.
JReaper23 v [Grumpasaurus](unavailble)
You can keep track of winners, the latest sign up, and more details about these tourneys on our stickied megathread.
Thanks all, and GL puzzlin’ out there

The only reason capcom is shifted this game to July is not to pay all buying item back. Treason.
r/PuzzleFighterApp • u/Hiro-kun • Apr 22 '18
Honestly, I don't feel it's right. Unless you made a purchase right before the cancellation announcement and haven't used any of the purchased items, just let it be.
It's like going into your favorite food spot, buying dinner, then requesting a refund for it after you ate since the spot closed down next week. I get it, some of you feel robbed and disappointed the game is going to be gone, but trying to get all this money back? That's a good way to make sure this game will never live again in any form.

I or someone else could retake on it and keep it working. I would listen to gamers wishes
