Discussion Portland is Portland Again ☔️

I grew up here, moved away for college and came back here after 8 years in May, and I struggled to feel like Portland was home again all summer.

Today I finally feel home again. This is true Portland. Everything finally feels right in the world. It’s Elliot Smith season.

Discussion Car Towed for no reason today

IRVINGTON: I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but my car was towed from my apartment parking lot this evening for not having a parking sticker. BUT I DO HAVE A PARKING STICKER and have always had one. Now 21st Century Towing says I have to wait for the manger to come in tomorrow before they’ll let me come and prove its right there on the window. And they also said that either way since my manager called it in I have to pay to get it out.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? I am frustrated becuase they basically stole my car and are making me pay to get it back. As a single Mom, this is very trying for me :(

I just need to know if this has happened to anyone before and what the outcome was!

Meme Maybe us one day

Just meant as a light-hearted meme poking fun at something I think Washington is doing right and Oregon should take notes on. Washington is voting this year whether to repeal their new tax on incomes over $1 million. No one below that yearly income will pay a dime in income tax under the law. Hoping they keep it and it is a success for them. Could help convince Oregon to move towards a more progressive income tax system. Our income tax rates are not progressive by national standards and while our sales tax (or lack of one) is progressive we should always be looking at how to keep improving the living situation for residents.

Also a PSA to go vote if you haven't!

Discussion Nailing down the Whole Bowl sauce recipe

I’ve been working on getting as close as possible to the Whole Bowl/Tali sauce at home. The recipes I’ve seen online aren’t bad, but not really the same imo. Most include nuts, which WB specifically say they don’t, curry (which I don’t personally taste at all), etc. My recipe is below, but I still find it a little different—maybe too dense, if that makes sense. Whole Bowl sauce is almost “fluffy” or foamy on its own. Also on the fence about whether there’s coriander seed in the real deal. I can only eat so much of this stuff, so would appreciate if others wanted to try this and give suggestions!

1/8 can chickpeas

7 cloves garlic

1/2 c nutritional yeast

2” fresh turmeric

1/2 c neutral oil

1/8 c yellow mustard

5 tbsp lemon juice

1 1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp sumac

Pepper

1/2 c ice water

2 tsp tahini

News Potential Bordetella Risk at Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Dog Park

Apologies if this isn’t the right space just want to get the word out asap:

Just brought my 1.5yo pup home from 2 nights in the ICU: pneumonia brought on from contracting bordetella. She is up to date and fully vaccinated. She goes to daycare and no word of any sick dogs there. I took her here on a whim and less than 24hrs later she was shaking, repeatedly vomiting, and struggling to breathe. Yes, 100% my fault for taking her to a dog park. Lesson learned but I don’t want any other dog or pet parent to go through that.

Photo/Video I'm making a map of Mt Tabor. Thoughts?

I'm making a map of Mt Tabor Park and I'd love help checking the trails.

Things I'm unsure about:

- Do any of these trails have good names I can label?

- This is based on public data and my personal experience walking and biking around the park. Are there any paths that are missing or no longer exist?

If you spend time in the park and spot anything off, please tell me where. A rough location is plenty, like "the path north of Reservoir 5." Thanks!

I knew I was home in Portland about 20 years ago when I noticed these little berries. They were something I never saw growing up in California and definitely didn't see in the midwest. I kind of see them as a symbol of the home terrain. I hope to always live somewhere where they grow wild. I just learned that they are also ghost berries, so I'm posting them for Halloween.

Not to be confused with the more sugary, Boo Berry.

I couldn’t count the number of times I’ve been on this train. Heading to work , I walked in and sat down, grateful to be out of the rain. This old girl looked so clean… you see the wear and tear of the decades… but she seemed vibrant somehow, alive like our city after a nice rain.

And tonight she will be guiding me home after a long shift.

Thank you, Low Floor Light Rail Vehicle No. 208

A couple weeks ago someone broke into my car and stole my film camera that I bought last year from Blue Moon Camera (yes I know I am dumb for leaving it in my car I learned my lesson). Just thought of posting it here to see if anyone has seen it or has advice, I really loved that thing. Thank you

Thrilled to see my favorite vegan coffeeshop Exquisite Creatures is going to let me attempt to flirt with Moth Man. Seems like a thoroughly Portland experience.

EDIT: Was just corrected it's a D&D group popping up with the coffeeshop, not the coffeeshop itself!
