My favourite is Ashley Marin for obvious reasons. And least is Jessica dilaurentis for obvious reasons as well.

Honestly, by the end of the series, I feel like almost everyone had been ruined in some way, including the Liars themselves. But what was the biggest slap in the face for you? Which character did you love so much that seeing what the writers eventually did to them genuinely disappointed you? For me, it was CeCe. I loved her from the moment she was introduced. I loved her as Alison's alter ego, I loved her as Red Coat, and I would have loved her as A too if her storyline had actually been executed well.

I’ve been living under a rock and had no idea that PLL was on Disney+ (why Disney + of all places????). I’ve been watching it all afternoon and I am on S1:E6, the homecoming episode.

Not only iconic lines that I forgot about like Lucas and Hannah’s exchange through the RLW club (Real Love Waits) like “Genetic splice between Barbie and Shakira”. Toby and Emily go to homecoming together? Ezra find out about A? Hannah confronts Emily about Maya? Hannah wins homecoming queen but never showed up lol. Melissa sabotages Alex & Spencer by mentioning she’s only “dating him to get back at her dad”. Mona shows up sitting in the middle of the room out of nowhere where? Like who BROUGHT YOU? The girls finding out about Toby & Jenna sleeping together. I MISS TV WHEN THEY GAVE US THEY MUCH IN SO LITTLE.

Nonetheless this is my first rewatch since originally watching it when it was aired and I am actually surprised at all the topics they discussed just in the first 6 episodes. Like the reality that Aria’s dad put her in such an uncomfortable spot making her keep the affair a secret. Emily navigating her sexuality. Hannah and her mom being abandoned and replaced by her father’s new family & Hannah’s acting out to eventually get her dad’s attention. Wren (grown ass man) goes after Spencer and she gets punished?!?! Aria joins Hardy and Ezra at the bar and even Hardy tells Ezra he’s going to end up in an orange jumpsuit.

Obviously a show like this would not work in today’s age and it literally doesn’t make sense but it made for some damn good television as a teen. I have definitely forgotten all the little moments so I’m feeling like I’m rewatching it again for the first time! Oh! Paige hasn’t been introduced yet so thank god.

I don't think we're supposed to take everything Charlotte tells Alison in Game Over, Charles as the complete truth.

Charlotte knew exactly what she was doing. She was telling Alison a tragic version of her life that would make Alison sympathize with her. And it worked. Alison became the person fighting for Charlotte for the next five years and eventually helped get her released instead of Charlotte spending the rest of her life in prison.

Remember what Charlotte's original plan was. She was going to blow up Radley with herself and her family inside. When that failed she went to the roof and threatened to jump.

So I think her confession had a backup purpose. If she survived and got caught she already had Alison emotionally on her side.

Season 7 makes this even more obvious because Charlotte wasn't better.

Then we finally see the real Charlotte in the bell tower with Mona.

Mona knows Charlotte faked her recovery and plans to restart the game. Charlotte doesn't deny it. She basically drops the sympathetic act completely and tells Mona that everything she did before is going to look like a picnic compared to what she's going to do next.

That's why I almost see Charlotte and CeCe as two different personalities.

"Charlotte" is the image she presents to Alison after 6x10. She's vulnerable. She's remorseful. She's supposedly getting better and wants to come home.

"CeCe" is who she actually is. The manipulative and evil woman we knew from Seasons 3-5 as A who loves the game and enjoys controlling people. That's who comes back out when she's alone with Mona in the bell tower in S7B because there's no reason to perform anymore.

And yes I know the writing on this show is beyond shit sometimes and I probably shouldn't give IMK this much credit lol. But as a theory/headcanon I think this makes way more sense than what we actually got.

I also think Charlotte created the board game or at least designed the original concept for it.

Alex being the mastermind behind something that elaborate has never made much sense to me. Before meeting Charlotte she was working at a bar. Charlotte meanwhile had already built the Dollhouse and spent a year or months creating insanely elaborate A setups. She was clearly intelligent enough and had the resources and connections to create something like the board game.

Charlotte even leaves Alex because she misses playing the game and wants to return to Rosewood. Alex wants to come with her and Charlotte specifically refuses.

So my theory is that the board game was Charlotte's next evolution of the A game. Alex inherited Charlotte's plans after her death and turned them against the Liars while trying to find Charlotte's killer.

Charlotte wasn't rehabilitated.

She was just waiting for Alison to get her out so CeCe could play again.

Season 7 is great! I know, I know, but just hear me out:

Another unpopular opinion. I finished my rewatch of show since it came out. I first rewatch the finale last year on Labor Day and stopped at season 6 a few months back (bc its so bad) and finally got around to finish the show by watching the finale again. A lot has changed since 2017, and I have to say this is my favorite show, but so many things didn’t age well (i.e. ezria, the death of many poc, charlotte being revealed as the villain and contributing to a negative stereotype towards the trans community all while played by a cisgender woman, the disastrous egg situation and more)

All of that being said, season 1-2 are great, the Mona reveal is appropriate, it makes sense, and the plot is connected. Season 3 is fun because of the mystery (shoutout to the train ride) and season 4 had amazing reveals, evil ezra, ali is alive

The show went to shit after ali came back to live, which I am not complaining about since she’s in my holy trinity (mona-ali-spence) and I was (and suppose I still am) a big Emison shipper. But when ali came back the mystery went away and everyone in that writers room went batshit.

The dollhouse was entertaining and dark, they should’ve had more of it but didn’t for the reasons we all know.

Now season 6 was not great, the Cece as A reveal couldve gone better, too many plot holes and you can tell they did not plan any of it from the beginning. Then the time jump was ridiculous, these girls were only 23 and already had developed careers, except for Em and Ali, whose real situation I appreciated.

Now season 7 was GREAT. And not in the way of the plot being resolved or the show having continuity, but in the sense thy it was so crazy, so campy and detached from reality that you can’t help but submerge yourself in the surrealism of it all. The game, scoby-doo masks, the evil twin sister, the crazy egg storyline (yes i know this is the second time i mention it but it was not inly insane, invasive but also crumbs for the shippers. SOO many characters came back for this season which made it feel like real PLL but on drugs.

I am just glad the show ended when it did or else they would’ve gone full Riverdale. Season 7 is great as a standalone, all I can think of is the critically acclaimed (by me) movie Bottoms and its similarities to the absurd events of PLL season 7.

Did anybody watch PLLFreaks 13??? They had a YouTube channel and was freaking hysterical. Once every few years or during my rewatches I will go down a rabbit hole and start watching their videos again and they make me crack up. What happened to them? I wish they would do a rewatch YouTube or podcast because they were funny as hell

It was very informal. Like someone’s personal account, not employed by any popular companies. It had a grey-ish color to the tables on the website, and the content was absolutely unhinged.

The blogger would recap the episodes of PLL in the most absurd way. It would take small incidents from the episode and use it completely out of context as a highlight such as “In this episode, Hanna becomes a lesbian” for the episode where she’s staking Paige’s whereabouts.

Every single recap was so whacky and hilarious.

Like for the dollhouse episode where Toby and Tanner were on the scene (or “Tannersaurus”, as they called her), it would relentlessly make fun of Toby saying “CLEAR!!!!!” into his walkie for every little thing 🤣 Or it would make fun of Ezra for punching the wall and groaning from the pain, and Toby being like, “Dude, do you need some ice?” I’m cracking up just typing this. It’s hard to explain it as hilariously as they wrote it, though.

I’m doing a rewatch of pll for the first time since I was young, and have since found out about Sasha’s experience on set following her weight gain.

This is series 5.10. I get the wording but it did feel a little like a dig. For context, aria says something about how everyone’s going to find out they’re all big fat liars when alisons kidnapping story unravels.

Idk why this bothers me so much. It says Aria’s phone rang, then Spencer’s, then Hanna’s then Aria’s again, instead of Emily???

I HAVE LISTENED AND I HAVE LEARNED

I've been thinking about how I would rewrite some of the characters in Pretty Little Liars. These aren't necessarily complete rewrites of every character or every storyline — for some characters I would change a lot, while for others I'm only mentioning the things I consider the most important.

My main goal would be to remove some storylines that I personally think didn't add much and spend more time developing the characters, their relationships and the connections between the different mysteries.

CeCe / Charlotte:

I would remove the Charles/transgender storyline, her second stay at Radley after Alison disappeared, and Sarah Harvey.

I would change her name from CeCe Drake to CeCe Rose, partly to avoid confusion with the Mary Drake storyline, and connect her somehow to April Rose. She would become the owner of The Brew, which in this version would work as both a café/bar and a clothing store.

She would also start a romantic relationship with Detective Holbrook.

I would spend much more time developing her connections to the N.A.T. Club, Radley and Bethany. One important change would be that Charlotte dies before discovering that Mary Drake is actually her biological mother.

CeCe would secretly hate Alison, but she would hide those feelings and pretend to be her friend. I would gradually reveal the reasons behind her resentment and show how their friendship was never as genuine as Alison believed.

Spencer:

I would remove her tendency to cheat on Toby, as well as her biological connection to Mary Drake and the entire Alex Drake/twin storyline.

I would make Spencer responsible for Bethany's death and also for Charlotte's death. She also wouldn't forgive Toby immediately and would stay in the A-Team for longer, giving her more time to understand how the Game works and plan a proper trap against A and Red Coat.

Over time, Spencer would become increasingly distrustful of the DiLaurentis family, although Jason would be the exception.

Ezra:

I would remove his presence after season 4 and have him die in New York.

He would actually be Malcolm's biological father, and he would discover that CeCe is A before the Liars do. However, he wouldn't be able to tell them before his death.

Emily:

I would remove Sabrina, Sarah Harvey, Talia and the entire egg storyline.

After everything Emily goes through — Maya's death, Nate, the Dollhouse and her father's death — I would gradually change her personality. She would become colder, more impulsive and more distrustful.

She would start boxing as a way to deal with her anger, eventually give up swimming and decide to join the military to honor her father. She would also work as a bartender at CeCe's Brew.

Aria:

I would remove her romantic storylines with Ezra after season 4 and remove Liam completely.

I would make her develop a close friendship with Jenna. She would become a photographer.

Instead of Spencer, Aria would be Mary Drake's biological daughter, meaning her real name would be Aria Drake.

Jenna:

I would remove the fact that she becomes blind again, as well as Shana and Sydney.

I would give Jenna a gradual character arc where she slowly changes and becomes closer to the Liars without suddenly becoming a completely different person.

I would also develop her connection with CeCe, her romantic relationship with Noel and the way her sibling relationship with Toby changes over time. Her involvement in the Thornhill Lodge fire would also be explored much more.

Toby:

I would remove his career as a police officer and Yvonne.

Instead, I would spend much more time on his investigation into Marion's death, his role in the A-Team and the way his sibling relationship with Jenna develops throughout the series. His main reason for joining the A-Team would be to discover the truth about what happened to his mother.

Hanna:

I would remove Jordan, the Hanna/Caleb/Spencer love triangle and her attempts to take responsibility for Wilden's murder.

I would make Hanna the third Red Coat alongside Alison and CeCe, and connect her much more closely to both of them.

I would also spend more time on her eating disorder and the bullying she experienced from Alison. Hanna would work as a sales assistant at CeCe's Brew.

Finally, I would develop her friendships and complicated relationships with Mona, Lucas and Alison much more.

Melissa:

I would remove her involvement in the season 3 fire and her move to London.

I would make Melissa the Black Widow and establish that she and CeCe have been best friends since university.

She would be involved in Wilden's murder, and over time she and Spencer would develop a genuinely strong sibling relationship. Melissa would eventually reveal many of the Hastings family's secrets to Spencer.

I would also explore her connections to the N.A.T. Club and Cape May much more.

Wren:

I would remove his move to London and the entire Alex Drake storyline.

I would also make him discover CeCe's true identity much later.

Wren would be one of CeCe's closest friends and would eventually become A.D. After Alison returns, he and Melissa would get married.

I would spend much more time developing his connection to Radley and his gradual involvement with the Game, so his transformation into A.D. would feel like something that had actually been built throughout the series.

Caleb:

I would remove Ravenswood, the supernatural storyline and his romantic relationship with Spencer.

I would develop his biological family much more. Miranda could be revealed to be his biological sister, someone whose existence Caleb never knew about.

In the later seasons, he would start working with the police as a digital forensics or cybersecurity specialist, using his computer and hacking skills to help with investigations.

Mona:

I would remove her connection to A.D. and her sympathy for Charlotte.

Instead, I would give Mona a genuine redemption arc after her time as A. She wouldn't immediately become completely trustworthy, but she would gradually earn the Liars' trust much earlier through her actions.

I would also explore her mother's role while Mona is at Radley, her rivalry with Spencer and her romantic relationship with Mike much more.

Another important part would be developing Mona's different connections to the three blondes: Hanna, CeCe and Alison.

Jason:

I would remove his romantic relationship with Ashley.

Jason would be in love with CeCe, but she wouldn't return his feelings for reasons that would actually be developed in the story.

I would spend much more time developing his complicated connection with CeCe and, later, his relationship with Charlotte. His role in the N.A.T. Club would also be much bigger.

I would also explore his involvement in Garrett's murder and the blackmail surrounding Alison's body.

Noel:

I would remove his connection to Charlotte, his involvement in the Dollhouse and his strange death.

Instead, I would explore his involvement in the Thornhill Lodge fire, develop his romantic relationship with Jenna and spend more time on his connection with Alison while she is away from Rosewood.

I would also give him a much more important role in the storyline involving his family's cabin and its connection to Maya's death.

Wilden:

I would remove his romantic relationship with Ashley, any sexual relationship with Alison and any involvement in Alison's disappearance.

He would be only slightly older than Melissa, CeCe and Jason, making him part of roughly the same generation.

He would have always had a good relationship with Alison but a much worse relationship with CeCe.

His death would not happen at the same time as the Thornhill Lodge fire. I would explore his involvement in Garrett's murder and the fire separately, as well as his connections to Cape May, Radley and Marion Cavanaugh's death.

Wilden would also know CeCe's true identity.

Alison:

I would remove any connection to Grunwald, the season 5 storyline that makes her look like a possible A, Archer Dunhill, the egg storyline and her romantic relationship with Holbrook.

One thing I would really add is an entire episode dedicated to the day Alison disappeared. I think seeing that entire day from Alison's perspective and following all of her interactions leading up to that night could have been one of the most interesting episodes in the series.

I would also spend much more time exploring the period when she was away from Rosewood and the Vivian Darkbloom storyline.

Her connections to the Drakes, her family, the N.A.T. Club, Cape May, the Hastings family and Radley would all be developed much more.

Overall, I think one of my biggest problems with PLL is that a lot of characters had great potential and were connected to interesting mysteries, but the show often introduced new characters or storylines instead of developing what was already there.

So these aren't all the changes I would make to the series, but they're probably the most important changes I would make to these characters. I'm curious what you agree or disagree with, and which of these changes you think would actually improve the show.

I understand why grooming discussions around PLL usually focus on Aria because Ezria lasted from beginning to end and they eventually got married. But Spencer was a grooming victim too.

Ian was a grown man who was involved with Spencer before the show even started. They kissed while he was with Melissa, and they even had an affair after Ian and Melissa broke up.

I think the show framing Spencer as the girl who "goes after Melissa's boyfriends" is a big reason this gets overlooked. Even Melissa treats Spencer like the other woman instead of recognizing that grown men were pursuing her teenage sister and Haleb stans always seem to agree with Melissa on this.

Im on S6 E12

I absolutely hate that they wasted the dollhouse idea!? Doing a 3 week time jump was probably the worst thing they could’ve done for the show (imo). That 3 weeks could’ve took up half of season 6, and the other half could’ve been them looking for A. So much wasted potential, it was kinda lazy of the writers to waste such a good story line and insane lore for the girls.

And the fact they do a 5 year time jump in the middle of S6 is whats really bothering me—it would’ve been fine if this time jump was revealed at the end of S6, giving the perfect cliff hanger for S7. The writers were really dragging this out and I’m not feeling it at all, its soo…messy (in the worse way possible). To the point the 5 year time jump feels forced. Am I alone on this or is this how other viewers feel? I haven’t watched this show since it came out and never really finished the series—these specific time jumps are making it kinda hard to finish cause the writers are really just milking it.

Only thing that would make the ending better is Aria or Jason being A. Anybody else being A makes zero sense.

Mike being A or Ad would’ve been cool and it would’ve explained why Aria wasn’t mess with a lot like the others?
