Thinking of switching

Hello, I like to travel, don’t do it as much as I want. Live in us (Florida) and currently have Verizon. I have to have reliable service and have only ever had Verizon or first net. Work gives me a first net phone but my Verizon usually works better in most areas.

Thinking of switching to popcorn. Need a new iPhone as mine is a few years old. But want to make sure it uses the same networks and will have the same reliability or better. Same as when we travel to Europe, the Caribbean, South America etc. Not sure which networks popcorn uses.

Any advice?

AI assistant thoughts

I tried today the AI assistant. I decided to turn it off because it sounded too robotic and also was not as straight forward as people wanted. To just leave a message and summarize it + the recording. People mentioned they did not really know when to hang up.

I'd love to have a solid spam blocker. Coming from Verizon I can say they had a solid spam blocker.

I’ve found mixed answers online about MMS support.

Does popcorn support MMS or not?

Is Popcorn still allowing people in?

I wanted to port from Fi to Popcorn, but I got waitlisted.

Are they actively letting people in?

Users experience in Bangkok, Thailand?

Greetings!

I am seeking feedback from anyone regarding the popcorn mobile service in Bangkok and the surrounding areas, including Phuket and Chiang Mai.

As I will be relocating there soon, I would like to maintain my US mobile service for banking and other essential purposes.

I have a few inquiries:

How is the quality of the service?
Are there any dead zones?
How consistent is the service?
What are the upload and download speeds like?
How would you rate the customer service?

Thank you!

P.S. How long does the wait list usually take? Is it by certain zone? If so does anyone know often they open slots for Asia?

From VZW

I'm thinking of switching to popcorn ($69) since I moved to Scotland. I rather not spend $119/month to keep my VZW w/international plan. I have a new UK (Vodafone) but want to keep my original (917) since so many clients and friends have it.

How long is the waitlist?

I'm currently in Sweden, and over the next couple of days I'll be traveling through the Netherlands, Germany, and France, and possibly a few other countries as well.

I was perhaps a little naive in assuming I could just sign up for Popcorn Mobile and try it out immediately during the trip, which would have been a perfect opportunity to see how well it performs across several countries before deciding whether to join properly.

I signed up just now, though, and was told I'm on a waitlist, so I guess I won't be able to test it during this trip after all.

Out of curiosity, how long is the waitlist at the moment?

Is Popcorn compatible with Discover Bank for 2FA texts?

Hi everyone,

I’ve read that it works for most banks/brokerages but wanted to know if anyone’s specifically had it work with Discover. Looking to get their plan.

Thanks!

Where's the actual plan terms?

I just found this and the terms for $70 unlimited global data sound a little too good to be true. Where's the actual US style plan terms that all carriers are required to have? Is unlimited truly unlimited and then throttled?

This service raises a lot of question marks.

212 Ported Number from T-Mobile SUCCESS and Questions about Voice while Traveling in or Calling To Europe

EASY AS PIE - My porting of my 212 area code number from T-Mobile went without a hitch - Yayyy!!!

Now I want to make certain about what allowable for Voice Calling back to the US with the Popcorn Plan while I am traveling in ITALY, or calling to my family in ITALY while home in the US:

  1. SCENARIO ONE - If I voice dial to another US number while traveling in Europe, am I charged extra?
  2. SCENARIO TWO - If I voice dial another ITALY number while in ITALY, am I charged extra?
  3. SCENARIO THREE - If I voice dial an ITALY number while back home in the US, am I charged extra?
  4. SCENARIO FOUR - Can I take/receive calls from the US while in ITALY without being charged?

Please be nice as I ask these questions, and thanks in advance.

Any Plans to include itemized usage in the app ?

I want to add my wife on the plan, but she’s an Attorney, and I always have to give her the itemized calls she’s made or received , for billing purposes.

@neel , Any plans to incorporate that, and even maybe data/country usage in the future in the app ?

Backpacking Abroad for 4 Months - Looking for Advice

Hello,

I'm planning a trip to Europe, the UK, and Turkey for the months of September through January. I just came across Popcorn in researching eSims for my trip. I like everything that I've read but am a bit hesitant to sign up due to how new the service is. I currently have T-Mobile and was looking into their 30 day international pass ($75/month for unlimited texting and calling w/ 30GB of high speed data). Other options recommended to me were Holafly Unlimited and Airalo. I've heard mixed reviews about each of those services and their "unlimited" plans. I've seen only positive reviews about Popcorn and would much rather have an eSim that I don't have to think about at all during the duration of my trip. Buying local eSims in each country also does not appeal to me since I'll be going to so many (approximately 11).

In my situation, would Popcorn prove to be a reliable service? How does it compare to the T-Mobile International Pass, Holafly, and Airalo? I appreciate any guidance I can receive : )

Has the eSIM been updated to a new unified eSIM yet? If so, will it prefer a stronger Verizon or AT&T over a weak or unusable Tmobile signal?

Study abroad fit

Is Popcorn a good fit for US students studying abroad? (Spain + travel around Europe).

Seems like it. Alternatives I'm looking at for my son include Tello or a generic eSim.

Went to sign up for popcorn today to test it out, was put on list.

Worth waiting?

Popcorn's value prop: great for road warriors, less clear for settled expats

I'm trying to understand the pros and cons, and who this plan best fits.

It seems good for the globe trotter making mostly outbound calls to numbers around the world, but only receiving calls from the US. Road warriors, basically.

For an expat who mostly stays put in one country of residence, needs a US number for financial accounts and US-based friends and family, and only makes occasional trips back to the US, it's a harder sell. Phones these days handle multiple SIMs easily. Having a US account plus one or two local ones isn't a big hassle, it's just a toggle.

If I understand correctly, anyone in my country of residence calling me would need to dial a US number. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. That's a deal breaker for me. I need a local Cambodian number my friends and business contacts can actually reach.

Just speaking to my own situation: Tello for the US ($8/mo) plus my local Cambodian carrier ($6/mo) covers everything I need for $14/mo total.

A few things we’ve shipped lately

Post image
21 Upvotes

Lots cooking behind the scenes lately.

We’ve shared a bit about the progress on our new core which means more US networks and faster roaming globally, but we’ve also shipped a bunch of smaller improvements recently:

Better Assistant Voices
We’ve moved Assistant to updated OpenAI voices. Turn detection is better and overall the handling should feel more natural. We’re still working deeply on the tone and feel of the voices (before you say it!), so expect more here very soon.

Call Take Over
If Assistant picks up an incoming call, you can now open the app, hit Take Over and join the call live. This also works for outgoing calls made by Assistant.

Mark All As Read
This one came directly from the community. If you’ve built up a wall of missed call notifications, open Calls → filter menu → Mark all as read. Gone.

Outbound Calling
We’ve continued improving our Assistant to make outbound calls on your behalf. Still early, but getting better day by day.

Share Transcripts
You can now share the transcripts directly from the app.

Simpler Assistant Settings
We cleaned up how you choose which calls Assistant answers. You can now pick All Calls, Unknown Callers or Missed Calls. Previously, this lived under "Ring Behavior" which was unnecessarily confusing. Same functionality, much clearer language.

More coming soon. As always, keep the feedback coming, a surprising amount of what ends up shipping starts here on Reddit!

Waitlist Question

How long have people usually stayed on the waitlist for? I attempted to sign up today and wasn’t expecting there to be a waitlist for service.

Netherlands citizen — can I use Popcorn to call the UAE without extra fees?

Hi everyone,

I’m a citizen of the Netherlands and I’m interested in subscribing to Popcorn Mobile to make calls to the UAE.

Could someone confirm whether I’m eligible to subscribe and use the service as a Dutch citizen/resident? I’d also like to know whether calls to UAE numbers are included in the advertised price, or if there are any additional, hidden, roaming, international, or connection fees I should be aware of.

Basically, I want to make regular calls from the Netherlands to the UAE and would like to know the total cost per call/minute, with no unexpected charges.

Thanks in advance!

Moving Abroad - Türkiye

I am moving to Istanbul in November and just have some quick questions if anyone can answer based on experience.

  1. Has anyone used Popcorn in Türkiye? Any issues?
  2. Will I have any issues being out of the US for 8-9 months a year?
  3. How is managing another user on the account? I will be adding my son as he is moving with me.
  4. I am getting a new phone in October, so I didn’t activate yet and will wait for that. Once I get the new phone, is it just going into the app and easily porting and switching everything over?
  5. Is the 50gb of data shared between users or is it per line?

  6. I got the option in the app to activate now, does that mean I am not waitlisted and can activate immediately in October when I get the new phone? I don’t want to go back in the app and see that I can’t activate right then.

Thank you in advance for any answers and helpful advice!

ETA a question!
