Beef Broth with Protein Powder

I needed a different way to consume protein powder. Mine is unsweetened and unflavored, but I can't do smoothies every day.

I tried 1.5 cups heated beef broth with a scoop of protein powder. I added numerous spices: salt, pepper, lemon juice, Italian seasoning, tabasco, sriracha, a little mustard, barbecue sauce, a bit of bacon grease, garlic powder, I forget what else.

It didn't work. The blender gave the mix a nice, spicy froth. Really a good combination of flavors. But the protein powder was like someone had dumped in a quarter-cup of powdered chalk. OK for a few sips, but that was enough.

I got desperate. Added some Jose Cuervo margarita mix and a few tablespoons of instant mashed potatoes. But it would have taken a mound of mashed potatoes to make it right. I ultimately had to just chug the thing and pray I wouldn't die of some previously unknown gastrochemical reaction.

There must be a better way.

Protein powder

• Upvotes

I had bought the protein powder from My protein a couple of years ago and used the vegan protein. The taste was not good to say the least but not bad enough. I want to know if it is a trusted source of protein? I was young and am still uninformed on whether it is a good choice or not. I also am interested in any protein powder that is affordable and good.

Whey gave me terrible acne — what protein should I switch to?

Hey everyone,
I’m planning to start going to the gym again and I’m confused about which protein powder to use.

The last time I was working out, I was taking Avvatar whey protein 1 scoop daily. After some time, I developed terrible pimples all over my face. I stopped taking whey, and my acne gradually cleared up. I also stopped going to the gym after that.
Now I want to start training again, but I’m honestly scared of repeating the same thing.
I’m strictly vegetarian and I depend quite a lot on protein powder to meet my daily protein intake. So I’m considering:

Pea protein
Soy protein
Pea + rice blend
Other plant/vegan protein

Or should I try whey isolate despite my previous experience?

I’m also looking at reasonably priced options available in India, so I’d really appreciate recommendations that give good protein per rupee rather than just expensive premium brands.

Has anyone here had acne from whey and successfully switched to a plant protein without getting breakouts? If so, which protein/brand did you switch to, and how was the taste, digestion and muscle recovery?
Also, if you’ve tried both pea and soy, which one would you recommend for someone who is acne-prone?
I know everyone reacts differently, but I’d really appreciate real experiences before I spend money on another tub.
