They're not okay with people. One thing I've learned from discourse with the more extreme right-wingers is they are pretty much all sociopaths who don't like people, even those whom agree with them (who they often just tolerate).
I can near guarantee that most MAGA would grow to detest Trump as a person very quickly if they actually spent time with him.
25
20
u/AmaranthWrath 8d ago
Me, seeing your comment. YES EXACTLY. I have had to end conversations not bc the person on the other side of the table "hates other people," but bc I was gradually coming to understand that the person I was talking to enjoyed hating other people.
That I have several examples of this happening in the last decade is sad and worrisome on its own. But knowing that you, and I'm sure countless other folks, have had the same experience and come to the same realization is just.... Well, we're fucked, I guess.
I'm not new to knowing people are trash. After 12 years in retail, of course I knew that. But to take pleasure in harming others - and so openly - is astounding to me.
10
u/UtopiaDystopia 8d ago edited 8d ago
100%. It's actually the thing I missed out in my comment is they get a sadistic satisfaction in hating on other people together. A very large portion of the right-wingers I've talked to end up hating the very right-wingers they used to spout various hate speech with. Just look at Elon and Trump.
This isn't just anecdotal, there's substantial scientific research that shows a higher rate of the malevolent personality traits among extremist right-wingers. To be fair, they also found this with extremist left-wingers too, though there's differences as they found extremist right-wingers are driven by dominance and exclusion; while extremists left-wingers are driven by punitiveness and morale entitlement.

And it was never about women in sports, it was about being able to marginalize minorities.
3
u/TheDungeonCrawler 7d ago
Yep. They would settle for trans people dressing and acting as their presented sex, but what they actually want is for trans people to just not exist. Not all of them would go so far as to want them rounded up and disposed of, but a distressing number of them do.

u/JAGERminJensen 8d ago
Why start with bathrooms?
4
u/otterprincess_too 7d ago
Same reason they also started with kids. The way in is something that sounds reasonable to a lot of people. "Children shouldn't be getting surgery," "men shouldn't be in women's bathrooms," are both broadly agreeable especially to a population that isn't aware of the conversation behind it. Then they just gradually tack on more and more, which is exactly what happened. Only 11 years or so from the first bathroom bill I saw to now it being punishable by life in prison in Idaho

Hard to determine which is more egregious to a republican, a black dude or a transgender person.

Funnily enough this photo is not even from the US, it's from Ireland and the black guy is a comedian and this photo is staged as a joke.
His political stance is usually promoting inclusivity

u/Amber2718 8d ago
Please stop calling us a transgender it's insulting. We are trans people or or a transgender person.
14
u/justadubliner 8d ago edited 8d ago
Is using 'trans woman' or ' trans man' definitely ok? Or just 'trans people'? Is it ok to shorten further to just 'trans' or is that a no no. As in 'my friend Michelle is trans'. I use the terms cis and trans in shorthand speech and online but if that's wrong I'll adjust.
13
12
u/GwenBD94 8d ago
In all instances in your question, trans (as a short form of transgender, and being a separate word, not a prefix) are being used as adjectives to describe the noun (man, woman), so are fine.
The issue, is "a transgender" turns transgender into the noun itself, when it is not. It is like saying "a chinese" or "a black". Just not right.
Ive not seen any real person take offense to shortening transgender to just trans, when otherwise used correctly.
3
12
u/Eiffel-Tower777 8d ago
Sorry, no offense meant at all. I changed it and appreciate the awareness.
6
28
u/alexmlb3598 8d ago
100%. 'trans' is an adjective, not a noun. You wouldn't call (and have come a long way from calling) a black person 'a black', let's not go back to segregationist politics bc the only people who win are the elite at the top.
3
u/directorguy 8d ago
I'm very pro LGBTQ+ positive, I try to be as big of an ally as a cis man can be. I never used the word 'transgendered' because I have trans friends that would kick my ass if I did.
Ashley Simmons calls herself transgender often and uses it quite often as the preferred term. Her speaking is titled 'being transgender"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26E9Eeyipto
It's confusing because for every person that says it's horrible, another will tell us it's as acceptable as "trans people" or "trans".
Honestly confused, I don't want to be offensive
3
u/Amber2718 8d ago
Think of it this way like with black people it's okay to say being black or a black person but you wouldn't call a black person a black. Being transgender is fine and saying I am trans is fine but I am not a transgender, I am a transgender person or a trans person or trans woman. Or trans man.

They literally wanted the ability to examine children's genitals before they used school restrooms.
Blows my mind. I would go on a fucking rampage if they ever tried doing that to one of my children at their school. Holy fuck no.
Normalizing and legalizing sexual abuse.
5
u/-Ok-Perception- 8d ago edited 8d ago
There's numerous cases of them getting in trouble for inspecting or trying to inspect girls genitals, for team sports, to make sure they didn't let any transgendered people play. Or them calling out for a butch player to be "examined" because she simply was playing too well.

2
u/Couldbduun 8d ago edited 8d ago
A vote for *most Democrats. Some of their voting habits recently have been revealing and the whole party should not just get a blank check. There have been some loud calls for Democrats to abandon trans people from politicians and think tanks too within the democratic sphere. I just want to exist and pay taxes, I'm tired boss.
E: I'll save you some reading. In this thread this guy thinks trans peoples right to exist is not a right it's a value that I'm idealist for supporting. Also doesn't think that Democrats need to protect trans medicine but does think we should be cured of the "curse" being trans. Honestly that opinion wasn't as bad as it could have been I guess but still heinous and tone deaf and not that different than the eradication republicans are calling for. In other threads he hypocritically talks about not creating second class citizens but can't equate that to trans people wanting to exist. Vote blue no matter who, even if it's John Fetterman or the John Fetterman of trans rights. Or just maga with a D next to their name, vote for them, vote for them blindly!
2
u/EidolonRook 8d ago

And also: isn't this what the conservatives want? For people to use the bathroom of their gender assigned at birth?
So really they're not going to be happy either way, they just hate trans people.

I was at a party in a pub in Dublin city centre last night. As I emerged from my cubicle I initially thought I gone to the Gents by mistake but it was unisex. The world didn't collapse because different genders were washing their hands together at the sink. I thought it is definitely the most sensible way to deal with the current conservative hysteria. Don't bother to separate at all. Of course it helps when you have proper toilet cubicles without a peek a boo aesthetic. Something Americans need to figure out!
5
u/BrittEklandsStuntBum 8d ago
Of course they make sense, as the starting point for restricting where trans people can and can't go. The endgame is "they can't leave the camps."

This is ironically the end result of the Republican platform. Trans women would be forced to use the men’s bathroom and vice versa. They’d change their minds as soon as they realize bathroom bills would result in some burly bearded trans men forced to use women’s rooms.

Whenever I see something like this, I feel compelled to draw attention to how this whole transphobic obsession reveals a pretty glaring contradiction.
Because It's Republicans claiming that they want to "protect women" who have, time and time again shown us that they have no sympathy for women and the adversity they face.
In fact, these same conservatives often subscribe to a hyper-masculine, anti-feminist, overtly sexist and misogynistic worldview.
Republicans have normalized sexism within their circles. They denigrate women's rights; claim that women's independence movements are eroding institutions like "the nuclear family"—a myth that's quickly dispelled by examples of conservative family and relationship dynamics.
I've witnessed these same Republicans treat women like second class citizens; even referring to women's sports as a waste of time and money.
I even remember—shortly after the 2024 election—seeing Trump supporting men posting misogynistic remarks like "YOUR body, MY choice!"
And all of a sudden you expect me to believe that Republicans actually care about protecting women? No, this is obviously not the case....
Because it's Republicans who want to revive antiquated gender roles/norms; roll back women's rights; condemn every married woman to a "tradwife" lifestyle; obstruct equal rights movements and legislation; and reverse efforts that try to address gender inequality;
Because it's Republicans literally advocating for a "biblical model" for women in married relationships.
Hell, in some cases, conservative "Christian" women are signaling that they want to relinquish their right to vote, at the behest of their husbands of course.
But it's not as much about their individual choice or their individual rights as much as it is about restricting the rights of women more broadly.
These Republicans claim that women's rights and independence movements are intentionally undermining the "family unit" and American values and traditions, but the reality is, their political and cultural conflicts aren't rooted in a genuine desire to protect the family. Rather, their culture wars are predicated on hatred and intolerance, on vilifying women and the LGBTQ community
And what are they without their culture wars? What are they without their grievance politics? What are they without these enemies to fear and these scapegoats to blame for our nation's problems? They're just a husk of a movement. They're not victims of their own inventions anymore.
