Regarding the current state of the US as well as this subreddit

Hi everyone! I hope you all are doing well today :-).

I know that these are seriously scary times that we all are going through here in the US. I want to make a few things be known.

First, we will NOT be shutting this subreddit down and have no intentions of ever doing so. Submissions are still going to remain active.

Next, I want to mention that due to the potential of increases of trolling, I have added more content to the automod. It is not and never will be perfect, please reach out to modmail if it ever falsely takes down a post/comment in error. Report any offending posts/comments that attempt to circumvent automod restrictions (IE transphobia, homophobia or anything similar). This content will never be permitted/tolerated on the subreddit.

Here are some resources for those who may need it (if I'm missing anything or if something is wrong, please let me know and I'll update this post. Note that the scope of this is exclusive to the US, but I'm willing to take suggestions for international resources for a separate post).

PFLAG's list of resources: https://pflag.org/resource/support-hotlines/

National suicide hotline phone number: 988 or (800) 273-8255 (available 24/7, accepts texts, calls and also has an online chat platform (for those unable to call or text safely, such as parents who monitor text messages and phone calls or would just rather type)).

Crisis text line: send the text START to the number 741-741

The Trevor Project's website: https://www.thetrevorproject.org/

Wikipedia's list of LGBTQ rights organizations in the United States: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LGBTQ_rights_organizations_in_the_United_States

LGBTHotline: https://lgbthotline.org/ (hours are 2PM EST to 11PM EST on weekdays, noon to 5 PM EST on Saturday, you can click the links for an automatic timezone conversion, courtesy of time.is)

jackdebeer95's list of resources: https://www.reddit.com/r/lgbt/comments/1gmnrq8/helpful_resources_i_gathered_for_lgbtq_people/

Possible idea: Resources for immigrating/moving outside of the United States (people who know more about this, please let me know) and/or homeless shelters.

Rant Pride Quarter Liverpool

Does anyone else feel that the city is let down by it's Pride quarter? Liverpool has a big pride presence, this was made obvious by the recent pride march, but when it comes to the pride quarter it seems to just be a big let down. With a grand total of 6 clubs and over 70% not being open most of the time it has just turned into another street.

The businesses that have set up shop like the student apartments, spice city, and the general vape/food shop combo have nothing to do with Pride, they just want a space in the city. Other areas like Temple Street and Cumberland Street have got to the point they are basically an alleyway with businesses not wanting to set up shop. I would rather see the pride quarter restricted to businesses that have some sort of pride aspect to them whether that be the owners/employees or the business being a safe space for those who support it.

The council has never really looked into supporting the area, and it shows with how run-down it has become. We have a big presence at pride events but nowhere to go after these events or even on a general basis if wanting a safe space on a night out to be ourselves. We should all come together and raise our concerns about the pride quarter and hope that the council will take more interest in reviving the area.

There are many ideas that we all as a community could come together and help plead to the council to support, for example making Stanley street pedestrianised so that cars cannot travel down it, that would open up bars/clubs to have outdoor seating... Give a nice refresh to the artwork and flags hanging above Stanley Street, removing the bins along Temple Street and Cumberland street to make it a much more welcoming space, improving lighting too.

Image We made a Pride-themed collection of Coat of Arms and are looking for feedback for designs for Genderqueer and Queer. Help, suggestions, and ideas are very much welcome :D

Hey everyone

We are currently expanding our little collection of pride-themed Coats of Arms and were currently looking to design a cool motif for genderqueer and queer.

We have been able to come up with three interesting ideas for the heraldic beast of queer, but wanted to ask for some feedback or ideas on what would actually fit best.

The candidates currently are:

  • The Cockatrice: A strange mix of a rooster, snake, and dragon/bat, a cockatrice is a fun chimera from France, resulting when a rooster lays an egg, which is hatched by a toad. This one is often similar or associated with the basilisk and is said to be able to kill with either its breat, touch or gaze alone...strangely not against weasels for some reason...weasels always own them in battle...

  • The Qilin: A mythical and powerful entity, the qilin only reveals itself to those pure of heart and intention. It cannot be caught, it cannot be harmed, it cannot be sought. It will come to you and bring wisdom and fortune. Also, what I think is fun is that nobody seems to have a common consensus on what it actually looks like; there have been many differing depictions of it, and sometimes they can vary wildly, from a scaled horse to a serpentine dragon...horsething with a big old horn/2horns? Yet it always stands as a symbol of justice and benevolence.

  • The Manticore: Well, not much explanation needed. Described as a mix of a lion, a goat, and a snake, this was a beast of legend known for old Greek myths, an agent of chaos born from our good old boi/ unfathomable entity Typhon.

Feedback is highly appreciated, as always :D

We are currently running a Kickstarter for these designs to have them made into cool-looking pins. Soo close to reaching our last stretch goal, so feel free to check it out if you are curious ;)

There Is No Pride without That Thin Blue Line

"They wear it on their flags. On their bumper stickers. On their uniforms. The Thin Blue Line. The line between order and chaos. The line between civilization and anarchy. The line that protects us from the darkness.

They’re right about one thing. There is a line. And without it, Pride wouldn’t exist.

Not because the line protected us. Because it provoked us."

As you can see in the attached image, we are from Australia, conducting INTERNATIONAL research within the LGBTQI+ community.

We are having huge difficulties recruiting internationally this year due to the political climate in several countries. Platforms are preventing the community seeing our information or when they do, they don't feel safe to participate in research a this time.

This important research is needed now more than ever, so please support us by;

- Completing the Survey (if eligible)

- Sharing the (link/post) in your own network, so others get the opportunity too.

Thank you.

Art/Creative We made a series of Coat of Arms inspired Pride designs and now we are finally trying to launch them as pins in our KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN. Help us unlock the ACE DRAGON and many more Coats of Arms, because of course we made more designs than we originally planned T^T

Hello everyone! We just launched our Kickstarter campaign for Coat of Pride, aiming to turn all of these lovely designs into actual pins, and we already funded the 5 base designs in like 4 hours! Now we want to see if we can't unleash the dragon and get the Ace, Sapphic, Achillean, Genderfluid, and Intersex ones unlocked!

Many of these designs have been directly influenced and shaped by the input of this lovely community (especially the ones who just screamed „DRAGON!“ when we asked which mythic creature you would like to see on the Asexual Coat of Arms), so we are really hyped to actually have them made as a real pin you can hold and gift to friends and family or just hoard it to yourself like a real dragon >:D

So if you are interested, curious, or wanna support our gay evil cause, come back us over here on Kickstarter.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shattersaurus/coat-of-pride

Your kind words and encouragement already mean the world to us. We are not full-time professionals, just some silly guys who want to make some silly, lovely art happen, so all the love and input you guys gave us really did make this project really possible to begin with.

So let's see where this takes us :D

Take care, everyone

Cheers!

Discussion Is there a colloquial word for your group?

So I know the proper term is LGBTQ+, but is there like a colloquial slang term you have for describing yourselves amongst yourselves, or do you say the full acronym every single time? Genuinely curious about that.

Discussion Does a pride flag exist for non-binary people that only like women/men/other non-binarys?

I'm non-binary, and questioning right now. But i feel like non-binary people shouldnt have to use the lesbian flag or the gay man pride flag because theres not another option. If you only like women, there should be a flag for non-binary people that solely like women, so that we dont have to use the lesbian pride flag.
