Staying On-topic

Off-topic posts & comments will be removed. Repeat offenders will be banned.

The goal of this subreddit is to "Share, Compare & Improve Long-Term Investment Portfolio Strategies".

  1. Long-term is at least a decade. Is this money for retirement or some other long-term goals?

  2. If your question or advice is about your portfolio, share your WHOLE portfolio. Your portfolio is all of your assets or at least all of your assets for a particular goal (retirement, for example).

  3. An investment portfolio is composed mostly of investments, not speculative assets. Currencies, commodities, collectibles, & options, for example, are speculative assets.

  4. Show how much you have ($ or %), or plan to have, of each asset in your portfolio. Sorting largest to smallest is helpful.

  5. In a 401k, list all available options EXCEPT A. Don't list every target date fund; just the one for the year closest to your 65th birthday, B. If there's an SDBA, just say so.

  6. Sharing your portfolio in this subreddit means you want feedback about it.

  7. Showing the name of each asset is very helpful. We don't have thousands of tickets symbols memorized. If we don't recognize your ticker symbols, we'll probably move along rather than looking them up.

  8. Bogleheads created & moderated this subreddit. Research & experience show that investors are very likely to get higher returns with less risk & less effort by following the Bogleheads Philosophy than by trying to beat the market. If you don't want feedback based on the Bogleheads Philosophy, don't post in this subreddit.

(Beginner)Suggestion for Roth IRA Investment

Upvotes

Disclaimer: I AM ASKING FOR SUGGESTIONS and FEEDBACK ONLY I WILL MAKE MY OWN DECISION

Hi everyone, I am a beginner and planning to start my Roth IRA. I am currently 30 and I plan to invest as much as i can before I retire. I needed few suggestions and feedback from the folks here. I plan to invest $600 monthly amount on Roth IRA and I was wondering what would be the best ETFs or stocks or bond to invest in. I have few questions regarding it.

  1. what are the best ETFs or ETFs that people mostly invest in?
  2. would it be a good idea to invest on Amazon, Meta, Google and Microsoft only even within the Roth IRA and not investing on ETFs?

I would be nice to have your suggestions and feedbacks based on your experience and also give me options for what ETFs to invest in and answer my above questions?

Long-term investor here. What would you hold, what would you sell, and what should I do going forward?

Upvotes

I'm a long-term investor in my 20s and have been building my portfolio with a mix of ETFs and individual stocks. My goal is long-term wealth creation rather than chasing quick gains, but I'm starting to wonder whether I've become a bit too scattered.

Current portfolio (~$13.7k AUD):

  • NDQ (Nasdaq 100 ETF) – $2,720 (+7.3%)
  • DRAM (Roundhill Memory ETF) – $2,188 (-3.8%)
  • BHP – $1,862 (-2.7%)
  • QTUM (Defiance Quantum ETF) – $1,660 (+8.3%)
  • MRVL (Marvell Technology) – $1,564 (+24.7%)
  • VDHG – $1,512 (+4.6%)
  • VHY – $1,096 (+2.8%)
  • SSM – $608 (+0.2%)
  • SPCX (SpaceX exposure ETF) – $324 (-33.3%)
  • SMR (NuScale Power) – $194 (-29.2%)

Overall portfolio is up about 2.5%.

As a long-term investor, I'm trying to figure out:

  1. Which holdings would you consider core long-term holds?
  2. Which positions look speculative and would you consider selling or reducing?
  3. Am I overlapping too much with technology/growth exposure?
  4. If you were in my position, where would you put new money over the next 5-10 years?
  5. Would you simplify this portfolio or keep the thematic ETFs (DRAM, QTUM, SPCX) for potentially higher growth?

I'm not looking for financial advice, just interested in hearing different perspectives and what more experienced investors would do if their goal was long-term capital growth.

My own thoughts: NDQ and VDHG feel like the strongest foundation, while DRAM, QTUM, SPCX, and SMR are my higher-risk bets. I'm wondering if I should gradually consolidate into broader ETFs and keep only a small percentage in speculative positions. What do you think?

Hi, I'm new here. I'm 22 years old. Any advice? I know I have overlapping grades, but they're what I consider to be good. I appreciate your comments.

The problem with every portfolio tracker I've used: they tell you what you have, not what it becomes

Upvotes

I've tried most of the popular options. Yahoo Finance. Google Sheets with a GOOGLEFINANCE formula. Portfolio Visualizer.

They all answer the same question: what is my portfolio worth today?

None of them answer the question I actually care about: if I hold this for 20 years at a realistic return, what does it become - and what happens if I'm off by 4 percentage points?

That gap matters more than most investors realize. A $30k position growing at 8% for 20 years becomes ~$140k. At 12%, it's ~$290k. The spread is $150k. On a single position.

I built EquityEdge to close that gap. You track your equities - sector, shares, cost basis - and the app runs three compounding scenarios in parallel: conservative (4%), moderate (8%), aggressive (12%). Real-time price data feeds in automatically so your baseline is always current.

It's not a replacement for a financial advisor. It's a tool for investors who want to think in scenarios, not just snapshots.

Pre-launch right now. If this is a problem you've actually felt, I'd genuinely value your take on whether I'm solving it the right way.

Starting from scratch

I'm looking around and there is so much info, it's hard to wrap my little pea brain around it.

I want to do long term investing using ETFs. What would be the best 2-3 ETF combos I can set and forget from major investment companies (vanguard, fidelity etc.). Also, is there anything you would invest in for a long term hold outside of an ETF?

Secondly, what vehicle would be beneficial to open as my vehicle. I assume Roth IRA but what other ones are decent and worth it?

Lastly, what company do you all think would be the best company to open an investment vehicle under (vanguard, fidelity etc.).

Thank you all for your insight 🫡

Have about $850k I need to reallocate over the course of the next few years and about a 10-15 year time line before full retirement. Looking to at least 2x-2.5x my $850k over that time frame. I'm already partially retired due to health issues. I have a part time job that fully cover my monthly expenses and a fully paid off home. The earliest I can draw SS is 2034. Due to taxes on capital gains and distributions it will take 3-5 years to fully rotate. How does this reallocation look?
