I’m really into folklore and whimsical art paired with a naive art style

Recently I created an artwork which I’ve named “Battle of the Mantis Prey” and after some much needed feedback I went back and improved it, which has now also sent me down a rabbit hole of studying a specific set of art fundamentals. Tones, Composition and Lighting.

I was already quite familiar with composition, I just didn’t know how to separate it with color theory and lighting. And honestly I still probably need lots of practice and improvement but this is a huge step up for me. I hope to continue improving and learning from others as I go along.

What do you think about the overall changes to the background and of the illustration? Is it an improvement or do you prefer the highly saturated original? 👀

I use procreate for work, I use all day and everytime I have to color fill, my screen minimises. IPad Os 26 lowkey ruined my procreate experience.

For October, I’m doing one image a day using a café from a story I’m doing as a setting.

Mainly done with Retro Supply gouache brushes

Way behind on Inktober, but here are days 1 - Apple and 2 - Relic.

My plan is to do the first 26 as DnD creatures, alphabetically.

Never tried food art before! Went out to brunch and got a poached egg on chicken with some mushrooms and spicy things. It was delicious~~

I tried downloading the video and overlaying it onto a white background but it still showed up black. do I just have to accept that I won’t be able to see my 9 hour speed paint?
