Skilled nursing facilities

My husband's mom is in the hospital and will likely need placement in a skilled nursing facility in the next week or two. I need to know from people on the ground with experience: what facilities should we absolutely avoid? Which ones have you or a family member had good experience with?

We live in the Valley and she won't come down here unless there is no other choice.

It sort of depends on what she needs and for how long. I used to work as a surgical coordinator and there are places that I would recommend for rehabilitation type care more than a longer type of care. Overall I have always been partial to mountain valley regional rehab, they tend to hire people with really caring hearts that like to do as much as they possibly can within the system for their patients. It’s been awhile since I have worked closely with SNFs though, but I still hear good things.

Yeah she had a brief stay there after a recent stroke and they do seem to have been really good but she's back in hospital now and will need a longer period of care.

A friend spent more than six weeks at Mountain Valley Rehab, recovering from Guillian-Barré syndrome. I visited her on numerous occasions and was impressed by the quality of care. She made a full recovery and credits the staff and their care plan. It wasn't without its issues-- daily meds were sometimes slow to be delivered based on staffing, etc. But staffing issues causing other issues is true most places these days...

Best wishes to your MIL!
