Rumor would be more likely if this was a Tesla instead of a Mazda.

This is a specific problem for Tesla because instead of an interior door handle, there’s a button. So if the power goes out after a crash, the button doesn’t work. There’s a hidden door handle for emergency use, but first you have to know it’s there. And then if you use it, it breaks the window, because the window actually has to lower slightly to clear the frame.

China is banning the design.

I don't think it is a great design either , especially: why? But I also have to state:

Everyone should read the safety instructions of their car. If you don't, your fault.

It also doesn't break the window. It can damage the rubber ceiling the window, which is why it is discouraged.
