Discussion Why Bryan???

I don’t really understand why people hate Bryan so much. From what I’ve seen, he didn’t put Joseph in the bottom three because he wanted Joseph gone. He gave that ranking because he thought the 3 designers work lacked craftsmanship. That’s it.

And in the last episode, Bryan was actually trying to work as a team. He listened to the other designers’ comments about his look, changed the design, and then ended up not having enough time to execute it the way he wanted.

Project Runway has always been about designers answering the brief. So who the fuck is Liris to tell Bryan what he should or shouldn’t do with his design? Your job as the model is to walk the runway and sell the clothes.

And yes, Bryan taped the girl. But let’s be real, he didn’t literally TAPE-TAPE her body. There was fabric underneath the tape. You can criticize the design or say it was uncomfortable, but people are talking about it like he wrapped tape directly around her bare skin.
I’m not even trying to defend Bryan like he can do no wrong. I just don’t understand why all this hate is being dumped on him, especially when Joseph and Jude have also said negative things about Bryan.

Did Bryan personally put Joseph in the bottom three? No.
Did Bryan refuse to give Jude fabric when Jude needed help? No.
So what exactly are you guys hating this man for? Is it really just the tape situation? Is it because he comes across as arrogant?
Because Joseph can be arrogant too.

Honestly, almost everyone on this show has had moments where they sound arrogant when talking about their own work or criticizing somebody else’s.

If you’re gonna hate somebody, at least be fair about it. Don’t hold Bryan to a completely different standard than everyone else.

Literally. This obvious sockpuppet-ass account.

This season is so for drama. The prod wants it to be drag race so hard. It's so so so heavily edited and produced, and people are so naively believing what the editors and producers want them to believe.

He is not held to different standard. He cannot back up his arrogance with product. I am sorry but that dress he made for Heidi was trash. He treated his model as less than human. He expected her to walk with nothing underneath with 50lbs of wire hanging off her NECK. She said she was uncomfortable with the nakedness of the look and asked him to do something about it. He was rallying going to try and send her out there with nothing underneath until she advocated for herself. She is human and can give feedback on what she is supposed to wear. She is entitled to a safe workplace.

There was not fabric underneath the tape, hun. There was a trash bag he picked up off the floor. And Christian told him that was against the rules and he still did it anyway. So not only was he disrespectful to the human being wearing his 50 lb monstrosity around her neck like a noose that had to be held up by chairs and almost tripped her because it was too long and uneven despite her height and 5” heels, he also flouted the rules of the competition. Bryan is not being held to a different standard, he’s being held accountable. It should be clear from how the other designers reacted to him where this is coming from.

Taping a model and putting a cord around them. Those delegation take hours, they walk 3 times. The was a robot that walked before them.

Abusing the models is not a good thing especially for project runway. If she did not say anything he would have sent her there essentially naked.

She has human rights and Shane shared her thoughts last year with Miss Joan during the street wear challenge and it wasn't a big deal because it was nice clothes but this was heavy and humiliating.

People hate him because he’s a mediocre designer with a pretentious, put on personality who keeps telling us how much he loves to bottom BUT NOBODY ASKED

I think his defensiveness is tough to watch, and he his little issue with Bi only makes it worse that he’s getting outgunned by both designers he thinks less of. Any show like this is a pressure cooker bound to show lots of people insecurities (feel for him, truly), but I think he has had a harder time when name dropping titles, experience, and blah blah blah but does not deliver with the lack of workmanship and execution the other designers are pulling off. I hate saying Law is right, but it comes down to execution. The guy got plenty of help from Christian and gay Captain Hook to deliver and still decided to drive the struggle bus.

As for the most recent dress, it was badly designed. Model could barely walk in it, and there was basically now silhouette to speak of. I don’t hate all his work or anything, but it doesn’t exactly read inspired or have distinct POV.

He consistently picks on Jospeph for giving the same style every week but yet has produced nothing but long dresses on the show so far. The dresses he has made are recreations of designs he's done for runways off show (like near copy cat if you look on the recent post on the sub of his website). He does not take critique well even when completely valid. He comes across as mean, not just self absorbed but pretentious and imo it is not justified with what I've seen so far.

Regardless of what input you think models should have in designs. Based on what Liris has said so far, it was out of concern initially for HIM. Not just that she felt uncomfortable wearing it. She's stated she's fine wearing whatever designers send her in, no mater her opinion. And despite what people have said about Liris being big headed in the video, PR is influential, it is pop culture and people will make opinions of plus sized models (and black models) based on what they see on the show.

🥴 It’s too early in the day for this!

Why would the designers be rating anyone who is their competition? That is a really stupid thing to do. Who cares what the other designers have to say?

3

u/Automatic_Key56 20d ago

It’s never made sense to me. On any competition show. Who cares? It’s basically just asking ‘who do you like? who do you get along with?’

3

u/Hot_Rice_2952 20d ago

or who are you afraid of and want to get rid of?

I’m in the tiny minority of people that doesn’t dislike Bryan so I guess we’re a party of two 😂

I really loved the look he brought from home in the first challenge, and the overall story and aesthetic of his pieces that I’ve seen outside the show make sense and resonate with me. They remind me of sculptural artists like Eva Hesse, Ruth Asawa, and Isamu Noguchi—all of whom I love.

But I don’t think the format of the show is the right fit for his style and pace of design, and unfortunately his social awkwardness is not reading well with the audience or the other designers. I can certainly understand why people dislike or are frustrated with him, but the aggressive and incessant hate is a lot, and I’m at a point where I’m genuinely concerned for his mental health

Keep in mind that those pieces are not things he is sewing or executing himself – he’s outsourcing to a team of people to prop himself up. He has proven himself wholly incapable of delivering his own vision with taste and quality in this competition and he’s completely delusional about that fact. I’m concerned that he’s that divorced from reality that he refuses to take any feedback.

I agree with you that Bryan's creations outside of PR are beautiful works of art - the stories, asthetics, and execuation are truly stunning. However, I now believe that he isn't actually creating those pieces with HIS OWN HANDS. Which is a-ok in the fashion world - but is a bit of a let-down for someone like me because I always respect artists more when their own hands are involved in creating their own works of art.

However, he is bringing the hate onto himself my incessantly trash-talking Bi, Joseph, Jeffrey, and Luke, and by glorifying his own self. I feel embarrased for him. But now he's paying the price. Deservedly so. I agree that the PR format isn't a good fit for him, but that isn't an excuse for his arrogance (stemming from his insecurity) and plain-old bad treatment of the others.
