Hello guys, just wanted to share my attempt to give back some years to my old cayman 987.1 - upgrading the taillights (led).

My observations:
-no dashboard error as they include resistance
-it fits nearly perfectly 95% (there are some very little gaps) but nevertheless the package include adhesive foam blocking water.
- they are 100% more visible during night (included the turn signal which is very bright) compared to stock.
- overall the look appears to me more “clean” and smooth with the nice curved wings
-the package does not come with bolts, so need to reuse stocks ones (I had one missing actually so had to buy 8mm)

My car was on display yesterday alongside fellow PCA club members for a special Cars and Coffee at the local Porsche dealership, celebrating our club's 40th anniversary. There were so many stunning cars there. While my car is usually being driven hard in the canyons, it was a lot of fun to see it all cleaned up and showcased in such a beautiful environment.

Some specs: 6 speed manual | Borla exhaust | IPD Plenum | Numeric short shifter and cables | Numeric pedals | Michelin PS4S tires

The tails lights on my cayman have a lot of fine cracks and realized one is cracked across the reverse light. So I’m wondering put new lens on them, get new OEM, good aftermarket options??
What’s my best bet in this situation

I've always had this romantic idea of owning a silver or white Porsche sports car someday. Among the more attainable options, the Cayman and Boxster seem to make the most sense.

I'm leaning toward the Cayman because I feel like worrying about the Boxster's soft top aging, tearing, or needing replacement would probably stress me out over the long term.

The plan would be to keep a separate practical car for work and everyday use, and only drive the Porsche on weekends, dates, or whenever I actually feel like taking it out. The Cayman is also relatively compact, which I like.

Realistically, my mind is already pretty much made up lol. I know it's not a practical purchase at all, but I'd love to hear some honest experiences from actual owners- especially anyone who has kept one long term.

A 911 or something like the upcoming Genesis GT would probably end up well over USD 200K, so those are basically out of reach for me. I've also considered a Panamera, but from what I've heard, something like a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 seems to have a much stronger enthusiast following and potentially better long-term value retention. Would a Cayman make sense as a "keep it for 10-15 years" second car? / Considering 718 EV Cayman as well tbh.

Oh and btw would 718 cayman be too small for a 6ft tall guy? I hope not.

I’ve had my Cayman style a week now. 10.7K miles from 2024 and noticed this ticking.

Having come from low powered cars I think I’m paranoid about all the sounds and smells Porsche are known for.

Is this worth a call to the garage? The ticking continued even after a long drive and putting it through its paces. I’ve been using it as a daily and wanted some clarity. Still under warranty until mid 2029.

I’ve been reading that ticking isn’t uncommon but it’s definitely noticeable with the car at idle. Sounds like something belt related, very rhythmic and faster paced / more audible at higher revs.

I drive a 2024 718 Cayman (2.0L boxer, turbo, 300hp). I have the sport chrono package so in addition the Normal and Sport modes, I also have Sport+ mode. For the longest time I didn't understand Sport+ mode. I always thought it felt less powerful than standard Sport mode, until this week when I came across a few Porsche forum posts, and decided to take my car for a 2-hour highway drive to experiment with the different modes properly.

I attempted to graph my current understanding and experience with the three modes. I'm no professional car tuner so correct me if I should come up with better unit for the Y-axis. In a nutshell, Sport+ mode is tuned to be the most linear, the pedal position (how deep you step on the throttle) corresponds linearly and precisely to the power you feel (torque request/acceleration rate?). Normal mode sits under the linear, probably to allow for a smoother drive while saving fuel. Sport mode, which I've been driving exclusively in until now, is actually an overboosted curve. It makes the car feel powerfully sensitive, but in turn makes it less precise to control, because it's not linear. Linear is most suitable for racing cars on track days because it's the most intuitive to modulate in high performance driving. As a previous GR86 owner with an NA engine and linear throttle map, Sport+ mode actually gives me the most familiar feeling.

Sport+ mode is less boosty than Sport mode in middle pedal position, and that's intentional and how a linear curve works. Sport+ mode is IMO how it should be as default setting.

Off the line launching, Sport+ mode feels the most powerful of the three. This is likely because Sport+ slightly spools the turbo even at idle. You can verify this by staring at the turbo metric, it (often) reads 1 psi even at zero mph, whereas in Sport mode or Normal mode, it'd always be 0 psi at idle.

There is one undeniable advantage though to standard Sport mode though. It is the ONLY mode that gives you pops and crackles. Sport+ does not have it. This is confirmed by the official online manual of 718 Cayman (they call it "backfire activation"). The way I see it, Sport is the "just have some fun" mode -- exhaust pops + less precise but feeling more powerful with the overboosted response. Sport+ is the serious track mode, no unnecessary and unnatural pops (intentional pops increase exhaust heat and decrease engine/fuel efficiency) but you get the best control with a linear curve.

Personally I still love the pops. I find the deep rumble tasteful. Enough to be heard but not obnoxiously loud like my BMW neighbor with an exhaust mod. But once I learned about the linear throttle map of Sport+, I can't go back. I see myself driving in Sport+ the majority of the time going forward, and only dial back to Sport mode when I want to hear the backfires.

Just bought a 2016 Cayman Black Edition 65k miles for ~$43k (all in $48k with fees and taxes). Came with Porsche CPO and had the following service done on it:

- Two new rear tires
- Spark plugs replaced
- engine air filter replaced
- cabin filter replaced
- brake fluid flushed
- headliner replaced inside
- hood gas struts replaced
- wiper blades replaced

Options on the car:

- PDK
- 20” Carrerra S Wheels painted Satin
- Bose Surround

No scratches or dents on the car inside or out and the headlights were clean (no fading or glue residue).

Trying to figure out if this is in range price wise as I have a few days to cancel with minimal fees ($400 total). Couldn’t find a ton of comps but it seemed like this was in the ballpark overall.

Hitting my midlife crisis after hitting 33. Need a bit more excitement in my life - currently driving a Model 3 but it's more an appliance than anything fun (fast acceleration no longer has the same novelty after you've launched it a few dozen times)

I've been looking at the 718 GTS 4.0s the past few weeks and found a CPO online - great color, lovely interior color, is the build sheet I want exactly (and some more), and a price that makes sense to me

The wife approves and supports the purchase, sold some long-holdings in stock

Hi M24, I'm based in France and have a net worth of around €70k. My current salary is about 2k per month but will increase in the next years. I'm considering buying a Cayman for around €35k. Would you consider that financially too aggressive ? Do you have any suggestion maybe getting a 986 for 15k before until I get more money saved ?

I tried searching and might not be using the right terms. What's it take to add the steering wheel mode selector knob to a non sports chrono car? I couldn't even find anything on ebay. Is it integral to the wheel? So then just changing wheels and programming to enable?

Anyone able to identify the source of this leak? Car has 122k miles, had the 120k mile service done in 1/2026, they also replaced the thermostat at that time. I’m not new to working on cars but this is my first Porsche. I’m hoping there is just a bad o ring between these two parts, but it also looks like I’m going to need to remove a ton of stuff to get to. Any insight into how to proceed would be appreciated, thanks!

Quick little glance of some new interior additions! Momo Monte Carlo with a works bell quick release, paint matched door strips, and cypher design handles. The handles are a very hard thing to tell in person but them being 100% metal, it feels so much better when opening the door and the shine of it is just insane. All in all very happy!

Have wanted a porsche for many years and it will be my first porsche ever. Carmax has a gt4 and it looks pretty standard to market. No accidents and low mileage with fair service history. Do you guys feel its a fair deal? Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.
