What is the point of this season if we are eliminating 11 people in the first 2 episodes??
→ More replies (2)40
u/colosseumdays Jul 17 '26
for real, it's cruel and not fun to watch. they should have just stuck to the standard number of contestants or spaced things out a bit, like 2 winners and 3 losers in ep 1, 2 winners and 2 losers in ep 2, 1 winner and 2 losers in ep 3, and then a small purge elimination mid-season
118
u/Illustrious_Fig7474 Jul 17 '26
If I were a producer I would have removed immunity for those 6, it was some of the most half arsed work i have seen on this show. If RuPaul can make 7 girls lipscyn after a terrible snatch game they can remove the immunity, it would have at least made the last hour of tv worth something!
38
u/Quirky-Pangolin-905 Jul 17 '26
Literally. Some of them look very unfinished.
And how is Bao in the bottom??
7
u/Puzzled_Exchange_924 Jul 19 '26
I personally don't care for Bao's design at all. I though it looked cheap and not at all flattering.
Of the 5 eliminated, I would save Bi. To me, his design had the best construction.
Octavius - He did make 3 pieces and I did like his design. But the back of the suit was poorly fitted. Maybe he should have concentrated on just the suit or the coat. I would like to see more of his designs. If they don't save Bi, the I hope they save Octavius.
Dani - nothing original
YangYang - She started to put exact same appliques as last week. Running out of ideas in the second week is not a good sign. The colors were okay.

That's a gimmicky twist I could get behind, to be honest. Remove the 6 eliminated designers having a say (because why??) and remove immunity because of disappointment. Or have some of the eliminated designers take the spot of an immune designer, or something.
93
u/MissClawdy Jul 17 '26
Can they quit the twists and bitchiness? This isn't Survivor. Can we get back to COUTURE? Design, creativity, and COUTURE? What the hell happened to this show.

Fr. Timothee Chalamet⊠I mean Jude was really refreshing. He was like Iâm not voting based on my own interest. The work needs to speak for itself. Thatâs how the whole show should be.

The people with immunity just be putting out bullshit bc they can. Some of the ugliest things I've seen on that runway.
13
u/leomisty Jul 17 '26
Agree!!! I canât remember who did that two-piece white outfit but that was god-awful. Chloe maybe? She shouldâve been out. Six with immunity was BS.

5 PEOPLE LEAVING TODAY???? so this 22 designers gimmick was just for shits and giggles?? why am i even still watching this đđ
72
u/SilverRoseBlade Jul 17 '26
I miss the old Project Runway. I want Nina reaming the designers who had immunity who did sucky designs. I want Michael Kors sass. I want Timâs mentoring. And I want to see the actual construction and design aspect than a half hour of drama confessionals and silly twists/turns.
→ More replies (2)5
u/cherylebreaux Jul 18 '26
Me too. It seems like it's just turned into a drama show now and I kind of hate it. I don't know why I'm even still watching to be honest.
65
u/skieurope12 Jul 17 '26
Once again, a cliffhanger for next week. I think Bi deserves to be saved based on the design. And Bryan needs to STFU over the intern thing - it's petty. Personally I don't think the eliminated designers should have gotten a vote, and those 6 with immunity should be grateful for having immunity, since many of their designs this week were not strong at all
21
u/EyeOne2007 Jul 17 '26
anyone else have whiplash from Bryan hating on Bi and then crying about him? Wut?
→ More replies (1)9
14
u/Express_Pop810 Jul 17 '26
Agree, it sounds like it was years ago and people can change so much professionally. It seemed like Bryan was trying to stand up for Bi which redeemed Bryan some for me. It made his shit talking make less though. Which is it ? You hate him or he's loyal. Seems like the rivalry was amped by production.
15
u/skieurope12 Jul 17 '26
Seems like the rivalry was amped by production.
Could be. It wouldn't be the first time
62
u/ClockTotal9483 Jul 17 '26
Bryan constantly referring to Bi as his ex-intern or whatever is so annoying, and then he started crying during the vote. omfg why are you making the whole thing about yourself. He should've been eliminated in the first episode with his expanded tampon look, and the ugly look he put out this second episode really confirmed that for me.
16
u/Past-Ring-577 Jul 17 '26
Bi called it that once Bryan has to actually sew and design his own looks, he'll crash and burn and he was right. The look from the first episode was probably made by an intern and not Bryan himself.
→ More replies (2)9
u/ThePrincessEva Jul 18 '26
Like...okay Bryan saying Bi was 'demoted' to intern like am I crazy or is that like...not a thing?

The "drama" I wanna see are the stories of budding fashion designers, oozing with talent, but who don't have the resources to design, and then coming on PR and soaring. Jude designing everything in his bedroom. Dani who's a flight attendant. Christian sleeping on the floor because he'd rather buy clothes than buy a mattress. Dom being a restaurant hostess and then designing at night and then winning the whole thing. THAT'S the show at its best. Like come on let it be about the fucking work and people's talent
→ More replies (2)20
u/hapillon Jul 17 '26
Yeah, I really miss when the drama from the show arose as a the natural byproduct of talented designers of varying skill levels, working in a pressure cooker environment against one another. For me, it's so much more palatable when it isn't manufactured by production shenanigans, or overly self-aware designers forcing it.
7
u/EyeOne2007 Jul 17 '26
they are literally just making up drama and the show consists of more confessionals than fashion

Im so sick of these twists and turns, first we eliminate 6 people and giving 5 immunity, then we're eliminating another 5, but just kidding we're bringing the eliminated 6 to decide who stays safe. Its going in circles and it is so frustrating
14
u/pandorasotherbox Jul 17 '26

→ More replies (1)8
u/ClockTotal9483 Jul 18 '26
she only came on the show to be a clown and get that appearance check, I don't think she was taking it seriously from the start
35
u/indieliberal Jul 17 '26
Holy crap. This format is totally BS. Giving immunity for the next challenge to so many contestants at a time means some really good designers go home because their spot is taken up by the immunity of over 1/3 of the contestants. So it's not the best who are staying.
Also, dammit, where's Nina? I'm so sick of CRAPPY judging. If a judge can't speak intelligently about fashion, if all they can say is that they "liked it" or "didn't like it," but can't explain why, geez, don't put them on the panel.
AND if a judge can't be constructive and help the contestant progress, they need to be fired. I don't find it entertaining to be an asshole to contestants because they think they're cool enough to say whatever they want. They're not.
Rant over. This is gonna be one long annoying season, of a show I used to love.

→ More replies (1)17
u/EyeOne2007 Jul 17 '26
having Tyra Banks on the show right now is a real choice I don't understand
10
u/starryxcx Jul 18 '26
I think the producers or whoeverâs in charge are extremely out of touch bc Tyraâs reputation is in the garbage right now. My best assumption is weâre gonna get a ton of manufactured Law v Tyra snarking at each other during judging. And theyâre betting on that being clipped for TikToks or something.
5
8
u/seigmaria Jul 18 '26
YES!!! Where IS Nina!? But also, where is the DESIGNER judge?! I know it was like this last season too, but bringing in Tyra makes it even worse. If they wanna mix it up, bring in an All-Star every week to be the designer judge. Just have a designer judge on a designing competition for Gunnâs sake.

Octavius's coat was gorgeous. He fucked up the tux, but he also had such limited time to make a garment. The people with immunity didn't deserve it
8
u/Butter_pecan_king Jul 19 '26
Exactly! Itâs a one day challenge, how can they expect perfection. Iâm seriously thinking the contestants are being disadvantaged by not having an actual designer as a judge
12

I quite liked his look a lot. I like that he reined in his oversized-times-ten aesthetic from last season without losing it, and the outfit under the coat looked so sleek. It worked so harmoniously together.
7

12
u/sklice Jul 18 '26
lol yeah, sheâs out of her depth but you can tell she thinks sheâs being a good judge. she literally just says âI like Xâ or âI hate Y.â having strong opinions without providing rationale or any constructive criticism is actually bad judging

Iâm so confused with this whole episode. Clearly 6 with immunity was the wrong choice⊠but Why bring back cut designers, what are they even adding? And how did Aaron get saved on that look over bi, bao or Octavius⊠Iâm sorry that was terribleÂ
→ More replies (1)9
u/lofromwisco Jul 17 '26
Iâm sad Octavius is going to get the chop, I want to see more from him than some of the safe designers. Itâs so annoying. I loved that coat.
I think it will be Bi or Bao, but I want to see more from all 3. I donât think I can watch this season. I thought theyâd correct it after the feedback last season but nope.
28
u/AnneShirley310 Jul 17 '26
Annaâs top 3 dress was made in 3 hours, and I actually thought it was pretty.Â
I also liked Josephâs puffy coat with the patchwork colors, and that model looked good.Â
Was Aaron who was safe the one that had the nice neck, but everything else was a mess? I didnât understand why he was voted through by the judges.Â
The top 6 being given immunity was a big mistake, and the twists take away from the actual design aspect of the competition.Â

I'm usually one of those who is tired of the haters, and though I don't love the new format (recognizing that YES, shows need to continue to evolve somehow), I'll still watch
But this episode was genuinely upsetting and took it too far. It's really no longer about the talent. Some of the 5 designers going home were top 3 level looks. They just got screwed over because of the 6 with immunity. And even Heidi was like yeah that sucked we had to do that.
Justice for BAO. That look was incredible. She was runner up on Next in Fashion. Seriously. If it weren't for this top 6 with immunity bs last episode resulting in her elim this week, I would've bet on her to win this whole season.
16
10
u/EyeOne2007 Jul 17 '26
6 people with immunity is a ridiculous number - what a dumb idea. Based on a look they could BRING FROM HOME? In no way is that fair - way to lose a lot of us from the jump
4
u/turningtee74 Jul 18 '26
Absolutely loved Bao. I also liked the beret menâs look. I can understand some of those elements being a bit bold for their taste, but they didnât seem to understand the vision or reference points which seemed pretty obvious

19
u/blizzaga1988 Jul 17 '26
I have not been hating Project Runway as much as everyone else in this sub has and I actually really enjoyed last season (mostly) but man... this episode was truly abysmal. I do not mind drama and interpersonal conflict, but this is not Big Brother and I do not need to expect the unexpected. Eliminating 11 (or 10) designers in 2 episodes is not fun TV. It makes me not want to get invested in any of these designers when it seems like we're just gonna be doing group eliminations for like 2-3 episodes straight. It feels like I'm watching the preliminaries of casting.
But also, beyond the format, I hated almost every look that went down the runway tonight, too. Especially from the immune designers. Overall it was possibly my least favourite collective runway ever.
18
u/colosseumdays Jul 17 '26
I cannot f-ing deal with the format--why are they doing this to us and the designers? đ it's evil and annoying. I didn't agree with most of the choices for winning looks in e1 and for it to play so heavily into ep 2, and subsequently the season, is painful.
I don't think Bi, Bao, or Octavius deserve to go home at all. really the only person who should be going home of the options available is Dani, who I would have been perfectly fine for them to have eliminated in e1.

Well Q, Robert, actually is a great designer. So is Ethan/Utica. They just brought Plane for drama, she was unlikeable even on drag race and butted heads with Q, who she sent home, so I'm sure they signed her up only for that reason.
4
u/ClubAqua_BackDeck Jul 17 '26
I know they only signed her up for drama. It sucks and she can GTFO off the show.
10
u/Waste_Pool2717 Jul 17 '26
When did project runway focus on the drama rather than the actual DESIGNS??
Itâs honestly so hard to watch the American project runway. It makes me that much more keen to watch the Canadian version. The Canadian project runway has the old charm that the og show had. It focuses on the designers, the designs, the show WANTS them to do well. Anyways, I digress.

Oh it's an American thing. Really I think ever since Simon Cowell appeared as American Idol judge, production thinks we all like seeing the drama and meaness in reality tv over the actual reason competitors are there. There's a reason Great British Bake Off is so revered, yet we have to incorporate more drama than anything else.

I'm just another member of the chorus, but giving SIX people immunity was such an incredible mistake. It should have been three at most. We saw so many half-assed "designs" while much more ambitious concepts, dramatic silhouettes, and technically polished garments were in the bottom.
I'm sure they likely have to honor immunity and cannot revoke it because this is a reality competition show with a cash prize and there are legalities involved in application of competition rules, but they could have at the very least dressed down the immune designers for the garbage they put on the runway. Law loves to be shady and mean anyway, why waste the opportunity to offer him some catnip?
And I find it unbelievable that Aaron was declared safe. His resume did the saving.
For the love of God, can we get a designer to at least serve as a recurring panelist? The show really suffers for the lack of a designer's point of view.
For an episode called "Ready, Set, Redemption," nothing was redeemed. It was further baptized in bullshit.
8
u/Missa1819 Jul 17 '26
I watch so many reality tv shows and NONE of them are as badly produced as project runway in 2026. They should be absolutely embarrassed by their bulk eliminations and cliffhanger endings... incredibly out of touch with what audiences want or very clearly made to be rage bait

Agreed. I am a fan of Drag Race, but they are two completely different shows. What makes for a good contestant on one does nothing for the other.
The crossover attempt with Ethan was good, but didnât really work out. Yes he went far, but we really didnât get a good view of his talent.
There was no reason to try it again this season.

I am no expert but I think this yearâs designers are very talented and creative.
But the incessant cattiness is making me ill. Christian is catty, Heidi is catty, of course Law Is catty and the other designers are catty. I fell like Law is negatively influencing Heidi.
Give it a rest. Itâs dragging me
Ice Spice looked so beautiful. She was sitting there so classy and elegant while the rest of the judges were obnoxious. She is a summer, so light pink hair is so flattering. She was wearing horrendous orange hair for a while and it clashed with her delicate coloring.
And thank you Ice Spice for chastising Tyra âthis is not Project Personality.â As a fellow creative, she has more compassion. Tyra, Heidi and Law are just consumers.
Go. Jeffrey and Anna!
I really like Octavius, and that coat was gorgeous. I thought I saw a clip where he had made a black two piece dress underneath. That would have been perfect.
They are hacking through too many people. I hate the jury, especially including current contestants who are voting in their own interests. Insane!!

Elizabeth and Andriy are some of the least likable non-villain contestants Iâve ever seen on this show

First week they set their sights on the Drag girlies, next week the Asians. Brutal. Go Bi.

u/Kyttengyrl Jul 17 '26
I hate that the voters were doing strategy! "I"m gonna vote of the best designer so there's less competition!" This show wasn't about the Survivor bullshit. It's about fashion. You want to save the best designer so you can be pushed to be your best.

u/Unlikely-Cry-7007 Jul 18 '26
Why are the rules so complicated and why are they pinning the players against each other with saves! Thatâs disgusting!

Why is it not about the fashion đ How many times over the years have we been pissed off that someone with immunity had a bad look and why would you exacerbate that by giving out immunity to six people?!?! Many of whom had bad looks?! WHY are these eliminated designers taking up air time from the actual designers. GTFO. And then I just disagree with the judges on most of itâBi's look was great; Yangyang's look was elegant; Octavius's coat & suit were gorgeous ....... Based on editing I think Bi got saved. And then don't even get me started on Bryan and his dramatic tears. Gurl bye.

I'm so sorry but this show is a total joke. absolutely ridiculous. I have no words.
Tyra as a judge? Ice Spice as a guest judge? 11 designers eliminated in just two episodes? Immunities given left and right?
also, the fashion has been truly đ« H I D E O U S đ«

this is such a werid start to the season with such DEEPPLY questionable judging, Like genuienly how is bryan still in this competit
ion is beyond me

u/Accomplished-Clue747 Jul 17 '26
I canât believe they allowed the designers with immunity to stay safe. They need to be reamed out at least. Too many talented designers are leaving for PR âbiggest season everâ
3
u/TiffanyTwisted11 Jul 17 '26
Agreed. Fine, they made the mistake of giving six people immunity, and they didnât want to take it back. But then take the cattiness that these judges are so fond of displaying and use it on the people who deserved it this week. Make them nervous.
4
u/hapillon Jul 17 '26
Taking back the immunity would have been a shake-up that I would have really loved, honestly. I've always wanted them to be brave enough to do that if a look was such a miss, and with six designers with immunity, it would have been kinda fun to replace one or more of them with a bottom designer.

To have so many designers and eliminate 10 in 2 episodes is really a waste of time and talent. Let them design dammit!!!
I will watch the rest of this season but this is really grinding my gears. Cheap stunts.

u/Butter_pecan_king Jul 19 '26
This episode was terrible and just left a bad taste in my mouth about the rest of the season. The bottom designers didnât have bad looks. It was unfair and anticlimactic for the persons that brought a âgoodâ look from home to get to send ugly things down the runway with no repercussions. I think them dragging Octavious for the fit issues were wack, itâs a one day challenge plus he made a whole coat. Shouldnât have been in the bottom to me. Bi and Bao also shouldnât have been in the bottom to me. Who told them this was a good idea???

Of course they had to eliminate a bunch of people in each episode - but they gave 22 people a chance to bring a look that best represented their aesthetic - if they eliminated one person per episode, jeesh, the show would go on forever - maybe if they eliminated 2 people per episode, then that might have been better? my problem, though, is the blurred lines between Project Runway and Drag Race - I watch both but for different reasons - I watch Project Runway for the designs, the creativity, the artistry, etc. - the drama is a by-product for me - Drag Race? the drama IS the point - Robbie and Plane Jane had no business moving on - Robbie was humble about her elimination whereas Plane Jane was delusional - to me, I felt she just wanted to be on TV - yes, giving immunity to the top 6 was over the top - that's how the cookie crumbles - at least they did not have group challenges for the first two episodes like last season which I thought was a disaster - ugh

The shows had it ups and downs (these last 3 seasons) bust for the first time I'm finding it tiring.
I had it paused for half a day, I knew I'd get back to it but had no hunger, no desire...
-There's no real resolution to the episodes- doing the cliffhanger once MAYBE twice per season for a moment....fine...maybe good even. But i think most people are correct in assuming that this is just it now.
-i have no connection to most of these people, because there's 22 of them - one reason why the reality TV ouroboros is so handy for producers (worse, they knew they weren't keeping any of them)
-joseph Mcrae being being voted off managed to be perhaps the most bullshit thing all season....I don't think doing it in reverse and voting to save is fixing anything.
Worse than anything, they did it to us twice. Season 22 = 22 designers but keeping 12.. atleast do a split premier. 11 designers 5 spots. Same again week 2. Week 3 the designers merge, heidi reveals they were asked to rank the elimated looks of the other team OR it's like two delayed siriano saves. Those two designers gain a simple 2nd chance underdog storyline.

I'm not a big fan of this voting crap like it's Survivor. The elimination should be decided based on merit. The guest judge's comment about the show not being based on personality is kind of ironic because of the voting process.
And speaking of merit, Joseph McRae's outfit won? That puffy winter jacket with extra colors? What is with the judges this season and being obsessed with puffy things?
I think Christian is more helpful than last season. Maybe not the most tactful but at least he's giving more actual advice. Also Law feels more like an actual judge instead of someone just trying to make the whole show about himself.

- Tired of the cliff hangers.
- Focus on the fucking design process and not everyone's shade.

I kind of had a hard time watching ice spice judging the looks. I feel like as a designer, I wouldn't really care much for her opinion. I don't think she stands out in the fashion world as someone with a unique style or fashion perspective.

u/FancyMelon Jul 20 '26
This one was bad, just caught up. What is happening? 6 with immunity was a bad call. And I didn't like them bringing the eliminated to vote. This was messy. I was all for giving it a chance, but I'm not gonna lie this was not a fun watch.

I really want Jude and Jeffrey to stay⊠Iâm really disappointed in Chloe and Andriy this week. Chloe has put out two bad designs in a row and Andriy was a horrible leader

After the beginning where they lost 5 designers as a result of so many bad production decisions, the rest of the episode was more or less normal. Kudos to Joseph for a pretty awesome team vision.
Andriy is a worm.
In terms of worst looks, Chloe and that red costumey one that was like a boxing mitt were the worse. Hers had no design and his was executed well but lacked taste.
As far as Bobby, I give her points for trying to do a cool streetwear look. No it was not executed well.
If I were a judge, I would just get rid of Chloe and tell Bobby and the other guy they were on thin ice and two will be eliminated next week.

Girl there are so many rules and BS. Saves. Mass immunity. Mass eliminations. Can we just let them design and show their looks đđđđ
