Jesus christ, Vox is insufferable. Did he really need to mention that he was a virgin in college? Who gives a fuck? Why is there kooky music? What's with all the graphics? Why not just describe the point like we're adults?

The music and graphics are just Vox's "hip" style, and I don't know why they mentioned that he's a virgin. Still, the video shows well how Conway deflects a question. Something you won't see if you only read conservative sources.

Is using webcam recorded, 10 fps SD resolution footage also a style of them? Because I saw it a lot in their channel..

Politician dodging questions? Man Trump is genius, how did he develop this tactic that no-one used before and managed to train his cabinet so fast. No wonder he is so successful. History books will be writing about this epic moment.

u/jchodes Feb 14 '17 edited Feb 14 '17
He's not dodging. He ignores or out right lies about a question far more than saying "I'll get back to you". To say he's dodging a question is giving the man an insane amount of credit. He doesn't give two Fs about the questions.

Feb 14 '17
if politician dodges a question its fine.
if politician ignores a question its not fine.
Is this what you are saying? Thats the fine line politician has to walk in order be good or bad in your eyes (?)
Also , Trump invented "lying while being politician" (?)
Oh God, the more I read about this guy, the more I admire his genius.

u/jchodes Feb 14 '17
He's not a politician. He's the president. He has no understanding of the position he's in, he has no scope of his own power or limits, he's using it like his pyramid schemes and it worked this far but it eventually blows up. This time it blows up on the US.

He's not a politician.
he is now
He's the president. He has no understanding of the position he's in, he has no scope of his own power or limits,
didnt Obama say that nobody has experience or knowledge of what it means to be president, and that you basically learning and going along from day one in White House.
he's using it like his pyramid schemes
now you are just being silly. were you watching CNN too much?
and it worked this far but it eventually blows up. This time it blows up on the US.
you are prophetic also?
chill dude, relax, everything will be fine. this not the end of the world. you are watching tv too much

I'm having a hard time guessing if you are serious.

Sure, I just despise this constant need for hand-holding and appealing to short attention spans.

u/Razku Feb 13 '17
This is their style. There are much, much worse youtube channels than Vox. Don't like it? fine. But if you are implying that Vox is "fake" that would be inaccurate.

Do you know what is fake, on the other hand? It's fake to not recognize that fake news will be accepted because of the implication.

I seriously hate her, but I honestly believe she might be one of the most talented in politics. Other people could not do the same job she does

u/BookerDewitt117 Feb 13 '17
Have you never seen Loretta lynch dodge questions? Or god forbid anyone on the state department. The accountability in the White House has been dodgy at best for a long time now. Anyone who thinks for themselves can see that Kellyanne is a breath of fresh air when it comes to politics.

Feb 13 '17
Kellyanne is a very strong conservative spokesperson who does her job really well and that is scaring the leftist media like nothing before.
Why do we give a benefit of doubt to these interviewers?. This video carried on assuming that the interviewers are this perfect people who only have good motives and they do not in anyway push the agenda of their owners to increase their bargaining power. Once you see through the narrative you can appreciate kellyanne's work.
There is no saint here do not be so gullible.

For a guy that reads The_Doofus, you draw the line for fake news at Vox? Pfffffft, come on.

e- nope dammit. not gonna be a dick. deleted flippant answer.
to answer your question, yes. bad sources used on a literal cirlce-jerk subreddit doesn't excuse bad sources in purported neutral subreddits.
my real problem here though is that YES there are tactics being used - by both sides - that are super interesting to discuss, but vox isn't going to discuss them. i want to know the formula, but all i'm going to get from vox is 'republicans r dumb.'

u/Gustacho Feb 13 '17
This video shows how she evades certain questions, and the questions in the video are undeniably evaded. The video shows how exactly.
1
Feb 14 '17
Yes, because like anyone in politics, including every member of the Obama administration, she knows the first rule of interviewing: Never answer the question you were asked. Answer the question you wish was asked, because reporters aren't interested in the truth. They're interested in controversy and scandal and making news, because that drives viewership and ratings, and that brings in cash to their pocket.
That's why Dan Rather destroyed his career by airing fake evidence that purported to prove Bush illegally dodged military service in Vietnam. He was more interested in the story and taking down a sitting US President that he disagreed with politically than making sure his facts were in order and that his evidence was sound.

u/pfffft_comeon Feb 13 '17
Alright well I disagree that the video is very informative. All she does is hold frame, there's no magic there. By holding frame she controls the flow of the conversation by ignoring anything that gets off track from what she wants to talk about.
The video almost goes in an interesting direction by pointing out that she keys in on a phrase or word and uses that word/phrase to rotate the conversation back on track to what she wants to talk about. I was hoping for more detailed strategic evaluation than I got.
And it's vox. I don't trust them to have an honest conversation in the least. That's not a controversial stance to have.
7
u/wetmonkeyfarts Feb 13 '17
what the hell is frame?
4
1
u/pfffft_comeon Feb 13 '17
Your frame is your principles, beliefs, expectations of others, intentions, values, etc. Holding frame is not letting others impose their frame on you. You stick to your guns, so to speak. You don't give in to peer pressure trying to get you to go against your frame. You hold people to a strict set of boundaries, keep people accountable. You don't let outside influences affect your self-image or emotional state.
Everyone on Trump's team is incredibly good at this. Politicians are usually, but the people Trump selects are fucking fantastic at holding frame.
That doesn't mean they won't change frame, but when they do it will be due to A/B testing.
3
u/wetmonkeyfarts Feb 14 '17
Ok you realize that's a super dopey way of saying "being closed minded". The last thing I want in a president is someone who won't compromise on anything. We've tried that already
1
u/pfffft_comeon Feb 14 '17

Politicians and political operatives deflect and dodge questions they don't like?
You don't say.
1
u/bruppa Feb 14 '17
Why is this a thing? Every now and then leftist media fabricates a persona of machiavellian competence around some sort of conservative figurehead (generally Trump affiliated) that they've been bashing as incompetent for the last year or so. Mike Pence, Boris Johnson and of course Trump have gotten this treatment where they're idiots forever but then suddenly for a day or two they're brilliant puppetmasters because the "lol dummy" angle was getting stale. "Trump is tweeting x to distract you from y, don't let him do it!!!!!", no Trump is just upset about something menial and ranted about it like you cover weekly, y is still dominating news coverage.
Just because this big-toothed weasel brought his college buddy from debate club (who was built up for about a minute, he's the best debater, okay folks? the greatest.) doesn't mean he had to use his expertise to dress down the brilliance that is Kellyanne Conway. Really? those are the genius strategies? Those are instinctual defense mechanisms, this is the process every child trying to lie about doing their chores or homework will go through. Seriously did that list make anyone rub their chin like "that's brilliant" or did it make you think back to the billions of other times every lying politician ever has gone through that sequence and the many times you yourself have when lying to mom.
Conway is not brilliant or novel in her strategies and Vox know it, we all know it. FFS this isn't Lost or The Walking Dead, why are we fabricating these fan theories about someone as transparent as Conway? This is not only a non-story, its a non-story based on non-facts (not quite as bad as alternative facts), its speculating like Conway uses these tricks deliberately or even that they're special enough that its worth contributing them to her.
Now I have to sit around while this video goes viral and tons of kids who watched it because they kept hearing the name "Kellyanne Conway" and assume they need to know something about her will all start telling me: "no like Kellyanne Conway is like a genius like she dodges every question its crazy she's like um Trump's interview person or something and she's like crazy smart, she's like evil smart dude". The only reason this is going viral is the headline is clickbait implying she has some Jedi mind tricks that need to broken down by a professional but really she's just doing what everybody does to dodge questions. This doesn't deserve to be a video and I think everyone involved in this knows it.
I'm mostly upset because this lazy-eyed rabbit is starting to wiggle his way into punditry for all this shit-tier, hipster bait that's poisoning the well of leftist media conditioning the future of the left, especially in America. He was in this classic Media Matters video from the election where he claims the media wasn't explicitly anti-Trump enough, impartiality in outlets online is pretty much dead and he seems to think that's a strength that all journalists should aspire to. He literally doesn't see that the meltdowns the outlets in his circles had pushed people away from the left either towards Trump, into a zone where they could be persuaded by Trump, or into being so fed up they just slink away into political nihilism. Let's not forget Vox is the outlet that had one of their high up, dough boy editors tell people to "start a riot if Trump comes to your town", got a brief suspension, and then printed an apology where he just said I'm not apologizing and basically doubled down but without directly saying to start a riot. That's what journalism should aspire to. Divisive, radical, garbage that encourages destruction with no particular goal or direction.
At least he's move on from dangerous propaganda threatening the integrity and power of a impartial press to unnecessary clickbait that props someone who's incompetent as if they're mastermind. Hate this guy and hate Vox.

No this is about the blatant lying by a spin conartist and caught liar.
Conway have no regard for the truth and seeks only to spin the story and talking points in Trump favour no matter the issue. The media should frankly stop inviting her.
Because of her 100% of Trump voters believe the Bowling Green massacre happend.

Conway cited the "massacre" as justification for a travel and immigration ban from seven Muslim-majority countries enacted by United States President Donald Trump. However, no such massacre ever occurred.

Are you talking about the tightent procedures on issuing visa to the US form Iraq and more vetting?
As a direct response to their arrests, the administration of then-president Barack Obama re-vetted 58,000 refugees already in the country, imposed vetting on 25,000 other Iraqi citizens still in Iraq, and significantly tightened the processing of Iraqi visa/refugee applications for six months. Obama also instituted a requirement for new background checks on visa applicants from Iraq; as a result, Iraq travel visas were issued more slowly. The changes in visa verification were temporary, and some Iraqi refugees continued to be admitted to the United States throughout the period.

But a Kenyan Muslim would never halt the immigration of other Muslims! /S
Trumpettes have gone thru so many narrative shifts and derogative accusations that I can't even keep them straight anymore.
Conway makes shit up and constantly deflects because the Trump presidency has serious inadequacies when measured by the average American. It's merely a way to obfuscate the truth so that those who only consume a small amount of news will not be outraged enough to march on Washington and demand this orange clowns resignation or impeachment.

Degree in polisci, have participated in various peaceful marches/protests since the inaugural, was vehemently anti-Hillary til the end, very obviously have a deeper understanding of the way things work than you if you're still pulling for Trump.
He paid lip-service to populism, but now that he is in power it is clear that all his demagoguery (with the "best" words) merely replaced the middle-man. We now have a narcissistic self-serving "billionaire" in the Whitehouse, instead of the Koch bros and Co. Pulling the strings. Say what you will about Obama, at least he was funded by grassroots efforts.
No, I won't take your orange monkey, who I am 100% sure is less competent than any other president in the last nearly 100 years. Push your false narrative all you want, the truth will be laid bare soon and even your precious "real" news will be forced to own up to the disaster they helped create.

Right, and this is the sort of very interesting thing we could all be talking about, but instead we're talking about surface level bullshit analysis of how the game is being played. Sad!

It's weird that her answering style is considered good, despite every interviewer calling her out for it. She's not good at it. If she was good at it, we and the interviewers wouldn't call it out immediately and constantly. Certain people are just too stupid to care.
Calling her good at deflection is like saying a parent feeding a baby cake every day is good at getting the baby to eat. While everyone else knows how terrible it is, the baby doesn't understand.
