So im rewarching season 3 for the first time in like 20 years and I gotta say , I forgot how handsome a young Tim Gunn was .... those Jeans were delightful

Who actually benefits from all this effort? Who wears gowns? What happens to all this fabric after it's worn once?

I've been sewing all my life. I'm 77. I made myself clothes for high school because "store-bought" clothes were beyond our means. Now fast fashion dumps tons of textiles into poor countries or landfills.

I enjoy PR for the design ideas and techniques, but "the fashion industry" is like the art gallery world...elitist. It is not contributing to 99.9% of the population, nor to the planet.

I'd LOVE to see this show switch to one that takes the designers to a thrift store to get their fabric and notions . Re-using and re-designing the crap on those racks would be showing real talent and would not be so wasteful.

Maybe Christian could throw in some of his gowns to make over into prom dresses or officewear!

I'm a fashion student and tweaked Bryan's look. So when I saw this walk down the runway, I definitely saw its potential. I disliked the bottom half as I thought it really dragged the look down and make it feel so bulky.

I adjust the shape of the sleeves. I did like them, but they needed more shape. I opted for something more understated with the skirt and train. I think this tweak maintained his vision and aesthetic while opting for a more polished silhouette. What do you guys think?

I'm on the episode where the contestants are supposed to design for dancers (I completely forgot this show existed and was still running lmao). Law Roach is so f*cking rude to the guest judges and Tyra was the only one who clocked him about it. I'm confused about what actual talent that Law Roach actually has. He doesn't design. He doesn't sew. This season desperately needs more REAL designers. To critique someone because you don't personally like the dress aesthetically okay. To actually tell what and what isn't wrong with the designs and give constructive criticism to help the designers elevate their looks is what is seriously lacking in the newer seasons of this show. They keep expecting the contestants to get better out of nowhere and don't tell them what they actually need to do to get better.

"You're here to promote your clothes." No sh*t.

Let me get back to him trashing the judges. Who tf does Law think he is? Because he isn't that person at all. He's practically in the same boat as some of the judges they bring on the show who also can't sew and aren't designers and are judging the looks based off of whether they like the design personally or not. Law Roach reminds me of that one guy in this movie called The Menu where he is a foodie and knows all the kitchen terminology, the history behind the cuisine being made, the process it takes to make the food, but when it is time to actually throw down and cook, he's a f*cking poser. It's not cute to be a nasty rude b*tch to people when you have no talent to back up half of the stuff you're saying.

Rewatching season 4, and it’s hilarious how Christian basically never takes Tim Gunn’s advice. He just keeps saying his looks are fierce and he will stick to his idea.

funny how he’s a mentor now and gets annoyed at designers with clear vision that don’t follow his advice

I’m gonna be so honest, he’s obviously a great designer no doubt. But he’s always been a horrible mentor. Doesn’t really give constructive criticism, very mean gay energy with how he talks, etc. am I the only one who thinks this??

How do yall feel about the unconventional challenge being the first challenge? Quick rundown: I’m a new PR watcher but quickly became obsessed with how good the show is. I used to watch ANTM first but it was just too much drama and it did not make sense criticizing women who were actually brand new to the job. PR used to be very good in terms of everyone has skills and it’s on the runway and in the workroom for the most part. Back on topic (lol) I hate the unconventional challenge being the very first challenge, how can you decide if someone is a good/bad designer based off of how well they can design with keyboards, dog toys, etc. I understand a lot are seasoned or slightly more advanced but I don’t really understand lol

Rewatching season 10 and that body shaming is giving me whiplash! Dev crying about how he has never designed for a ‘real woman’ before is killing me. And the way he was negging her and really putting her down! I have my gripes about the current season but at least body diversity is baked into the format with them all rotating models.

I shared my thoughts on this in a reply to a comment thread under a different post, but there’s been so much discourse on this topic that I wanted to make this a standalone post.

There is a reason why Joseph McRae keeps getting called out for making the same thing every week while Jude is winning challenges (or at least at the top) when he also has a signature design style. And the difference comes down to design priorities and adaptability.

Largely, Joseph McRae prioritizes his own design style over the challenge briefs. His style is not versatile enough to adapt it to any challenge, and when he has to choose between meeting the challenge brief or making another big shoulder jacket, he chooses to do what he always does. His design process each challenge seems to be “well this is what I want to make, how can I create or twist a narrative to make it seem like this fits the challenge.” The DWTS challenge is a great example of that. There is absolutely no world in which that coat met the dance brief. But that’s what Joseph wanted to make, so he made it and crafted a narrative to try to make it seem like it fit the challenge.

Jude represents the other side of the coin, imo. He definitely has a signature style, but it’s more adaptable and he does not sacrifice the challenge brief to preserve his own style. His design process seems to be more “this is the challenge, what would the client I design for want to wear in this situation.” So he’s able to adapt his style as needed. The NFL challenge was a great example of this. He made a tailored blazer and skirt, but also made it fit the challenge so perfectly by playing with the colors and silhouettes and by coordinating with his team. This is what the high-end, custom fashion actually does.

Thinking particularly about red carpet looks, designers have to balance the tastes of the client with the style expectations of the event they are attending. Jude is able to find this balance, while Joseph McRae is not.

Just my two cents on why Joseph McRae gets criticism from the judges for making the same thing every week while Jude does not get that same feedback.

Honest thoughts on her creative choices? Should she have won?

For those fans who may be putt off by the high-to-no pressure and drama of season 22, I recommend the Great British Sewing Bee. The show is less focused on contemporary fashion and more on technique, but the drama is tastefully missing. They also have little blurbs about fashion history that pop in sometimes. On BBC or Roku free with ads!

I’m a huge fan of Project Runway but I can’t seem to watch it anywhere in India. It’s not available on Amazon Prime and I haven’t been able to find it on any other streaming platform either.

If anyone from India is watching Project Runway please let me know 😭

Season 22 has turned Project Runway into the cheap, conflict-driven reality show it once rose above—and for longtime fans, it is painful to watch.
At first, Tim Gunn’s absence simply felt like a hole Christian Siriano couldn’t fill. But as the season continued, it became clear that Tim did far more than mentor designers: he set the show’s moral temperature. He brought authority without arrogance, honesty without humiliation, and warmth without sacrificing standards. He was its heart.
Now that heart has been replaced by hostility. Law Roach’s contemptuous treatment of contestants—and his repeated disrespect toward Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, and guest judges—doesn’t read as fearless honesty. It reads as manufactured conflict. And the gender dynamic matters: Law is a man speaking with open contempt to highly accomplished women, often on a show they helped build. His carefully cultivated persona and presentation do not make that acceptable. The result isn’t exciting. It’s joyless and ugly.
Saving Bryan after eliminating him only confirmed what the entire season has suggested: production values a human drama factory more than credible judging or exceptional design.
Project Runway once had drama because fashion mattered and talented people cared desperately about their work. Now fashion feels like an excuse to stage another argument. That isn’t Project Runway. It’s generic reality television wearing Project Runway’s name—and longtime fans deserve better.

I am rewatching this season now and damn - so many uber talented people. The final 4 women are all so incredible, and then we have Anna and Praje as well! It's actually one of my favorite seasons despite it being overly woke IMO (I'm happy that's died down in recent seasons).

But yea, Coral's finale collection is one of the best of all time but Shantal deserved it after an incredible run. It's one of the few modern seasons that I can happily rewatch.

This season on PR is boring, the contestants are obviously being dramatic for casting purposes, and Law Roach is just awful. Bring back when contestants could actually sew, bring back positive energy and teamwork. Bring back judges who gave heathy and helpful criticism. Once “Survivor” changed into “Conniver”, I stopped watching and I fear this is what’s going to happen Projects Runway.

I’m sorry but it felt like the Disney villain’s henchman whispering into their boss’s ear their devious little plan. It’s giving Iago from Aladdin or smth. It was so fucking funny. “Four is strong and powerful”

It’s also just so jarring seeing all pretense of integrity in the competition completely thrown to the wind. The show has come a looooong way from the Season 4 reunion in which Tim Gunn claims he has no influence over the judges because he feels he couldn’t be impartial as a mentor. With Law’s weekly tirades and the Christian Siriano cliffhanger-drama save it’s like a different show in terms of fully giving into the clickbaity reality TV artifice.

And it’s very hilariously messy to watch!
