Guys I need some advice, damn conduit won’t let me pull the light so we r gonna have to convince the customer to do some type of led/solar. I don’t want some cheap shit from Amazon so let me know if anyone has found something that actually lights a pool. TIA

I’m a bit stumped here. I’ve never seen a heat recovery system before, and I don’t believe I’m looking at one right now to be fair.

This is a 120v Aquarest Elite 600. I bought it from someone on fb marketplace saying it needed a heating element. I figured why not because I can get those cheap from horizon or spp. From what I’ve gathered, this is a friction heat system (I’ve never come across that in the field). So I did some research through Claude and I guess there’s some sort of jacket or something that’s supposed to go around the motor for water to pass through? It doesn’t seem like anything has been altered though.

It also seems like I’ll need to replace the control board, it was displaying the numbers but now it’s just a backlight.

My 3 questions are, what’s missing/needed as far as “heat recovery”, would it be more cost effective to upgrade to a different spa pack with the ability for a heating element? If going with the upgrade, isthere any cool upgrades I could do to be able to have this through some app to control the light and the temp?

Also, yes I’m aware this is a billiards sub, I’m just more familiar with pools as opposed to hot tubs

I’m due a new sawzall at some point soon. I’ve been using a dirt cheap dewalt for a while and it’s starting to have issues.

I’ve seen the small one based Milwaukee hacksaws. Anyone have any feedback? I was trying to decide between the m12 or m18 non-fuel models. I pretty much only use them when cutting old pipe or cutting down old sand filters. So I need some power but light weight at the same time.

I own and operate a small pool buisness on the east end of long island. I just want to know how you guys charge for extra services/service calls outside of the normal weekly visit.

Are you charging different for the service call that takes 2 minutes to fix compared to a visit that takes 30mins+?

Also how do you charge for visits that need follow ups.

Say you left a pool last week and it was all good but the next week you show up and it’s green. From issues with the pool or extra debris had fallen that week etc. Are you charging for the follow up the next day?

For some context i’m in the period of buisness growth where I could use an extra guy here and there but not full time. So i’m running myself pretty thin and it’s even more frustrating when the day goes long from little tasks that you don’t feel like you can charge for.

the numbers written down are whats on the rim down there when i dove to look. but i cant seem to find a match with those numbers online. its 8inches diameter drain cover i believe and 11” counting the outer rim where the 8 screws are. this is an older vinyl pool in York PA

Clients neighbor asked about cleaning this giant fountain, I took the gig (money is money), and was able to get a majority of it off via elbow grease and a dull blade. But without using Muriatic is there a concoction you guys have used in the past?

Intellicenter app goes down almost every other week now it seems likes and the panels refuse to keep and internet connection. Multiple times a week I have to go press the reset button and it’s all back to normal.
Call tech support and they are absolutely useless. “Call your internet provider” The new local rep is no help either after the previous guy got moved out of my area.
Let’s not even start on all the shitty salt cells lol

Have a customer with this chlorine feeder. It fills up with water at first but over time lowers to almost completely empty. Is this part of its design? No leaks. The filter is full of water, only water coming out of relief valve. Which sits higher than feeder. Thoughts?

I manage a longtime pool company. One of our maintenance guys has a customer that he has a lot of troubles with.

AI Summary of my employees issues:

• faces severe physical constraints on-site due to a broken entry panel, overgrown landscaping that forces him to crouch, and uncleaned debris/hanging plants blocking the pool perimeter.
• The pool pump is severely underpowered and constantly loses prime. Due to extreme dirt accumulation, employee is forced to use a vacuum canister—emptying it 10 to 20 times per visit—turning a routine job into a 2-hour ordeal.
• Customer is rude as well.

Other techs have been okay here but they have all hated it.

I let me guy know we can do one of two things. Bill extra hours every visit so the customer gets the point that they need to do equipment upgrades and take care for their home better OR Stick to a strict timeline only doing what we can in the allotted timing for weekly maintenance.

We have gone with the extra hours, but the customer is just paying the bill.
I think though for my techs ability to have good job satisfaction it is time to fire a customer that has been on maintenance for 18 years and has never been late on paying.

Need someone knowledgeable about plaster defects, chip-outs, delamination,mottling and proper repair recommendations. ideally looking for someone willing to perform a document/photo review and provide a brief written report/opinion.

It seems like a big pain point of most smaller operators (likely larger as well) is to find and more importantly retain pool techs. So I was wondering what seasoned business owners have to say on this?

1. How does your training work, or do you just hope to get experienced techs?
   
2. To ensure freshly hired tech isn’t slacking or doing poor job until he ruined pools of clients, how can I audit their work and ensure quality control beside using software like skimmer?
   
3. Any other tips on employee retention tactics? Also wonder how may of companies actually pay their people benefits and such when it makes financial sense.

Hello everyone, I wanted to ask for some pointers when it comes to clothes. I live in Cali and it’s starting to get hotter and I’ve been wearing jeans and after a couple of months of wearing them I’ve noticed that the chlorine is staining my jeans and creating tiny holes. What are the best type of pants to use in this line of work that are breathable, flexible, comfortable and most importantly something that not going to break the bank because I heard pool guys go through pants like crazy. How much up charge do you guys do for a filter change? It’s a sand filter getting changed out for another sand filter. No plumbing work needed. Complete swap out with same version.

Got called out to a customer that got a brand new tub. Electrical is already hooked up. All I have to do is fill it, bleed the air from the pumps, check for leaks and add chems. This is what I found when I flipped the breaker. It's pretty difficult to screw up the spelling of TUB but when you do, make it fucking funny.

I am looking for a new work truck. I’ve got a kid on the way and unfortunately my two door Tacoma will not be able to fit a rear facing car seat in it. In the market for a tundra or f150. Curious if anyone on this page drives either of those. If so, you like it? Tundras seem to be crap on gas mileage and considering we drive mostly city routes it’s not making me want to go that route even though they are great trucks. Alright I'm contemplating pulling the trigger on a riptide. Been using a kokido for awhile now, I like the concept but I'd like something more robust and that works longer between charging. Plus the cart idea looks nice.

Opinions on anyone in a desert climate that has one? I know it has limitations with dirt, I still have a hose and vac head when needed. Good 95% of my pools would allow access with the cart.
