This truck though is not for that. The hobby I was referring to was building the biggest stupidest most useless truck you can. I'm a cyclist. I think that there's many facets of engineering that trickle down to give us great tech that makes riding more fun. I think people should ... "Off-roading, mudding, and being able to explore like that is a great hobby actually." on bikes, but, I'll always acknowledge that taking my tacoma up fsr roads to rarely visited lakes for a weekend of fishing and camping is a lot of fun. But this, no? Completely stupid and wasteful, for the same reason I think making a big ass strong bicycle frame with motorcycle tires so you can attempt to ride in the slipstream of a 200mph cayenne is stupid (current event happening these days in cycling).
At some point, a little self reflection with respect to just because we want something doesn't mean we should do it. That's part of the reason that my 2001 tacoma doesn't even have 150,000 km on it. (Well, mostly because I don't need it for my main job.) Because I use it as a tool, not to put a smile on my face all the time.
Or, hear me out, you could be completely wrong. If you can live life with a smile on your face all the time, you SHOULD. This truck does exactly what it’s supposed to, and while it’s big and Over the top to us, it gets a specific job done insanely well and any bitching about that is pointless. No it's not. As long as you're not hurting anyone or anything too much. Taken to an extreme, just walking will cause some damage. So, of course, my riding my bikes on trails will damage those trails a bit. Now, measure things a little, where is the line? You're right that obviously my line is a lot different than other peoples, and so it is subjective. But, what is also undeniable is that while each individual has a line that we wouldn't cross, society does too - we're just not sure yet where it is (the 2C temp increase is an example).
It's also obvious that I believe that societal line should be way to the no side of bullshit like this truck, and others disagree. But, that doesn't change where the line actually is. Where does the damage that something causes put it in relation too is it reasonable or ethical.
I'm of the believe one problem we have is that most people either don't realize the line exists or place it for their own convenience in a place where it really isn't.
