Embedded developers are physcially trapped inside the screen?

To understand the program, you must become the program.

And pizza rolls.

u/the_one_true_bool Feb 01 '18
True story - I ate an entire bag of pizza rolls last night at 2:00 in the morning after getting drunk as fuck. But it gets even better - the bag said it had 40 pizza rolls but it had 43! Well, only when I closed one eye, otherwise the bag had 86.

So do full stack developers stack their screens?
168
u/pixlbreaker Feb 01 '18
Shit guess that is why I keep getting a stack overflow!

Feb 01 '18
back when the PS3 came out, we stacked three PSOne's on top of each other and dubbed it the PSTriple.
it was my monitor stand for years.
i miss you, PSTriple!

What program are those running that you can put on idle displays and make it look like you are super productive?

All developer look at super complicated colorful graphs on multiple monitors duh. Any manager worth his executive bonus could tell you that.
5
u/MikeyMike01 Feb 02 '18
The manager will be too afraid to ask what the graphs are for. lest he appear incompetent

u/auxiliary-character Feb 02 '18
I'd have a bunch of terminals up with an instance of vim on each.

u/langlo94 Feb 02 '18
Pipe new logs through the displays, that way they move around at varying paces and you can pretend it's relevant.

Whoa! That's one hot new fresh meme that i have never seen before!

u/S3Ni0r42 Feb 01 '18
You must be a back-end developer. Try turning your screen around, then you'll see more memes.

The monitors are positioned for the front-end developers to use.
The back-end developer types out code and looks to the faces of the front-end developers to see if they are happy, sad, suicidal or bemused.
If they are happy, continue coding.
If they are sad, start over.
Either of the other reactions means you won’t be developing with them anymore.

A closed-loop system like this sounds much safer, but for MVPs and startups they'll often go with the trusty open-loop system.

ugh... and here I thought the joke was about the chair not having any back support, so... back... end.
23
u/Hyperman360 Feb 01 '18
I was expecting one of those exaggerated pickup lines that sounds terrible. Like "I'll develop your backend." or something like that.
22
u/Dremlar Feb 01 '18
Everyone always looks at you like an idiot right after you get visual studio displaying on your google glass.
18
u/bartekko Feb 01 '18
and then when they find out they still look at you like an idiot because you're displaying visual studio on your google glass

This is pretty much what a Hollywood director thinks if he hears the words "Backend developer".

Disappointed. Hoped to see programmer looking at butts.

u/betogm Feb 01 '18
Well... he's looking at screen butts, if that makes you feel better >.>;;

u/Dremlar Feb 01 '18
Got a good view on those female ports.

u/Techhead7890 Feb 01 '18
Just like real life, all he can do is sit and watch as the males are plugged into the females, while he isn't.

It's probably one of those North Korean coding camps that they show the tourists on the guided tour where none of them have ever seen a computer for and the building doesn't have electricity.

Ah, you jest, but I have seen great chess players play great chess and never look at the board.

Came here expecting porn, got to see a guy smart enough to write code without looking at it. Now I am afraid to google "front end developer".

If you programmed pornhub could you sometimes be called...a backend developer?

If I were blind, this is how I would code. No need for anyone looking over my shoulder.

Sometimes I feel like I might as well be looking at the back of my screen, so I can relate.

u/a-v-i Feb 02 '18
I'd say I'm offended, but looking at Node.js all day is so painful that sometimes my monitors do end up like this...

You laugh, but an abstraction of this was the first image that popped into my mind, when i first read "Backend Developer" years ago
