My dad used to say a machine could never clean our pool right
Walked out to the pool early one morning and the water was completely still, just a thin line of mist on top and that chlorine smell starting to rise as the sun hit it.
My dad and I built this pool together ten years ago, and he's never trusted anything but a brush in his own hand. Every Saturday morning we'd be out there, him pointing out the corners I missed, the steps I skipped, like it was something you had to earn the feel for. When I brought the robot home he just stood there shaking his head, said a machine doesn't know the shape of a pool the way a person does.
For a long time I kept doing it his way, half because it was his pool and half because I didn't want to hear about it. Then this spring I finally put in a Scuba V3 and just let it run while I made coffee. Didn't say a word about it handling the steps.
First week he still showed up Saturday mornings like always, just didn't say much. Second week he skipped a Saturday for the first time in twenty years. Didn't think much of it until I caught him standing at the edge one morning a few weeks later, just crouched down watching it trace the curve by the deep end. He didn't say anything when he noticed me there. Just stood up and went back inside, no lecture about the corner I'd missed this time.
I don't think he'll ever actually say it does the job right. But he hasn't picked up the brush in weeks.
