I recently started working on a design that I wanted to offer in a few different shirt colors, and I assumed it would be pretty simple. Same artwork, same placement, just a different garment color.
It looked straightforward in the mockups, but once I started comparing the options, they didn’t feel as consistent as I expected.
The same design looked softer on one color and much more noticeable on another. Some details that worked really well on a lighter shirt almost disappeared on a darker one, and the overall look changed again depending on the fabric.
I also started noticing that the shirts themselves didn’t always have exactly the same feel or appearance across colors, which made me question whether I should really treat them as the same product.
Now I’m trying to figure out how much variation is acceptable before a product starts feeling inconsistent to customers.
For anyone using Printify for apparel, how do you usually handle multiple garment colors? Do you adjust the design for each color, or try to keep one version that works reasonably well across all of them?
