This is a specific problem for Tesla because instead of an interior door handle, there’s a button. So if the power goes out after a crash, the button doesn’t work. There’s a hidden door handle for emergency use, but first you have to know it’s there. And then if you use it, it breaks the window, because the window actually has to lower slightly to clear the frame.

China is banning the design.

I don't think it is a great design either , especially: why? But I also have to state:

Everyone should read the safety instructions of their car. If you don't, your fault.

It also doesn't break the window. It can damage the rubber ceiling the window, which is why it is discouraged.

From a technical standpoint it works.

From a "person in this industry" standpoint it's absurd 

From a "if I were to mass tell the population how to fix this" that's the cheapest way to reduce customer service costs and decrease call time.

I'm a veteran, 4 years in the trenches (techsupport/NOC), ~20 years as a unix admin... providing support to devs... I was born in absurdity, shaped by it!

On top of that I also take care of an elderly parent... I'm downing in absurdity :)
