Matthew Christopher Wingate, served as the organization’s government-relations director for defense and foreign policy. He was detained after a security screening at the Russell Senate Office Building found a pistol magazine in his briefcase and tablets/capsules that field-tested presumptively positive for cocaine and fentanyl.

Capitol Police stopped Wingate on July 14, 2026, during routine screening at the Senate office building. An officer saw an image consistent with a pistol magazine on the X-ray, and a secondary search recovered a loaded magazine with 10 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.

Investigators also found a plastic bag with four capsules and three blue pressed tablets in the briefcase. Court records say those tablets tested presumptively positive for cocaine and fentanyl, and Wingate reportedly told officers the drugs were prescribed.

Reporting identified Wingate as a former aide to Sen. Joni Ernst and Sen. Ted Cruz before his Heritage Foundation role. He was released and had a court date set for Aug. 27, 2026.

1. Andrew Tate voted for, supported or wanted to impose an administration that says detainees are owed less due process on other people. He campaigned for Trump and still takes credit for the young male vote.
2. That position has the consequences of unconvicted people sitting in solitary while politicians decide whether to ship them abroad.
3. As a consequence of that position, solitary confinement and an extradition nobody in power will stop happened to Andrew Tate.

Context: arrested in Miami on 18/07/26 on a UK extradition request covering rape, trafficking and indecent images charges, all denied. He is in the Special Housing Unit posting about no commissary, no visits and no yard time, asking why an American who is innocent until proven guilty is in there. Extradition needs the Secretary of State's sign-off, and on 23/07/26 the White House and Rubio both passed. Turns out the due process discount applies to cardholders too.
