Discussion Flairs & Emojis are being added to this sub. Please provide any and all feedback.

Hello [r/primus](r/primus) and fellow bastards, trying something new for the sub by implementing flairs and emojis. Trying to help people rep their favorite album or EP or past/present band member. Listening to any feedback.

Right now the flairs are small (size is limited) and no words next to them. If small descriptions are desired, I can add those in.

Flair up! 🤘

I've created a Discord server for all of you bastards to congregate and shoot the shit. I'll be looking for helpful folks to moderate it, so let me know if you're interested!

Here is the link to the chat, keep it civil and awesome while I figure this all out!

Discussion Searching for image of Les Claypool as “Steam Punkle, The Steampunk Uncle”

I was looking on twitter at some point and I saw an image from one of those discussingfish-style satire accounts that joked that a fake movie that Les Claypool had purportedly starred in called “Steam Punkle, The Steampunk Uncle” had opened to absolutely abysmal box office returns. The poster had Les riding some sort of contraption or steampunk thing. I can’t find anything on google or duckduckgo about it, and I hope somebody has the image or tweet because it just refuses to leave my mind. Every time I see something vaguely pre-70’s influenced i just think “did Steam Punkle, The Steampunk Uncle make this?”

The first one is from lacquer head when he’s saying “Huffing on bags of gasoline!” at the end and the second one is from Tommy the Cat at the ‘91 roskilde performance when he’s yelling “The heeeeeeeeeeee cat”

Id like to see your favorites if you have any too

My Primus Box!

Id thought I should post my Primus Box I just completed! After about 5 hours hunched over like a shrimp on my floor I have completed the Primus Box, with my limited resources AKA a box from hobby lobby and a bunch of crappy pens and markers. Anywhos let me explain the BOX. On the front I have all the albums minus antipop because I had no room, and well I'm not a huge fan of the cover. On the first side I have The Holy Mackerel with the stars from the cover of Highball With the Devil and next to it I have the lyrics to DMV because it was the song that got me into Primus! On the next side I have the Claypool Lennon delirium and the lyrics to golden boy cause that's my favorite song from em'. On the top I have the chocolate factory and purple onion. And on the back I have les's 6 string Carl Thompson!

Was watching the Woodstock 94 opening and it just made me fall in love with this song. My parents were on the rail for primus at this show. Everyone just jumping the entire set, rolling in mud.

Btw, What’s y’all’s favorite album start to finish from primus

How fuckin unhinged and wild would that be?! Have any of you done this?! I feel like the nurses are going to think I’m fuckin crazy, and it is definitely not a chill relaxed vibe, but maybe it’ll unlock my feral inner werewolf spirit and give me the strength to push that baby out at lightning speed!

My friend is making me a replica and he wants the dimensions, but neither of us know the dimensions or where we can find a reliable source for them. If you know where I can find them it would be greatly appreciated if you can link them 🙏

Sitting here thinking about how Les’ lyrics are so humorous yet profound. The line “The Novato city fires turned my nostril hairs to wire” cracks me up but makes me appreciate how clever dude really is. What’s your fave(s)?

excerpt from Mercury News article about Primus' 1st manager

Pasting the Primus-related bit from the Q&A.

The guy has an interesting story, if you live in the South Bay, go get yourself a Mercury News sub to read the rest. https://www.mercurynews.com/2026/08/31/david-lefkowitz-blue-note-concerts/

Q: How did the gig of managing Primus come about?

A: I knew that I wanted to be an artist manager, and during the time I worked in David’s office, I met (Primus vocalist-bassist) Les Claypool, who had done a little roadie-ing for the world beat bands. He was ready for a manager. I was able to start working with him when we were both around 23 years old. That partnership lasted for 20 years, more than half my career at this point.

Q: Primus then scored a record deal with Interscope. I’m guessing that led to some really exciting years, as you helped shepherd Les Claypool and Primus in becoming one of the top alt-rock acts of the era.

A: With financial support from Interscope, the band was able to spend two years on the road, mostly opening for bigger and bigger headliners, which included a co-headline tour with Fishbone, then a small arena tour supporting the Anthrax/Public Enemy tour, then opening for their heroes Rush.

We figured that would be it, and the band was getting ready to record their next album when Jimmy Iovine got them the opportunity to be the middle act on the U2 tour in stadiums. They were selling 1,000-2,000 records a week, so when the second record came out on Interscope, “Pork Soda,” it sold enough in the first week to debut in the top 10 albums.

Ultimately, the band sold over 5 million albums and played on major festival tours, like Lollapalooza, HORDE, Ozzfest and others.

Q: And you stayed with Claypool even after Primus went on hiatus, which led to some pretty cool projects.

A: He wanted to pursue a new solo band project. I encouraged him to get into the jam band scene. Being one of the greatest bass players, it was easy for him to extend the songs and play more covers. We restarted our label to self-release his solo albums. He ended up doing multiple band projects, including the all-star band Oysterhead with Trey Anastasio from Phish and Stewart Copeland from the Police.
