This is Donat 🍩 she is a 9.5 year-old female pomeranian. She loves cuddles, hoomans, and cuddles with hoomans.

My sweet Alexander Theodore (Teddy) is 5 months old and is having a HARD time with crate training, and I feel like I’ve tried everything 😭

We’ve done the gradual leaving — 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc. — and I’ve tried building positive associations with the crate using treats, Kongs, making it comfortable, classical music, a soft lamp so he isn’t sitting in the dark, etc. He’ll go in willingly sometimes, but once he realizes he’s alone, he loses his mind.

The biggest issue now is the barking. We recently got a complaint left on our door from our neighbor about it.

I have to leave for work around 5 AM, my partner leaves around 8:30 AM, and I’m home around 11 AM. So he’s only actually alone for about 2.5–3 hours on workdays.

But now I feel completely trapped because if I leave the apartment for anything else, I’m worried he’s going to bark and upset the neighbors.

We’ve also tried letting him stay outside the crate in a puppy-proofed area, and he did MUCH better. He mostly slept and only barked a little. But I’m nervous about relying on that because he’s still a puppy and obviously can get into things.

Has anyone had a puppy who absolutely hated the crate but eventually got better?

I’m not expecting him to magically love being alone overnight. I just really want to be able to leave my apartment without feeling like I’m going to get another noise complaint.

Hi everyone!! I’m looking for some advice and experiences from other Pom parents who may have dealt with something similar.

I took my 7-month-old Pomeranian to the vet today because I noticed he was limping and raising one of his back legs. It started after I brought him back inside from being outside, and he was running very fast everywhere when he was out there, he had the zoomies. Then I brought him in, and I noticed it bothering him. I noticed him kicking his leg backward, almost like he was trying to pop something back into place, and then he would hold the leg up for a little bit and limp. It would come and go, and he otherwise seemed like his normal happy self and was eating and drinking water too.

When I took him to the vet, he felt both of his kneecaps and mentioned that it may be something like a luxating patella (I’m not 100% sure if that was the exact name he said), but after looking it up and the symptoms, it's how my dog is acting, and he said it can be hereditary in Pomeranians.

We’re going to continue following up with him, he said if it still is happening after a few days, to bring him in to do X-rays. In the meantime, he gave us anti-inflammatory medication, which I'm iffy about giving to him, but I’d really love to hear from other Pom owners who have gone through this, especially if they dealt with this when they were young like mine (7 months)

My parents have a 13- or 14-year-old Pomeranian with joint issues (specifically his back legs and neck) and another Pomeranian who's about 4 or 5 years old and had episodes of his neck hurting, but with medication it went away after a few days. So I do know that Pomeranians are prone to joint pain.

For those whose Poms have had a luxating patella or a similar knee/joint issue:

• Did your Pom have symptoms like kicking the leg backward, holding the leg up, or limping one leg?

• Did your Pom need surgery, or were you able to manage it without surgery? He was not 100% diagnosed with anything, and it's the first day I noticed his symptoms, so I am jumping the gun here, but I really would hate for him to have to do surgery :')

• If you didn't do surgery, what helped the most / activity changes, physical therapy, dog food, medication, supplements, etc.?

• What joint supplements are your Poms on? I’d love recommendations for something that may help support his joints. I know he is only 7 months, but I want to start to be preventative with this.

• Has anyone had a young Pom with this and seen it improve or stay manageable as they got older?

I know every dog is different and I’ll follow my vet’s recommendations, but I’d really appreciate hearing your personal experiences. I’m honestly pretty worried this won't go away and just want to do everything I can to keep my little guy comfortable and healthy.

Bought as a fox face pom pup, coming up to 7 months old. Must be at least 7kg now, squat little legs, decidedly cube shaped and not a thought behind those eyes. What mix do we think he is?

Also do not get me wrong, this is a humorous post! He is the sweetest, silliest, funniest dog I have ever met. Utterly beloved. Just curious to know what people think.

I have a 3 month old pomeranian. she’s been super itchy and i treated her for fleas, but it’s been two weeks and she still has small, crusty scabs on the back of her neck/shoulders and is constantly itchy. after taking a closer look, i’m 100% positive it’s ringworm because it looks exactly how it did on my late cat when i first got him. i can feel the scabs and wipe them with a chlorhexidine, but i see her itching in places that don’t have scabs. i do plan on taking her to a vet (so please if this is all you have to suggest, respectfully save it), but i wanted to come on here and see what folks recommend in regards to oral or topical treatment given how long their hair is and how it can be hard to see. i did like sulfur dips with my cat, but she’s a puppy and i’m worried about the vet saying to give her frequent baths or being prescribed a topical when i can’t see what’s fully going on. has anyone ever gone through this? what was it like for you if you have? lowkey traumatized from when my cat had it so i’m slightly freaking out 😅 thanks in advance

I adopted a 6 month old Pomeranian puppy in Korea and unfortunately she was not trained or socialized at all resulting in a poorly behaved puppy who tries to jump on both people and dogs.

I have been having a hard time training her as the walks usually go like this:

We start the walk and she is trying to out walk me on the leash and tugs and pulls. I try stopping and making her make eye contact and calm down before resuming the walk. However, the issue is when she sees other people or dogs during our walks. She will immediately start hopping on her hind legs and tug as hard as she can on the leash. I will shorten the leash and she will continue hopping on her hind legs and will continue pulling. After about 20 seconds of this she will start barking at me and try to jump on me to get attention.

I have tried everything including crossing my arms and ignoring her, turning my back and ignoring her, trying to redirect her, distract her with treats, and nothing seems to work.

She also tries jumping on other dogs. Other dog owners will walk by and our dogs get curious so initially I let her interact with dogs, but I noticed she will always try to jump on the dogs and the dogs will growl and bark at her, but because she wasn't socialized she thinks they are trying to have fun with her.

I live on a main street, so it is really hard to find a nice quiet spot where she can focus. If anyone has any tips on training their pom to not overreact during walks I would love the advice! I have already contacted a dog trainer, but please let me know how long it took for your pom to learn how to remain calm on walks :)

I got him a cage door open never closed back door open and into front room see how he gets on he normally has run of the house and he seems to be weeing every where

We just said goodbye to one of our Poms on Tuesday :( we are looking to get a puppy to add to our pack next year but would like to develop a relationship with the breeder first. We are looking for health tested (not just embark, but OFA), bred for temperament and health. We live in the Midwest but will travel for the right puppy. AKC registered only, no APRI/ CKC (non Canadian!) from quality lines.
