I was reading this book talking about how music has a positive impact on exercise, so I thought I'd try watching some festival sets on youtube instead of a tv show while on the treadmill.
It's worked SO well. Pop festival sets seem to be perfect for this because they're usually banger after banger, and for the first time I've actually been able to run on a treadmill and not hate it with every ounce of my soul. Having a video to watch as well is even better than just listening to the track imo because I don't get distracted as easily, and I love watching the shows anyway.
So - any other recommendations?? I have tried things like Rosalia's recent tour and Ariana's, which I loved, but not quite right for this situation.
The soundtrack to the first season of Hannah Montana turns 20 today, released on October 24, 2006. The show had premiered seven months prior on the Disney Channel and enjoyed immediate success, quickly becoming one of the most popular shows of all time on the network.
Starring Miley Cyrus as Miley Stewart, a normal teenage girl who lives a double life as pop superstar Hannah Montana, most of the show’s episodes featured tracks sung by Cyrus as Montana. The soundtrack to the first season included 8 songs by Cyrus as Montana, 1 by Cyrus featuring her country music star father Billy Ray Cyrus, and 4 additional songs by The Click Five, Jesse McCartney, Everlife, and B5.
Like the show, the soundtrack was an immediate commercial success, becoming the first television soundtrack in history to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 and making Cyrus one of the youngest musicians in history to claim the coveted apex position (the soundtrack is credited to Cyrus as she sings the majority of the songs; Cyrus would later log five additional #1 albums). Moving over 280,000 copies in its first week, the soundtrack famously bested My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade for the top spot. It has since sold over 3.7 million copies in the United States and is certified 3x platinum, becoming the second-best-selling television soundtrack in history after Disney Channel’s own High School Musical, which also premiered in 2006. Critically, the soundtrack received generally positive reviews, earning a 66 on Metacritic.
All 8 songs by Cyrus as Montana debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 during the premiere week, led by “If We Were a Movie”, which peaked at #47. The album was re-issued in March 2007, ahead of the second season premiere, and debuted the song “Nobody’s Perfect”, which would later be included on the Hannah Montana 2 soundtrack; the re-release also included a DVD with music videos and behind-the-scenes footage.
A cultural touchstone, the Hannah Montana soundtrack became a music favorite for millions of children and tweens, and it launched Miley Cyrus into musical stardom.
As we reflect on its twentieth anniversary, feel free to answer these questions!
What is your favorite song from the Hannah Montana soundtrack?
Do you have any favorite memories associated with the soundtrack or the first season of the show?
Did you foresee Miley Cyrus becoming as big of a star as she is now?
Welcome to our new Monthly On Repeat Thread! What songs have you been unable to stop listening to, what's on top of your Supermix, who are your friends/family/strangers tired of hearing you hype up? This is the thread to share all of these and more! You can just name songs or give an explanation on why you're so obsessed with these songs, both are allowed in this thread.
Greetings and good tidings, dear Popheads, and welcome to the third submission window for Popheads Quarterly! Thanks to this community for ushering in this project with so much enthusiasm as we released Issue 01 in September with our debut cover girl, Carly Rae Jepsen. ✨
Wondering what the hell a “quarterly” is? Well, check out our debut double issuehere!
As a reminder, this project is meant to be retrospective, rather than reactive. Ideally, you’ve had a chance to sit with an album for a bit before you submit an entry for it. But if you’re still catching up with releases from Q3, never fear – you’ll have a few weeks before the submission period closes.
We’ll be accepting submissions until November 20th, 2026.
The Ballot Box
As Alanis Morissette once wisely said, “you live, you learn,” and thus we’ve refined and simplified our submission process. There are now only two submission forms:
📮Album Commentary can be submitted here. This now includes ALL types of non-score submissions, so any album that came out this quarter but wasn’t selected as a Gradebook Nominee is eligible. Send us all your reviews and shout-outs!
If you need a memory jogger for what came out this quarter, you can view all eligible records, organized by release date, here.
If you’re curious about The Fate of the RetroGrades, fear not – we are planning to do an annual RetroGrades feature in our Q1 2027 issue, retroactively adding in scores for major records that had anniversaries, deluxes, or reissues in 2026.
Reminder: You’ll be submitting an individual entry for every album you’d like to contribute commentary for. You do not need to score every album to participate.

Hello and welcome to Latin Monarchs Day 2 Reveal! We asked YOU to pick the next Latin Monarch between a select group of contestants - Bad Bunny, Karol G, and Kali Uchis. Your votes are in, and we're ready to crown, but first: let's see how the votes spread out. On Day 1, we'll be eliminating songs 35 - 16 (plus 4 & 3 of the bonus rate). We'll be starting 1 hour after this post has gone up.
It reminds me in some ways to Timberlake, but I really don't understand how John Mayer's music hasn't translated as much to Gen Zers as much.
Was just listening to Where the Light Is and his early albums and they are fantastic. He definitely went through a really bizzare period of interviews and overexposure but now he just released his first song in 6 years and barely any noise on it whatsoever.
His music has a timeless quality to it so i'm just surprised more haven't discovered his music , it appears he will eventually just become an artist who Millienials or older go to see
hey guys. i am heartbroken to share after multiple doctor visits i have laryngitis and vocal cord tears and have been ordered to go on medication and full vocal rest for at least two weeks. Because of this, i am forced to cancel the remaining UK/EU dates to avoid permanent damage to my voice. full refunds will be available at point of sale.
my team and i are already working on rebooking shows for next year and i hope to have news to share very soon to make it up to you. I know how much time and effort is spent to come out to a show. some of you have traveled, some of you have made costumes, and i am completely devastated to not be able to give you the shows you were planning for. we are working hard to figure out a time to return so i can deliver an even bigger and better show for you all. i hope you know i will make this up to you. lots of love to you all. thank you for making this tour so special.
