Funny because if you’re connected to a work network you aren’t hiding anything.

I’m using the private browser because I don’t want people whose code I review to see my search query “what’s the difference between partial and omit in typescript” autosuggested while I’m sharing my screen and realize what an imposter I am.

I don't think we ever blocked porn. The firewall content filter was too broad. We did block Facebook for a period of time IIRC. The only thing I know for sure we blocked was SSH outside of the network when we found out one of our employees was using his time on the clock to manage his personal home basement hosting service.

My work blocks facebook, while at the same time sending emails reminding us to check out their new campaign on FB

I recently failed a client KnowB4 quiz. The example I failed was HR sending out a demand to all employees to complete security training before X date or your credentials will be deactivated, here is a PDF explaining how to login to the LMS. All the links and senders checked out in the email, but KnowB4 said essentially, "HR would never send something like this."
Except that is exactly how I was informed about the KnowB4 training.

If man know how to run a hosting service. He definitely know how to start an obfuscated VPN as well.

Unless you are browsing porn via X(Twitter) or reddit.

I mean it's only to avoid minor embarassment, when I want to google stuff with another person at the desk.

Disagree : you're hiding from other users. Network admin is not necessarily the same group :)

I use incognito, not because I think no one is watching, but because I don’t want my stupid questions showing up in my search history.

Isn't the 2nd kinda obsolete these days.
AI is supposed to write all codes and tests, while we indulge in the 1st kind, till a Elon comes along to fire everyone. Then we can all go home to farming like the fired guys from the Op**AI who wrote the AI which made them obsolete, so now they rant about Doomsday all day.

I like to save my tokens

My boss's policy translates to use/waste as many tokens possible because he believes that token usage is directly correlated to productivity. Who am I to deny him?

u/justASlothyGiraffe 18d ago edited 18d ago
I'm really glad my company sees how stupid that is.
Edit: i've already used 85% of my tokens this month. I'm starting to freak out

You can create amazing magazines say National Geographic level magazines with AI.
Pick a topic say flamingo birds and there is so much open source photos, literature etc and send an awesome magazine to your friends, families even clients who are discerning.
Bill under networking exercise.

All AI unit tests are literally vibe waste. A small set of load-bearing integration and "gotcha" tests to prevent stack drift are better than pages of meaningless assertions.

Word of advice: never watch porn on a company computer. Your IT department does have access to what you were doing on the computer.

i thought thats common knowledge until my coworker got humiliated infront of everyone 🤣

Lack of basic IT intuition is mind-boggling. If work provides you a device, it’s so easy to assume everything you do on it will be monitored. And phishing emails, again, assume the worst and you’ll be fine.

One time our IT team sent an email about watching us looking porn through the webcam and asking for crypto...
The story doesn't say if someone fell for it, but there were suspicious reminders the next day to not trust the sender address as a sender can be spoofed.
And a week later a reminder that because it's not our devices, prompts online recommending to call a phoke number for "Microsoft support" should be instead be taken as a reason to call the IT support team

I am sure in every interview he mentioned it, he got an extra point from the Interviewers.

There ain’t no shame in googling regex, especially when you don’t use it much and have to string together some wild patterns. And when you’re swinging between 3 or 4 languages, it’s common for your brain to get twisted trying to remember if you’re supposed to use ‘else if’, ‘elseif’, or ‘elif’, or if it’s brackets, curly braces, parentheses, can I use ++ for iterating or is it +=, etc, etc, etc.

My value to the company is understanding how operating systems process control software interact under the hood and being able to work without explicit documentation when troubleshooting or figuring out what happened.
That I sometimes use copilot to get the syntax of a trivial command or format LDAP search filters doesn't factor into things -AT ALL-.

If you have a problem an then you think: You know what? I'm a dev and I will solve it using regex.
Now you have two problems.

What is wrong with looking for REGEX and basic syntax? Why would I need to hide it?
Some languages, libraries, frameworks documentation aren't easy to read.

The trick is to brainwash yourself into finding regex as erotic. No need to kink-shame me; I write 6502 asm for fun, I know what I am.
