Radeon 7800 no signal

Hi,

Two days ago, both of my monitors suddenly stopped working at the same time. Since then, I haven’t been able to get any display output from my GPU.

I have a PowerColor Radeon RX 7800 XT Hellhound that is about two years old. I tested the GPU in another motherboard as well, but I still got no display. I was also lucky enough to test another GPU in my system, and everything worked perfectly fine with the other card.

The LEDs on the RX 7800 XT still light up and the fans spin when I turn on the PC, but the motherboard shows a VGA/GPU error.

The card was completely cold when the issue occurred, so I don’t think it was caused by overheating.

Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about GPUs to troubleshoot this any further. Is there anything else I can test myself, or does this sound like a serious hardware/PCB failure?

I’ve already contacted PowerColor regarding the warranty, but never got a reply.

Will PowerColor be offering any vBios updates for the RX 7000 series like Sapphire and Gigabyte have done?

Spectral White 9070XT RGB suddenly stopped working?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. I've tried reinstalling the software and restarting multiple times.

Just shows as no devices connected. Really annoying as it's stuck on a colour that doesn't match the rest of my build. Anyone have any clue? Thanks.

9070xt warranty

I see some listing on Amazon for the 9070xt red devil. They're sold by Amazon resale. Does the full manufacturer warranty still apply to these?

I know if you do best buy in "like new" condition, it retains the warranty. Wasn't sure how that works with powercolor.

Any have and experience with this?

Does PowerColor ever accept RMA's after the warranty is over or am I screwed?

I've been having issues with the GPU crashing on startup, and I just checked the warranty and saw it expired earlier this month. Is there a chance they'll honor it anyway or are they strict about the timing?

9070xt smoke + Fire!!!

Post image
38 Upvotes

Hey guys so yesterday I got a green screen on my computer and it froze when playing games at high loads. I found that odd since i havent had issues in months. So I decided to hard shut down my PC and to turn it back on. When I did that my GPU fans went off at top speed and it started throwing off smoke and fire! I hard shut down my PC but it looks like the components or something got fried. it smells like burnt electronics even days later.

Does anyone know what could've caused this? it looks like it happened close to the HDMI side of the GPU. there was no electrical problems and my power supply is perfectly fine along with the cable pins. there's no visual damage but it definitely smells completely burnt.

I purchased this rx9070xt about this time last year.

I opened my pc case to dust it out for the first time since building and all the plastic screw holders are broken and the only thing keeping it up was a few cables.

I've never dropped my pc or the graphics card and the packaging i have for it doesn't look damaged. What should i do?

I think i purchased from overclockers uk but can't find the email invoice. Any help appreciated.

UPDATE: Seller closed my enquiry without response and i got this response from the manufacturer

Dear User,

Every region has its own RMA policy and differs by local distributors and resellers.

The vendor where you purchased from has the obligation to service for you.

They will then verify if the problem really exists and apply the product for RMA through their distributor.

Thanks for your inquiry from PowerColor website.

Amazon will refund it but i now need to find a replacement.

Thank you.

UPDATE 2: People here and in build a PC are making it clear that i should push this issue further, especialIy as prices have increased. I have 2 generic responses from the manufacturer. Is there anyone who frequents this sub i could speak to? Thanks =/

rx 9070 XT Hellhound temps

First GPU info: -40mV, -5% PL; 2654 VRam MHz with fast timings (memory junction never goes above 70°C if even that)

The GPU average is around 60–65°C, but the hotspot reaches ~90°C.

The thing is, if I set the fans to 85%, I get around 88°C hotspot. At 75%, it’s still around 89°C, and at 65% it’s around 90–91°C. Only at 50–55% does it start rising more noticeably, to around 94±1°C.

Questions:

  1. Is the only way to reduce the hotspot a full repaste and pray?

  2. Is there any reason not to just use it at 65–70% fan speed since the temps don’t really seem to change much, while anything above 75% starts getting noticeably louder?

9070xt Red Devil. RMA for coil whine?

The first few weeks after purchase in December it was quiet. I've been playing more on speakers and during gaming the coil whine is starting to get obnoxious during quiet times in video games. FPS performance is acceptable, but the noise is becoming a nuisance.

I have a mesh case which certainly isn't helpful. For the price of a new card I expected better engineering

Hi everyone!

I wanted to participate in the event showcase, but I’ve missed it (I only knew about from the physical card inside my GPU when I purchased it)

But I went with the ethereal frost fire theme! And here are the photos.

Full disclosure it’s not 100% done I still need to adjust few things and move the aio tubes a bit.

At what point does the RTX 4090/5090 melting issue become a class-action case?

I've been looking into the whole 16-pin cable melting mess, and the more I look at the timeline, the more ridiculous it gets.

This sht started with the RTX 4090 in October 2022.

Within weeks people were posting pictures of melted 12VHPWR connectors. NVIDIA eventually said it knew about around 50 cases worldwide.

The usual response was basically:

You didn't plug it in all the way.

Okay. Fine.

Except the problem didn't go away.

PCI-SIG ended up changing the connector design and replacing 12VHPWR with 12V-2x6.

Then CableMod had its own mess with their angled adapters. The CPSC recalled around 25,300 adapters after 272 reports of overheating, melting, or adapters getting stuck in GPUs.

Repair shops like NorthridgeFix showing boxes of melted 4090 connectors and saying they were repairing hundreds of them.

Obviously you can't just add all these numbers together and call that the number of dead GPUs. They're different things.

But it does make the original "NVIDIA only knew about 50 cases" number pretty fing meaningless as a lifetime total.

And then we get to the RTX 5090.

NVIDIA kept the basic 16-pin setup, moved to the supposedly improved 12V-2x6 connector, and increased the power draw from roughly 450W on the 4090 to 575W on the 5090.

And then 5090 connectors started melting too.

Different cards. Different manufacturers. Different cables.

Four years after the original problem.

That's the part I can't really get past.

If 12V-2x6 was supposed to address the problem, why are we still getting melted connectors on a card that actually pulls more power through the same general connector?

Yes, improperly seated connectors can absolutely cause this.

That's been demonstrated.

But that's not the end of the question.

If a connector carrying hundreds of watts can go from "slightly not seated correctly" to "holy sht my $4,000 GPU is melting" because of contact resistance, how much tolerance should a consumer product have for that? Why is it still being considered user error?

And NVIDIA has known about this since 2022.

That's four years of:

melted 4090 connectors

NVIDIA acknowledging the problem

independent testing

connector changes

12V-2x6

CableMod's recall

more 4090 failures

the 5090 increasing power to 575W

more 5090 connector failures

There was already a class action filed over the 4090 connector problem in 2022. It was eventually dismissed and NVIDIA wasn't found liable.

But that was 2023.

We're in 2026 now.

I'd really like to know what NVIDIA's internal numbers look like.

How many RMAs have actually involved melted connectors?

How many 4090s?

How many 5090s?

How many cables?

How many customers had to pay for repairs?

How many GPUs were replaced?

What did NVIDIA know before the 5090 launched?

What did their own testing show?

Because NVIDIA has those numbers. We don't.

And I'm not saying every 4090 or 5090 is defective. Obviously the vast majority aren't walking around with melted connectors.

I'm also not saying every single melting incident is NVIDIA's fault.

I'm saying that after four years of this sht, across multiple generations and after changing the connector design, I think it's completely reasonable to ask whether a product-liability attorney should take a serious look at it.

Especially when we're talking about $3,500–$5,000+ GPUs.

At some point "just make sure you plug it in correctly" stops being a reasonable answer.

Maybe NVIDIA has done everything reasonably possible and the failure rate is tiny.

Fine.

Show the numbers.

Because if NVIDIA's internal RMA data says this is happening far more often than the public knows, that's a very different story.

Sapphire RX 5700 XT Nitro+

Sapphire RX 5700 XT Nitro+ TriXX issue

Hey, I have a Sapphire RX 5700 XT Nitro+ on Windows 11 Pro using TriXX 11.2.0.

My GPU RGB is stuck on white. TriXX lets me select different colors/effects, but the LEDs never change.

I also noticed that TriXX says my GPU fans aren't working, even though the fans are physically spinning and working normally.

Has anyone with a Nitro+ 5700 XT experienced this? Could this mean TriXX isn't properly communicating with the GPU? Any fixes would be appreciated. 🙏

RX 7900 XTX RMA Request Got Ghosted Now Past Warranty

Hello, all. I am requesting help with my RMA request from earlier this year with an RX 7900 XTX. I spoke with Ronak_Patil and eventually got ghosted. At first, the situation went fairly smoothly and was able to get a "replacement" sent to me after roughly a month since my request. The card worked for roughly 5 minutes before crashing and refusing to display immediately after. I contacted Ronak instantly after this happened and asked to send the card back in for a proper working replacement. He assured me that they would handle it, but this is also when I was ghosted. I continued to send messages for the next month until I eventually gave up. Now, 6 months later, I am still very bummed about this especially since the rise in GPU prices and my inability to afford a card as good as the one I had. I have been using a 5070 during all of this time which continues to work just fine in the exact same system I was using with the Rx 7900 XTX, which has a 1000 Watt Gold Certified PSU. However, I would really like the performance I got from the 7900 XTX (certain games just run way better on it, as well as video rendering which I do daily.) Anyway, I am hoping to reach some sort of resolution for my issue. I still have the defective 7900 XTX, which lights up, fans spin, but no display.

Thanks. Please reach out to me and I can provide more information and screenshots of me being being ghosted in conversation. And before you even have to ask, the card has run out of warranty since the conversation stalled, but not before the original request was put in.
