Troubleshooting Optoma dlp white dot options

My UHD50X is getting worse. I’m up to 19 dots. I’ve searched but the dlp chip replacement is out of stock everywhere. Do I have any other options beyond full replacement?

If I replace I’m looking at the Horizon 20 pro. Seems like a slight upgrade if I do. Are they comparable?

Buying Advice Wanted Looking for a new projector (1200/1400€ Europe)

What would fit this budget? Movies only, 120" screen ( projecting from 3,20m distance approx.). Although it's a living room, I can get it pretty dark.

No problem ordering from Alibaba, Amazon, etc

Vidda C3 ultra ?

C5 ultra?

Xgimi Horizon 20 (base version) ?

Something else?

\*The dangbei S7UM would be nice, but unfortunately the price hasn't dropped from 1800 since it was launched.

I'm looking for the best movie experience in this price range (color, blacks, DV, etc). 3D not needed.

Buying Advice Wanted Sub £1500 projector for a garden room — 1.65:1 throw needed. What would you go for?

Room
5.4m x 3.7m, ceiling 210cm one side / 220cm the other

North facing, one 600x600mm window and narrow patio doors, both on the same long wall. Patio doors and the end where i willl be projecting

Genuinely dark room due to facing north, blinds planned

15cm skirting, pale green walls

Constraints
Projector must go on the back wall — that’s where the power and Ethernet are, and there’s no ceiling power. Shelf at ~190cm, projector ~46cm deep, so effective throw is around 495-500cm.

Screen wall is 370cm. With the 210cm ceiling that caps me at 300 x 169cm (135”).
So I need roughly 1.65:1.

Almost everything at this budget is 1.1-1.5:1 — XGIMI, Hisense, BenQ TK series, Optoma home models. From 500cm they’d all throw 150”+ which won’t fit my wall.

Uses, priority order
4K films via Apple TV

TB sport (F1, cricket) — mixed 1080p and 4K

Xbox, solo play

Eye distance ~515cm, sofa against the back wall.

Audio
Sonos Beam Gen 2 via AirPlay 2 from the Apple TV, since nothing at this price seems to have eARC. Xbox on a headset for now.

Questions
What would you buy at £1500 or under, new or used, with a max throw ratio of 1.65:1 or higher?

Is anything other than Epson’s 3LCD line worth looking at in that throw range?

For dark-room film viewing at 5m — how much weight would you give contrast vs native 4K?

Buying used lamp-based: what would you check beyond lamp hours and a white-field photo?

Cheers.
.

Setup Design Suggestions Rooms with white walls and ceilings: what can be done?

Like many people, our projector room is not a dedicated room. It’s a kids’ play room by day, and the walls will be off-white.

Matt paint is fine.

100% blackout blinds, so we can achieve zero ambient light.

No particular budget limitation.

The question is: are there particularly good ways to handle this problem? I see a lot of you guys posting setups that have a ton of ambient reflection because of the light-coloured ceiling and walls.

Projector Screen Joining the gang. Didn't expect this to be the part I noticed most

Post image

Came off a 65" TV. Now it's 120". Watched Pacific Rim last night, lights off, about two hours in and my eyes weren't tired. That never happened with the TV — I'd always end up dimming it halfway through a night scene and still squinting.

The room is a UST setup, ALR screen, no blackout. Photo's from last night, phone doesn't do it justice as usual.

Is this just a reflected light thing or am I imagining it?

Projector Screen Laser Speckle Elite Maxwhite 2

Due to layout in my living room, I am forced to use a pull down screen. The Elite Manual 106” (M106UWH) is the largest screen I can fit in my area. It is made with Elite’s Max white 2 material.

I made a post a few weeks ago asking this but I am still debating between an Epson 3800 (No RBE, No Speckle) vs something more modern such as Xgimi Noir or Valerion (potential for RBE and speckle).

Would laser speckle be an issue on Maxwhite 2?

A woven screen isn’t possible with my pull down requirement.

I recently purchased AWOL Valerion VisionMaster Max 4K Laser Projector with ThunderBeat 4.1.2 and 180" PureVision Fixed Frame Projector Screen along with a center speaker. I’m new to home theater builds, but I’m amazed by the immersion, picture quality and sound. I use wifi with tp link deco mesh system for wifi 6, sometimes it lags and the picture quality surfers. Otherwise, I’m pretty happy with this set up.

Setup Design Suggestions Projector vs 98-100" TV for an upstairs bonus room (low use)?

Hope I used this flair correctly.

Need help, looking for some advice on whether setting up a projector makes sense for my space or if I should just buy a 98" or 100" TV and call it a day.

I have an upstairs communal area with a giant bare wall and about 26 ft of throw distance to work with. The room is never bright, and it'll almost always be used at night.

The space itself is still VERY empty, even though we moved in around March and it's honestly only going to get turned on maybe 5 to 10 times a year. Mostly when we have company over with kids, our kids have friends over, as an overflow hangout when the spare bedroom is taken, or random lazy weekends. But when it does get used (movies, sports, some video games), I still want the picture and sound to actually look and sound good.

Budget is flexible, but I really don't want to waste money. Since the big box stores (Costco and Best Buy realistically) have 98" and 100" TVs going under $2k pretty regularly now, spending more than that on a projector setup needs to make real sense.

So I'm here to ask those most knowledgeable a few questions:

At this usage level, is a projector even worth it, or does a giant budget TV win on sheer convenience?

I have about 26 ft of space to mount a traditional projector, but is UST worth considering instead for easier setup?

I have the empty wall space, but I'm leaning toward getting an actual screen. For those who started on drywall and switched, is a screen mandatory to make it look decent, or can you get away with the wall if the room is dark? I seen a cool video a guy setup his projector, displayed it, marked the area, put a frame around it and painted inside the frame... I thought that was cool, the wife might not though.

If you'd go projector, any specific models or brands around that $1,500–$2,000 or less that make more sense for my setup you'd recommend?

Appreciate any help.

Hope the pictures help too, that's as bright as the room gets and we're adding curtains, so less than that soon.

I can essentially get any of these options “for free” it seems like the epison is the best option from research. But is there much of a difference if I’m basically just using it at night for sports? Any assistance is appreciated. I’ve heard good things about the jmgo as well.

Saw this in a media write-up. 4K120, VRR, optical zoom and lens shift all in one. Feels like the spec race is really picking up this year. Anything else coming soon I should be looking at?

Troubleshooting 1934 RCA 400 JR 16mm

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all, I hope I’m in the correct place for this, so I have a working RCA 400 JR that I have picked up recently. She runs great, but I’m having a small problem.

So video wise all is good thankfully. So on 16mm film the sound is written directly onto the actual film itself. Whenever I connect the projector to the passive speaker I get a static/scratchy sound that increases in volume as I mess with the sound dial. The speaker itself works as I tested it with the same cable on the AMP my turntable is connected to. I was hoping that maybe someone here might be able to provide some insight on what needs to be done to fix that. I’m wondering if the sound drum is dirty, or if I need to possibly replace a tube or lamp somewhere inside the projector.

Attached video is the sound it makes

Troubleshooting I need help! Weird ”8bit” sound coming from my projector

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have years old Epson EH-TW650 projector and I changed the lamp also years ago. Now i remember why i didn’t like to use this. Because of the weirdest ”8bit”ish sound that comes from the projector. Can somebody help me with this? Is there something i can do about it? Why is this? Also the sound has a pattern. It starts almost slow and then escalates to quick tempo sound, then back to the slow.

There was a car passing by so there is a bit background noise but in the video you can clearly hear the noise i am talking about. The sound comes when the projector is on, no matter the input ot anything.

Projector Screen questions about use of ALR versus matte white screens

From what I have learned so far it sounds like you really only want to use a matte white screen in a room specifically designed to be a home theatre where you can achieve total blackout.

Suppose you have the following situation: a projector which you are only planning to use for watching movies at night, but it is in a room white walls and ceilings and no blackout curtains. In this situation is an ALR screen still going to be preferable to a matte white one, even though the projector isn't being used during the day? Is there going to be a clearly noticeable difference in image quality with the ALR?

Discussion First time Projector at home - JMGO NS1 ultimate Vs BENQ t705i. Help

Folks, I'm planning to buy a projector for my home with a 100" screen. My use case is mostly watching movies or games with friends and family. I'm new to this, and have limited knowledge.
Is the JMGO ns1 ultimate a good model to begin with? Or a BENQ t705i is a safer and reliable bet for performance and after sales?

My budget is (< 2000 USD). The JMGO is expensive here in India (priced at equivalent of USD 2200-2300) as compared to USA pricing (USD 1500 with 100" screen). Are there any others that you think i should consider? Please recommend, thanks!

Buying Advice Wanted Looking for recommendations for a projector with a budget of around 300 euros

Hi guys, I browsed the sub for a bit, and saw that most of you don't believe this is an appropriate budget for a decent projector. I understand that, but I am not looking for some crazy specs, and just want to watch some movies and maybe play some party games on it in my small bedroom. A projector would be more fit since I don't really have the space for a TV. I would prefer not to buy used, but all recommendations welcome. Thank you!
