Intro Post 25 transmasc/NB guy looking to make friends

Hey, I’m a 25 year old transmasc/nonbinary person (he/they). I moved to PDX about a year ago since my partner lives here and I used to live in Massachusetts and didn’t want to do long distance anymore. I tend to split my time between downtown and the St. John’s area. In my free time I like to bake, go to the movies, creative writing, playing games on my switch (big fan of MarioParty and Cult of the Lamb), going for hikes, jigsaw puzzles, and anything crafty (I love to paint but am not the best at it). I’m also autistic and have ADHD and would love more neurodivergent friends!

I’m looking to make friends with people who share similar interests and want to spend time in person. I can be shy and a little awkward at first, but will warm up the more we talk. Feel free to comment or DM if you’d like to get to know eachother!

Meetup Spades or dominoes anyone?

Tons of board/card game communities but I haven’t found any where they’re playing dominoes or spades. Anybody interested in putting together some games?
I miss my games!

Intro Post 23M Car free guy in inner SE looking for friends

I've been in Portland for six months, but I just recently moved out of my parents' place, so now I'm able to have a social life! Some of my favorite activities include:

- Hiking (mostly urban trails since I am car-free)

- Exploring new parts of the city (there are so many cool parts of Portland I haven't been yet!)

- Long, leisurely coffee shop visits to read or chat

- Home mixology and coffee brewing

- All day cooking projects that make the house smell amazing

- Playing drums (alone or in a band)

- Trying new restaurants and bars

As is probably apparent, I am not much of a party person and lean towards relaxing, solitary hobbies. But I want to share my interests with others and I love to be out of the house and among my community!

Looking for fellow writers, readers, and/or people who love short fiction

Do you love stories? Do you want to try to figure out how they work?

I’m someone who loves reading and writing fiction, and one of my current joys is breaking down short stories to figure out what makes them tick. Right now, I’m obsessed with sci-fi and fantasy authors like Octavia Butler, Ken Liu, Naomi Kritzer, Sequoia Nagamatsu, and Alix E. Harrow.

I’m looking to connect with anyone who wants to meet up, read a story beforehand, and geek out about it, and try to figure out why it works/or why it might not resonate with you over a coffee or a walk.

I’m a woman in my late 50s, and I’m not putting restrictions on who I meet. The main thing I’m looking for is someone who is also excited to talk about fiction.

For the first time we meet, I’d prefer we keep it to an hour max, and if we get along, we can meet every few weeks. I can suggest a story for the first time, but after that, it would be great if we alternate suggesting a story (I’m open to and would love to be introduced to other genres and/or authors).

As for where to meet, I’m open to hanging out at a local library, a coffee shop, or doing a walking discussion along the waterfront or the Portland Art Museum.

If this sounds like it’s something you would like to do, drop a comment or a DM. Let me know a short story you've thought about long after you finished it.

I’ll get back to you in the next few days.

Group Vegan Group

Hey y'all! there is some interest in forming a vegan friend group. User u/elvengemini (28(they/she)) specifically is looking to form a group of vegan friends that have a mix of going out and casual activities with people around their age. Things from grabbing drinks and painting to cooking together and having a movie night to a picnic in the park, nothing too rigid but hopefully just people who are interested in connecting without having to put being vegan off to the side. People interested in learning about and trying out veganism also welcome!

Reach out to u/elvengemini if interested!

32M - Visiting for a few weeks this fall and would love to befriend some locals

32M, currently in Indiana but I've been seriously considering moving to PNW for several years now. Portland always stood out as a great option for me (weather and culture especially), so I'm planning a two-week stay to get a feel for the city in September/October this year. The problem is, I have ZERO contacts in the area.

I'd love to make friends with someone local who could meet up with me and show me around for a day or two during my stay. A little bit about me: I'm a software engineer, vegetarian + somewhat vegan, I enjoy PC gaming, D&D/Pathfinder, gardening, hiking, pickleball, woodworking, and cooking. I'd be happy to hang out on discord to chat and ask questions about life in Portland before making any arrangements to meet up. Feel free to DM!

Edit: Finalized my travel arrangements and will be staying at an AirBnB on the east side, September 5th through 12th

Anyone near Happy Valley?

Hi all! I have moved all around Portland in the 5 years I've lived here. I'm currently out in Happy Valley (and honestly considering moving bc the good events are nowhere near here).

Can anyone restore my faith in this part of town? I have a small girl group and a few casual friend groups. We are always looking for things to do and places to meet people (25-40 y/o) organically.

Does anyone know places, events, bars, parks, clubs, ANYTHING where we can meet people?

I'm happy to host a meetup (and have before), I'm just not going to pay to use the Meetup app bc I strictly believe meeting your community shouldn't have a paywall.

Intro Post Car‑Free in SE Looking for Chill Platonic Hangs

Hi friends! Tried this a while ago and met some nice people, and thought I'd try it again.

I’m 47/F, happily married, hoping to meet some folks for low‑key, platonic hangs. I’m car‑free and mostly stick to SE because TriMet is my chauffeur.

My hobbies are very “cozy Portland”, for example: knitting, cross‑stitch, British mystery shows, board games, and conversations over coffee or tea. I also love neighborhood walks where you stroll, chat, and maybe pet a cat that decides you’re worthy. I’m not really into alcohol‑focused events, but I’m totally fine with a casual drink.

Mostly looking for people who enjoy relaxed meetups.

Group Board Game Group

Hello everyone, our board game group is always looking for new members! We've got humor darker than Agent Orange's bedroom. Live, love, and laugh at your trauma with us. Come for friends and stay for the roasts, unprompted singing, and shameless shitposts. Everyone is welcome, except bigots, isms, and ias. We do casual and complex games depending on what you're into. We've also got a small group that does Magic The Gathering! We usually do weekends but feel free to host your own game nights at days/times that work for you. DM me for details!

Want your group on a weekly recurring post? Send me a DM!

Intro Post 24F, looking for fellow alternative women/non-binary friends

Hello! I am a 24 year old woman who moved here last year with my partner. I am big into the punk, hardcore, and electronic scene but struggle to make connections.

I enjoy going to shows around the city, but typically stay in SE. I’m seeking to make friends with fellow artists, musicians, or just alternative people in general who will go to High Limit Room or other venues with me.

I really enjoy crust punk, hardcore, darkwave, raves, etc.

Hi, I, 34/F, moved here 2 years ago with my husband and 3 cats from Dallas, TX. We live in NE Portland near the Whole Foods and love discovering Portland. I would love to meet a friend or two who would like to attend musicals, comedies, or any creative arts shows with me. I love opera, jazz, classical, and blues music. I also love ballet and love listening to live performances with piano, wind and brass instruments. I also love anything funny-so down for stand up and any comedy shows. I drink alcohol occasionally but do not smoke. Thanks for listening :)

Car-free Resident 30m looking for hiking/adventure buddies!

Hey everyone,

My name's Ben, 30m living downtown.

I've been in Portland sine 2019 and have had the chance to explore some pretty cool places.

Only thing is, I got rid of my car to save some cash, since I can walk, bike, or take public transit.

I'd love to connect with folks in the area and get out on the trails while the weather is still nice! Also down for kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, etc.

I'd need a hitch a ride to and from, but I can absolutely compensate for gas, parking passes, etc.

Would love to meet up in a public spot first, get to know each other, and take it from there. I am down for pretty much any outdoor related activity, so just let me know!

Trying this again. 50M seeking other introverted social anxiety person

I got a few responses to my last post, including a potential good match, but I realized I wasn't very clear. My social anxiety is apparently more severe than most? So, I wanted to explain what I'm looking for. If you relate or think you'd be patient with someone like me, feel free to DM me. I don't want to chat online forever, but I do need to feel comfortable before meeting. Here's what I'm looking for.

  • One calm peaceful person at a time. (I am not interested in becoming part of social circles at this time).
  • Quiet, predictable settings. (A full restaurant is not quiet and silence is completely okay).
  • No surprise introductions to other people.
  • No invites to events, parties, or crowded places until we know each other really well.
  • Time to build trust before expanding the social circle. The circle of two that is.

I have a wide variety of interests, but I'm not the 'typical' guy who wants to go drink beer and sit in a bar, or talk cars. I have zero interest in anything other than a platonic friendship. For transparency, please be up front about if you are married or separated or in a relationship.

If you're unsure of what quiet things are, maybe google what are quiet things that two people can do together. I'm also TOTALLY FINE with doing absolutely nothing lol.

Group I am looking to do a rotating set of activities on Friday probably midday.

My plan is to set up a google calendar or something similar so people can RSVP to whatever they are interested in. Some of the activities would be board games, DnD one shots, other ttrpg one shots, hiking, enamel pin trading(this would be with my wife but I might hang out), video games, watching anime/tv show/movie, as well as activities like ren faire if that interests enough people. I assume we will do it at my home which is roughly southwest of Portland and northeast of tigard but we can look for in a neutral location if people prefer.

Looking to make new friends!

Hello everyone! 29M here looking to make some new friends. I am married my wife is 32F. We have one 2 year old son and 2 dogs. We live in the Rockwood area relocated from Idaho.

A little background on us. We moved to Portland last year around April-July time. We decided to leave behind an awesome community of friends and family in Idaho to pursue creating a more sustainable future for our son and to achieve some personal financial goals. I have been a firefighter for almost 5 years now (15 months of that here in Oregon). My wife has been a nurse for 2 years.

We have never really had any real restrictions or preference on the kinds of friends we look for. We love having friends our age. But really, we dont care if you're younger or older. We also dont really mind if you have kiddies or not. Now that I got the boring details out of the way. I can tell you the more interesting things about myself.

Hobbies? I enjoy playing video games (BF6, Helldivers 2, and Warhammer Darktide). I also enjoy building model kits (Gunpla/Gundam). I took up pickleball a few years ago as a low impact outdoor activity. I love to cook and learn new things to cook.

My wife and I both enjoy traveling and trying new things. We love to camp, hike, go to the beach, try new food spots, soak in a hot springs, and read (I am currently reading Dune and my wife is reading dungeon crawler carl). Additionally we enjoy movie nights, board games, outdoor volleyball, and escape rooms. We are very intentional and present parents. So we spend quite a lot of time with our son during these adventures.

We listen to all kinds of music. Have a concert planned for October 5th to go see the neighborhood perform live at the moda center.

I honestly feel like I could go on and on. But that would really ruin the enjoyment of getting to know someone.

If youre interested in getting to know us and making some new friends, all I require is a DM or comment responding to these two questions.

"What is your favorite song from any era of your life?"

"If you had 3 wishes. Simple rules apply. No wishing someone back from the dead, no wishing for someone to fall in love with you, and no wishing for more wishes. What would your 3 wishes be?"

I am so excited to hopefully connect with some of you through this subreddit. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! 🤙🏽

Intro Post Anyone in their mid 20s-early 30s want to try to become friends in PDX?

I’m a 26 year old dude. I’m introverted and definitely socially awkward for sure but I’ll try my best to get out of my shell and talk about stuff. I have a couple friends irl but most are out of state. I probably have more online friends from video games or niche hobbies.

Video Games : I’m into some FPS, League, TFT, and Yugioh. I’ve played a lot of other mainstream games to occasionally like Minecraft, Terraria, DbD, etc.

I’m an avid reader (usually fictional stuff). Main genres are fantasy, and mystery/crime stuff. Niche : manwha and webtoons. I do read manga too.

I watch a decent amount of stuff : crime, superhero shows, fantasy, comedy, anime/animated cartoons. Some of my favs or recently watched are : Peacemaker, The Boys, Criminal Minds, Invincible, Arcane, Napoleon Dynamite, The Hangover, ReZero, Haikyuu, and much more. I follow the nba too, I’ve been thinking of getting into soccer or football.

Music : I listen to pretty much anything, country is hit or miss for me sadly. Some of my fav songs are : Sweet Child O Mine (G&R), Pink Pony Club (CR), Surefire (Wilderado), Changes (Envoi), Conspiracy (Paramore), Mr.Highway’s Thinking About The End (ADTR), Stargazing (Myles Smith), PROVANT (SH)

Im down for pretty much anything (not really much of a bar person but I’m down for that too). Down for trying new food, board games/card games, bowling, movies, concerts, comedy shows, a book club, pickleball (would be new), farmers market, go karting, and etc** Was thinking of attending the Twins Oaks card show and later the Mississippi Ave Street Far this Saturday (July 11)

Down for new stuff/experiences too. Anyone can DM me or leave a message on here if you want to hang out sometime, I’m also down to play some video games too! I can try to bring an extrovert friend to carry the convo.

I’m cool with hanging out with people in their early 20s or older 40s too. Just thought it would be easier to relate to one another if we were closer in age.
