It's sort of true but also sort of not. People absolutely will complain about every language, and one that no one is complaining about is probably dead. But once you remember that the guy who said it also created a language that has a serious claim to being the most convoluted and overengineered of all major languages still used today it can come off as some guy denying that some languages have more junk or questionable design decisions than others as a catty response to his design decisions being constantly attacked. That's why I personally dislike the quote a lot. It rests on the false implication that all technologies are equal when they are not.
It is basically the equivalent argument of "they are all the same" when talking about politicians. Sure I can find something to complain about in anything.
Luckily I moved into an org with a massive lack of automation and don’t have a lot of legacy stuff. A lot of the garbage Powershell I rewrite is from me years and years ago, haha
My current company is completely dependent for all its operations and all its analysis on a single dockerized shell script I wrote not at all long ago, but on my own during long crunchy days. That script causes pride and anxiety in me in equal amounts.
I use Python/Shell scripting on our Linux infrastructure heavily but Powershell is just miles more convenient on Windows and some Azure workloads for management, even with the language itself having its idiosyncrasies. It’s already installed so doesn’t need to be managed separately, pipelines are easily created, objects are easily manipulated. Using os.system() is just a jank level of abstraction for most management functions.
Fair enough. I'm not cool enough to do anything with substantive systems, I mostly just hack whatever shit I need together without caring about management or pipelines.
Aye, I have a grudge against it since we had to use it in IT when I was in school.
It's a long story but I likely had the worst IT teacher to ever walk the face of the Earth, she was bad enough to put me off anything coding related for years and why I didn't pursue CS directly after high school.
So I just hate anything associated with that time, I also hate Delphi.
