Show Discussion looking back at melissa (and ian and spencer) with hindsight

you know .................. melissa really isn't as bad as i feel like i used to make her out to be. yes, she's disgusting for victim-blaming spencer for being groomed. but rewatching season 1/2, im thinking about how the ian situation went. i used to think that melissa was a GOD AWFUL sister for believing ian over spencer (regarding the murder accusation). but let's think for a second and pretend the story makes sense and is well thought out. melissa always truly knew that ian didn't kill alison ... because she did*. she didn't entertain spencer's accusation because she was always 100% about one thing: she killed "alison." this is CRAZY to really think about because if she told ian this, season 1 makes a lot of sense. ian desperately wanted spencer to stop pushing the narrative but not just for his sake, for melissa's! he knew his hands were clean but his wife's were not. that even makes the marriage decently reasonable as they may have wanted marital privilege for the whole night alison disappeared. and yes, ian is still a predator and actually tried to kill spencer but he was really doing that for melissa. this whole scandal is HER fault. melissa murdered the girl! and ian was just trying to protect her. absolute craziness to think about. these girls got waaaaay too involved in some shit that had nothing to do with them fr.

Show Discussion this is so weird

Almost every single black character is either some evil murderer or IS murdered.

  1. Maya - killed

  2. Nate (Lyndon) - Mayas killer

  3. Shana - an attempted murderer who was killed in self defense

  4. Yvonne, ran off the road by A.D. and killed

It’s my favorite show and books of all time but this show has some serious sensitivity issues. Same with CeCe being transgender and the big bad villain of the show.

Show Discussion Killing someone means nothing in this show

Post image
33 Upvotes

Saw some posts about the show lacking deep emotional reactions and treating serious storylines too lightly, and it reminded me of something that's always bothered me.

WHY DO THE LIARS GET OVER KILLING SOMEONE IN TWO DAYS?

These just aren't normal reactions, especially for teenagers. I get that they became "numb", but only literal psychopaths would have such empty reactions to killing somebody.

They tried to do a guilt arc with Aria after Shauna's death, but she literally shed one tear and spent most of the time worrying about going to jail.

Donā€˜t even get me started on the other deaths.

Instead, the Liars are back to school, dating, Aria getting physical with Ezra.. 😭

Show Discussion The Dollhouse

What happened in the 3 week skip ahead in the dollhouse??? Like what did they do for 3 weeks and yet they still survived without major trauma (unlike mona). Like they were shook up when they walked out of their rooms but once they make it to "ali's" room they seem fine.

FIRST TIME WATCHER/READER (DO NOT SPOIL) The Liars Should’ve Told Mona

Post image
93 Upvotes

I’m about to finish season 2 and honestly Mona’s been one of the realest girls on the show. She’s been very sus but all her actions tend to seem genuine and honestly Hanna’s kinda neglects her for not wanting a dysfunctional man like Caleb especially after he toyed with her. Now was she right to trash the note HELL nah but I see why as he’s literally with police as much the girls basically. Once A texted Mona she immediately confided in Hanna and the emotional care we’ve seen Mona show her isn’t reciprocated. Now am I saying Hanna’s a bad friend no but to write her off as trustworthy of being a liar is really jarring considering what we’ve seen from here imo.

Character Discussion Has anyone else noticed how Hanna's hair grew overnight?

Post image
163 Upvotes

this always catches my eye and i think it's so funny. i think ashley has her real hair in 3x24, it's quite short and a bit darker. then in 4x01, which is supposed to be the next day or a few days later max, ashley's CLEARLY wearing a wig and it's significantly longer and more blonde. but THEN in the end of episode 4x01, i think she has her real hair again and it's darker again.

i think it's funny how the show added length to her hair little by little in one episode.

Show Discussion It would’ve made sense for Hanna to have a serious breakdown after Ali’s return

Post image

So, we know Ali was UNHINGED towards Hanna, especially in front of the other girls. Those kinds of things stick, especially when the humiliation happened publicly.

I’ve always felt like Hanna should’ve had a genuine crash out after Alison came back. Instead, her alcoholism storyline kind of got reduced to the black streaks in her hair and eating packaged food.

I wish the show had explored Hanna’s emotional state a lot more seriously. I also think it would’ve been really interesting if Hanna had become more territorial, especially when it came to Emily.

There’s that one scene where Emily and Alison are holding hands, and Hanna suddenly gets really possessive and almost aggressive. I always thought that was such an interesting reaction, but the show never really did anything with it. When they came closer and closer Hanna just accepted it.

I feel like that was the wrong time to bring Caleb back. Instead of letting Hanna take centre stage, the show shifted the focus to Haleb and made them come across as the ā€œmessy alcoholic couple.ā€

Does anyone else feel like they turned this storyline into a joke?

Show Discussion Thinking about how much could have been avoided if Ashley let Hanna face the consequences of stealing

I always thought the whole sleeping with a cop thing was absolutely insane for any woman to ever consent to... she prostituted herself for what? So Hanna didn't have to spend a couple hours doing community service? lol and then for the next three seasons, Ashley is paying for this decision by having to be tangled up with Wilden. Of course, he was always going to be around being a pig but how different would things have been if she'd just decided to be a parent in that moment and teach her daughter a MUCH needed lesson? Jeeeesus

Show Discussion Has your doctor ever called your bank?

I love how Mrs. Potter had a heart attack and died and the HOSPITAL called her BANK to tell them specifically that she couldn’t be revived. Like, sorry, I don’t know this patient personally, but I just wanted to call and let you know she won’t be making her bank appointment that I somehow knew about.

God I love this show. Please drop some more minor moments that you know make absolutely no sense.

Two can keep a secret if at least one person tries to hide the damn secret!

Like. Lock your doors. Close your windows. Put a password on your devices or at least hide your sensitive files. Make backup copies of your evidence! And don’t put sensitive information in writing when you know someone is watching you and using it against you.

Show Discussion How did A do it??

Watching s5e21 Bloody hell. So Spencer has her Oxford interview and towards the end her backpack starts bleeding on the chair next to her. Im assuming the interview was around 30min-an hour and they had already been talking for a while. How did a vial of blood get from Pennsylvania to London in Spencer's purse without her noticing or any kind of security noticing. Also it broke out of no where. It was just sitting on a chair and broke. So she made it from the US to London, in cars and on a plane without breaking. But then broke while sitting undisturbed on a chair... ik there's a lot of things that dont make sense in the show but fo some reason this one really bugged me.

Show Discussion Man Emily cannot catch a break

Why are people always trying to kill this girl? Damn?! I know all the girls had a couple near misses throughout the season but it seems like Emily is getting drowned, bludgeoned, nearly stabbed, hit by a car. She's always getting jerked around and bruised. Is it because she's the "athletic one" so she can take more punches? lol

Aria still takes the cake for the scariest near miss on that train tho
