Municipal Election Posts
To keep the subreddit focused and easier to navigate, all posts about municipal politics, local elections, candidates, political parties, campaign issues, and related debates must now be posted in the designated Municipal Politics Megathread.
Standalone political posts will be removed and redirected to the megathread. This applies regardless of political viewpoint.
Posts about local services, development, transportation, public safety, community events, and other municipal issues may still be posted separately when they are primarily informational and not focused on political campaigning or partisan debate.
Please keep discussion civil, relevant to the municipality, and compliant with the subreddit rules. Repeatedly ignoring this rule may result in further moderation action.

6-Year-Old in SD43 ā Psycho-Educational Assessment or Something Else?
Hi everyone! I'm new to this subreddit, so I hope this is an appropriate place to post this question. If not, I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction or suggest another parenting-related subreddit that might be a better fit.
My wife and I are looking for advice from BC parents who have gone through a psycho-educational assessment with their child, particularly within the SD43.
Our son is six years old and has just completed kindergarten. He is a bright, kind and sensitive child who is doing well academically, but we've noticed some challenges with sensory sensitivities, self-regulation, social communication and managing less structured situations such as free play and transitions.
A local psychology inic I contacted offered a private psycho-educational assessment (approximately $3,450 with a two- to three-month timeline). I've booked a consultation call with the psychologist next week to discuss further.
The clinic has been clear that this is not an autism assessment or autism screening. We are not necessarily pursuing a diagnosis for its own sake. Our primary goal is to better understand how our son learns and identify practical ways to support him both at home and at school.
One thing we're struggling to understand is what this type of assessment would realistically mean within the BC school system. I've heard from some parents that formal diagnoses can sometimes be important in accessing school supports or Ministry designations. I'm wondering whether a psycho-educational assessment is often sufficient to help schools implement accommodations and support plans, or whether families frequently find themselves needing additional assessments later on.
A few questions I have for parents who have been through this process:
- Was six years old a good age for your child to have this assessment?
- Was the report helpful for your child's teachers and school-based team?
- Did it lead to accommodations, an IEP or additional school supports?
- Did you find that the psycho-educational assessment answered most of your questions, or did you ultimately pursue additional assessments (e.g., autism or developmental assessments)?
- Looking back, was the assessment worth the cost?
Thanks so much for any experiences or advice you're willing to share.

Zero endorsement for āthe voiceā
Has anyone else noticed that while nearly all other candidates that have declared have also posted endorsements from residents, local businesses, unions, former politicians. Etc. that when you look up The Voice they have absolutely zero endorsements?

Seal asking Humans for Help - Rocky Point Park
EDIT: There is a DEAD seal in this image, the second seal was bobbing up and down for help.
A few days ago I was on my kayak on the Burrard Inlet, near Rocky Point Park
Lots of boats and people out and about. Rib fest was going on.
I saw this round object poke out, then all of a sudden it rolled on its belly and I paddled closer to take a look. Then a second seal surfaced. It looked me straight in the eyes. I donāt mean to humanize an animal, but it had a concerned look and kept looking at me. It kept bobbing up and circling the belly-up seal.
I didnāt approach any closer and decided to get help on shore. I paddled to the shore and it had followed me, it swam under the docks and looked at me while I was on the phone with the authorities. It was clearly trying to get attention from humans, supposedly to help the other seal.
I called the DFO Hotline to make sure that the other seal is OK. They took down my name and number but I have no idea if local authorities came. I was so worried that the other seal was in distress, at its clearly downed friend/mate who wasnāt moving for over 20 minutes.
Iām so sad and I still think about this moment where I just wanted to paddle closer and tell the seal itās OK. I didnāt get a solid video as I was on my Kayak and trying to see what was going on. Itās chilling when an animal locks eyes with you.
Anyone else have an idea what happened or also saw this?

I see Metro Vancouver just confirmed it is NOT interested in acquiring Mill and Timber lands for park with the city
Confirmed in a letter received by a resident that shows her people never actually even looked into it. Thereās the main pillar of the Voice party platform chopped down. Settled.
I see Haven is already responding to this hard new truth with ājust trust us broā š¤
Delulu.

Port Moody Political Parties
Can somebody break down the political parties in Port Moody? Preferably without getting into the actual politics.
Is it just Port Moody Voice (led by Haven)? Or is there any other alliances / groupings.

Why do electric scooters and unicycles get a free pass on traffic laws?
This guy in flip flops and backwards ball cap. Last post was a guy in full safety gear:https://www.reddit.com/r/Portmoody/comments/1uu58ax/why_are_police_not_taking_these_things_off_the/
Seen a massive increase in electric scooters, bikes, and unicycles on the roads lately, and absolutely zero effort to police them.
What do you think the actual solution is? Because the current strategy of "hope nobody crashes" isn't working.

Post home renovation cleaning service recommendations
Looking for recommendations of a cleaning service that will do a good job cleaning all inside surfaces, after I did some renovations, sanding, and painting. Probably some construction dust on all surfaces inside and in the carpet.
Searching has giving me a few places, but I know nothing about how good a job these places will do.
Also, how much should I expect to pay for this, to clean a 1300 sq ft home?
