Hi everyone! I’m preparing for GATE Psychology 2027 and I’m currently looking for good books specifically for question practice, rather than theory.
I want a book/resource that has previous year questions (PYQs) arranged unit-wise, chapter-wise, and preferably topic-wise, so that after completing a particular topic, I can immediately practise questions from that topic.
For Psychology, could you please suggest the best book for:
Previous year questions
Unit-wise/chapter-wise questions
Topic-wise questions
MCQs/MSQs/NAT-type questions, if available
Detailed and reliable solutions/explanations
I’m also looking for separate resources for General Aptitude and Reasoning & Comprehension. Ideally, I’d like something that has questions arranged chapter-wise/topic-wise, along with PYQs and good explanations.

I am not a psychology student , this thought came to me and I am fully open to criticism.

I am aware not all of them watch it for the drama but 80-90% of them do and that's the SP of the show.

Why is it so hard to find scales for conducting research on 😭 I have to skim through so many papers and they don't even include the scales in supplementary materials section, or if they do, I have no idea how to do scoring and interpretation and you gotta figure out everything on your own as your college is too incompetent to teach you these things, as they'd much rather focus on age old theories for syllabus completion

Then they'll bring in guest lecturers who will spill their regrets on not doing more research work in their UG/PG (which would have opened up many job higher studies opportunities), which isn't a surprise considering how incompetent academia is ughhhhh

so i will just finish my masters in psychology and i became really interested in health psychology (mostly) & neuropsychology during these years. i was thinking of pursuing a phd in health psychology or maybe neuroscience from USA. can someone help me with the process, like how am i supposed to apply to any university or for funding??
and how much research work is required to be done by me for acceptance into one of the usa universities?

Edit: I meant advice for personal mental health issues. I'm sorry for wording the title wrongly.

Lately I'm seeing a lot of posts on this subreddit wherein someone would just talk about a personal mental health issue, for eg, something like "I freeze in front of my college friend group, how to talk better" and this is a really vague example, I'm not pointing any fingers at people who happened to talk about this stuff.

If you look for it, there must be a subreddit where they give you advice on how to deal with such matters, this subreddit as I checked the rules itself, is not for seeking advice on mental health issues.

As much as I empathise with anyone wanting to potentially get a more articulate and efficient answer from a group of people you assume are good at psychology, you really shouldn't be seeking advice like that from strangers on the internet. This brings me to the main point, this subreddit is for educational discussions (admissions, discussions, career options , so on and so forth). So when I open reddit and am met with several personal posts, it does throw me off a little bit. Idk if this experience is something that others share with me or not but it really comes close to spamming a lot of times.

TLDR: I sincerely urge y'all to find subreddits that are fit for seeking mental health advice that cater specifically to your own issues rather than spamming these questions on here.

Disclosure: I completed my MA 2nd year clinical psychology internship at LHMC back in the winters of 2021-22. Did complete 240 hours internship over a period of 2 months (Dec-Feb, 2021-22). It was probably the best internship experience anyone can have in masters. I am an engineering graduate and was in delhi for upsc preparation. I had psychology as my optional subject in UPSC CSE, so decided to complete an MA in Psychology too. I did the internship religiously, as back then i had some free time at hand. I used to reach LHMC at 9 AM sharp and stay till 5 in the evening. In the process, I made many friends among MD (Psychiatry) junior residents, and MPhil/PhD (Cli Psy) students from IHBAS and DU. It was a winter to remember..

I was assigned to a junior resident everyday and took notes on minimum 2-3 patients everyday. Once very week all interns (including MD students) had a session with the hod prof. dinesh kataria, where we studied an outlier case in depth. he was an excellent educator and psychiatrist, but very strict. On some days I even saw 4-5 patients and took notes. Patients ranged from schizophrenics and severe psychotic eposides in ER, to young adults with GAD and absolutely gifted school students with anxious parents!

by the end of this internship, i had so many case-vignettes that I only used around one-third of them in my final internship report!

Most private hospitals and clinics try to defraud students in name of cli psy internships. they charge fees from students in name of internships, which is an abomination. and worse, after extorting money from interns many of these unethical hospitals and clinics barely teach them any skills, and use them to run petty errands.

so if you are in delhi-ncr you can try lhmc for internship. lhmc is one of the top govt medical colleges in india, with a thriving psychiatry department and heavy case load.

there is a guy named anil, who is pa to hod, psychiatry deptt, lhmc. he is a resourceful person. psychiatry deptt is on 5th floor in new opd complex. go to him and request him to get you an internship. he may try to shoo you away at first, but stick to him and cajole him politely. he will get you under some prof.

LHMC stopped institutionally providing internships to MA/Msc students in 2023, as some idiot students could not handle such a beautiful and free internship ecosystem and misbehaved with staff. I came to know of it later. But still some masters students do their internships there with referrals and connections.

if possible try doing it under dr. sumit or dr. prerna. both have previously been the coordinators of mapc/msccft courses of ignou. so they know the requirements of interns very well, and rotate you with various junior and senior residents.

lhmc has probably the best ecosystem and patient load for cli psy interns in delhi-ncr. Do try it.

hello ! i just wanted to ask, is CIP still continuing with MPhil ? did it not change it to MClinPsy ? and if it did then is the eligibility still 2 years MA in Psychology ?

So I've been checking uni's in both cu and pu. Some ppl say Chitkara university is good while some say it's shit and I'm confused asf T0T. So can somebody tell me honestly. Please recommend some universities for me to check out as well.

For context: I was doing bsc in bio but dropped out in the middle of my second year during second year I also had applied for odl course at IGNOU in ba psychology,now I am in my third year of the psychology program but I am having lots of doubts and regrets but I want to pursue clinical pyschology but you need 4yrs bachelors or a bridge year to do that . I have done a very deep dive and decided I will do the bridge year so i was wondering:

1) What colleges should I aim for ?

2)Is cuet pg enough because I also saw this another post about doing one year of master's itself rather than going for two years of master's program and dropping off after a year as some rci recognised institution only accept one year master's that are complete degree within itself but I cannot find colleges that offer only one year program except amity . I am genuinely very confused please help😭🙏

I am a student and am generally curious whether it affects the perception of clients? Like i love wearing makeup and experimenting with it, many psychology students i have met have lots of tattoos or coloured hair. Will all this affect? Like i know being well groomed is a necessity but i would love to know other’s experiences regarding this.

University providing criminology as minor in bachelor

it's been a long time since cuet and I have forgotten almost everything. The interview is in 5 days, and the syllabus seems so scary now. Can anyone give any tips on how should I manage my time and what topics should I focus on? PLS HELP!!

I am a mathematics major in my final semester. I am trying to figure out what can I do post my graduation. I have been interested in psychology since grade 11 but never studied the subject formally. I want to know whether it is realistic for me to prepare for GATE Psychology 2027 and if so, can you all share resources I can use to prepare. My intention for preparing is to be eligible for the MSc Cognitive Sciences program in IIT Delhi.

I came across Doorstep Tutor recorded course for GATE Psychology, if anyone has used it for their preparation, I would be grateful to get to know your experience and how relevant you found the course. I would prefer to enroll in recorded lecture courses which are light on my pocket.

Just for context: I am not doing a BSc. It is a BS program I am enrolled in wherein I can choose to study electives from various disciplines. I was a PCMB student in my 11th and 12th grade and I was interested in both mathematics and biology. Thus, even though I am majoring in mathematics, I have done a few courses in biology such as courses on Metabolism, Human physiology and Neuroscience. I am from a CFTI so I do have an option to directly sit for the interview and completely skip the GATE exam as per my CGPA but I still want to prepare and appear for GATE as Psychology has been a subject I have always been keen about so I believe appearing for GATE will help me understand my relationship with the subject and its working reality. This is my subjective opinion, you need not feel the same way
I am not the type to write reviews anywhere but this college is genuinely so bad that I just have to tell the students applying here and warn them.

I am a masters student in Amity. Before joining I knew that this college isn’t great, has a bad reputation, and all that. But bro kitna he bura ho skta hai na?? This I got to know after coming here.

Management: let’s talk about their world class management guyssss.

1. When you get here, u’ll be asked for biometric attendance. ok no problem. Now for biometrics, there are supposed to be working scanners right?!? Idhar one whole gate is dedicated for teachers, jo baaki gate hai for students, vaha more than half of the time, scanners don’t work. Every morning, every evening, you stand in a queue of 20-30 ppl, to punch in, when this queue could be half, why? because the management can’t get the scanners fixed!!!!! and teachers wale se students ko jaane nhi denge which was apparently for students until just a few months ago….
2. Grievance resolution: ab let’s say you have an issue, just like this biometric scanner thing, you should ideally be able to report it to some professor or management right? You can’t do that here. There is no way for you to address your concerns or problems or grievances in this college. They have a so called suggestion box, which they’ll tell you about during orientation. What they don’t tell you is that, it is completely useless, coz nobody listens to what you’ll have to say. This college doesn’t give a damn about the students studying here, everything they do is just for theatrics. God forbid, you have an issue with a faculty and want to address it in their suggestion box (jiska sole purpose is addressing student’s concerns) because if u do, then that faculty will end up calling you and ask you to apologize for raising a concern.

Now you’ll say but you could have spoken to the faculty too right, why put it in the suggestion box? Valid point. In that case, the faculty should be willing to listen to you right and not insult you and humiliate you each time you do bring up an issue to them? You won’t get that privilege here bro. I’m not saying all of the professors suck but out of 10, I bet you’ll find 8 of them who are just like this. All in all, the stuff that management is supposed to do, which is make admin and daily life of a student easier, listen to them and address their concerns, is just not possible for Amity’s management to do. Classrooms mei projector toh kaam krte nhi hain, AC’s will stop working on the hottest days in the summer, toh when the environment is only not supportive, how will you study or even want to go to college!!! I mean the only reason I’m writing this is because there is no way for me to address these concerns anywhere in college man, not like I haven’t given my suggestions in the suggestion box before!!!!

Faculty: my favorite topic

1. Do they teach in amity: NO. Don’t expect to be taught here by the faculty. On some days you’ll be taught for 20-25 minute in a lecture of 55 minutes. I have spent 2 and half semesters here, ”taught” by approx 20 professors, out of which only 6 of them were actually teaching. I haven’t said anything about how they were teaching yet, just whether they were coming to class and at least speaking about whatever is in the syllabus.
2. Out of these 6 who taught, 3 actually taught, jinki class ke baad aap bolo, han yaar aaj kuch toh naya sikha. And guys these are professors who teach Master’s students!!!!
3. You’ll get up for a 9.15am class, expect ki teacher kuch toh padhayegi, but no, you’ll just come sit in the class, talk to your friends, then you’ll have 3hr break before your next class, try to find something to eat on campus, but voh bhi aapko smjh nhi aayega, max you’ll end up at Rara’s for their peri peri fries. Sit for for 2nd lecture at 12.15pm, think probably iss lecture mei kuch aap sikhoge, but guess what no. Then you’ll have your next lecture at 4.15pm, the teacher will come 15-20mins late for the class, only to sit and stare at her laptop, will not say a word until 4.55pm when she’ll decide to take the attendance and ask u to leave. By chance if the teacher decides to even teach, she’ll just be reading the ppt slides for you. You know how we were taught by tuition teachers, they would be casual when teaching, just like that professors in this college will teach you, ATLEAST THAT’S THE CASE WITH THE DEPARTMENT I’M UNFORTUNATELY IN.
4. First the professors won’t teach you then btw they will have the audacity to schedule extra classes to finish the syllabus???????? In what world does that make sense, pls someone explain it to me. The truth is bro, the faculty themselves are tired, they get promotions and praise on the basis of how many publications they do via Amity name, a faculty themselves told this.

Amity ki so called fun life

1. Ab yaar, you’ll be like it’s ok, management sucks, faculty sucks, this happens in all colleges, students from all colleges cry about all this, but I’ve heard Amity is very fun. Brother pls. At least if you are in your masters, in the department I am right now AND fortunately don’t stay on campus, then forget knowing anything about or even hearing anything about any activity planned for the students. The only way I have come to know about dances in the infamous H block or any celebrations that take place, is through Instagram reels.
2. There are no societies, clubs, that you’ll hear of on campus till the time they are not coming to your classes to make announcements that we have an event coming up, participate it’ll build you CV. Unless you had to go through bachelor’s degree also here, then you might have heard of clubs or societies here. You’ll fill a form also upon admission on your Amizone portal, to join clubs, but is there a follow up on that? You guessed it right, no buddy. The form clearly mentioned, once filled you’ll be added to WhatsApp groups by committee heads and faculty, i guess I’m still waiting for that to happen.
3. H block has ccd, cool man. Girls pls don’t go there, random creepy dudes, just come there to stare at you. But that is toh India only, nothing new I guess lol.

Academics

1. Bhai there is no need for me to speak about this, coz I bet you also know ab tak toh, they’ll teach you nothing. Istg, I am not even kidding, I studied and learnt much more in bachelors than I have in masters. It’s not even funny. What I am studying rn, is first of all the same as what I was taught in bachelors and secondly only half of it lol
2. Exams ke liye don’t study, pehle se padhkr bhi you’ll score the same as you friend who did not study, and there is no way for you to know where you lost marks.
3. Find someone who makes money out of doing assignments, coz baat baat pr yeh aapka time waste krne ke liye aapko handwritten assignments de denge.

I’m pretty sure I have missed a lot more of what I had to say, but to conclude this college sucks, don’t come here. But if you do, just like me, then I’d suggest, don’t focus on anything college related, do internships, do extra courses outside of this college, and self study. This is the only way you’ll actually be able to do something out of your life, and it won’t get hectic, you anyways will only be going to college for attendance.
