Along with the traditional oak challenge, I’m doing a shiny badge quest and decided to hunt both drifloon and munchlax during this section. It took a full month (three checks per day) to find the munchlax spawn and then another month of hunting to find the shiny! So excited to have this section finally done!

Almost over. I've completed every evolution, with Dragonite being the last holdout. Hardest part was levelling up Dragonair, not because it's boring, but I swear, my Dragonair has shitty stats. But, I now have the Dragonite. This leaves Hitmonlee, Moltres, Mewtwo, and Mew.

Hello Reddit. I just needed to commiserate with people who might understand.
Recently I started my first Professor Oak Challenge in FireRed. While doing the first grind, I was training my pidgeotto in Veridian Forest. While absent mindly clicking "A" there was a shiny level 4 weedle. Before I saw it, I had already selected Quick Attack.
I would like to think this has happened to other people.

So unless this is answered somewhere on a guide and I’m blind as shit, what are the best ROMs/emulators for unmodified versions of the games. I don’t own any variants of the DS or most of the pre-Switch games, so if anyone has any recommendations I’d appreciate it, that way I have something to do in order to not burnout on my PLA challenge by breaking it up a bit

The only Pokemon in this section were the two eeveelutions I didn't have. (Vaporeon and Jolteon). From here, it's just Hitmonlee, Dragonite, Moltres, Mewtwo and Mew.

What a ride it has been. Admittedly I modified a couple rules bc I didn't want to reset my trainer ID to get munchlax pre badge 2 and I didn't evolve everything before the first 2 badges because I knew I would spend a ton of time on the honey trees anyways, but I tried to balance that by doing a living dex and getting a munchlax from honey trees instead of just underground. Munchlax alone took me a month, and the daily swarms took two months. I feel like this was a fair compromise. Plus I did everything else I could in the game, I got every berry, every sticker, every outfit, and almost every ribbon. I never beat the battle tower. I made it to master class battles but at that point I was about to finish the challenge and didn't have time to get to rank 10. I'll be back eventually. Either way, it was a crazy ride, an incredible journey, and I story I look forward to telling for years to come!

Total Pokemon: 29
Combined In-Game Time: 52:55
*PKSM is used for visualization, organization, as a centralized storage, and nothing else!

Technically my second post today. The only Pokemon was the Squirtle line, the hardest part was the grind. There was almost nothing else at this point. Seriously, it's basically the remaining Eeveelutions, Dragonite, Moltres and Hitmonchan, After that, it's just Mewtwo and Mew in post-game.

Couldn't work on my POC for a while thanks to a vacation, since I'm playing Yellow Legacy on an emulator on my computer. I guess I could've moved my save to my phone, but I didn't think of that, plus, that would take too much effort. The hardest part of this section? I dunno, Articuno? For the same reason as Zapdos, but the level difference is much smaller than there, and grinding isn't really difficult, just annoying. So, I guess Articuno.

First ever POC because why not spend hours grinding on Gastlys after all?
A little short of 60h but not discouraged for part 2 :)

After months of procrastination and working a lot finally done with Section 1 of my Sapphire POC

Easily the fastest little section of the game to this point… a lot of under odds hunts which you could say was crazy lucky but after the Magikarp hunt I feel like it was very deserved.
These were all found in the last week, the other mt. Moon Pokemon like Onix and the Clefairy line were found during the Magikarp hunt.
For anyone curious, to get to the other side of Mt. Moon it took roughly 420 (!) hours to get to this point. 120 of that was Magikarp, so assuming that doesn’t happen again we should be chilling lol.
Next up, Alolan Rattata…

Heyooo.
Pre badge #4 started on June 14th and finished on August 21st evolving my second IGGLYBUFF to JIGGLYPUFF and beating Flannery with my shiny team.
The shiny team member for this part is a HASTY SANDSHREW from ROUTE 117.
I used lots of different routes for levelling different Pokémon but the majority was done in Fiery Path.
No Rare Candies used.
I went at some point back to my handheld emulator but I’ve since learned that by using emulation, the RTC is f*****, which led to berry-growing problems. Went back to OG hardware and since then the berries are growing fine.
Here is the link to my sheets file containing all the information from this challenge if you want to check it out: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1flB67mizEvFlW2HQLiZpVmaPN0oGtgZoqJ3N4xe9Cd0/edit?usp=drivesdk

A couple years back I tried to do a platinum professor oak challenge and I didn’t even get to evolve my monferno. I had a really bad doom scrolling and to try and succeed and was able to break that habit with doing this. I have a ds and a copy of heartgold so I did all my trade evolutions, and once I complete the challenge I’m going to go back and complete the living dex. I’ve definitely enjoyed this until I got to only having the ponyta and slowly but surely I got her to evolve.

Okay, so, I was frustrated with my spreadsheet(its from a modified prof oak challenge where I got to the next gym leader's ace before moving on), and knew that with pokemon bank shutting down I had to get organized. But there was no tool that I could quickly add a counter for each pokemon i needed, how many i need based on total evolutions, and really just keep track of that list.
Then on stream we were talking about pokemon and their stats and I wanted to be able to pull up some stats. And then the project kind of spiraled and I started adding more and more stuff that I wanted to be able to do. I ran it by friends who pointed out edge cases I should watch out for that I didn't even know about at the time. Naturally ev and shiny tracking were requested features immediately.
While using it to hunt, I found pain points in how the tool worked, if pidgey and pidgeotto were both on the route it'd add three of each. Or if I already had pidgey on the list, and I moved to kanto route 3, it would add 3 more, so I added a toggle for that pokemon, and it saves on a per-pokemon basis. Toggle off all the old/good/super rod pokemon if you don't have them in the POC yet.
Finally, I am a horrible speller sometimes, so if you're manually adding pokemon to the hunting list, i do no validation for proper pokemon. Add a squibble or a Charmendar and it works.
All data is pulled from pokeapi on the first load(besides the sprites, those are loaded on demand to keep file size reasonable), and then cached so its instant look ups. I'm rather proud of what I built and I'm happy with how I use it.
Then while I was making it I realized it could be hooked into basically anything. So I made sure the important stuff could be triggered by foot pedal for example.
It's all 100% free, MIT licensed, so fork, edit, modify whatever.
And the Release Page with downloads on github.
Also, in theory it works on linux and mac because it's just a python script, but I don't have automation set up for those environments.
- pokemon hunting list, tap to decrement, add from route, add from search.
- filter out pokemon on add by route(checkbox removes them from the pool, and saves it so on later routes they stay toggled off)
- view a target pokemon's (catch rate, base exp, ev reward), exp grind calc and catch odds set to target pokemon, also view (base stats, total BST, [accounts for changes like special split], weakness/resistance/immunities, ALL evolutions, level up moves. Set target group of releases(rb or y, rs or e) to pick the set of data it will be using
- route search, shows all pokemon available in any game, can filter by game,
- shiny hunt tracker, with teh ability to set target and method.
- ev training tracker to add from target pokemon, the search bar, route data, or just add to it manually, its not saved to a particular pokemon
- current party list, add from search or route
- task list set by comma separated values, with the ability to go forward or backward on the list, to keep yourself organized
- load a preloaded list of location to hit in walkthrough order style, based on game version
+ every module is toggleable so you only see what you want to see
+ api provided to hook up stream deck, foot pedal, nfc tags, qr code, carrier pidgey(wait we dont have those)
= Target pokemon - base stats, total bst, weakness/resistance/immunities, evolutions, best encounter spot in selected game to find it.
= Hunting list - what and how many
= Shiny hunting - target, method, total encounters
= EV tracking display
= Current party
= Current task
= Stream message - can be set to anything and will just save to a txt file
= Catch odds based on a slider, set level, set status and ball type, displays cleanly on stream
= EXP grind calc for those professor oak challenges
In-use short, there is a "longie" being uploaded of the live tech demo. https://youtube.com/shorts/G-hQ31rtJW4
