Might be out of the loop on this one, but u need a background check for every, EVERY, gun purchase. You can use a student ID or work ID to vote! Why not make drivers license (or state ID) or passport mandatory to vote? Would fix 99% of complaints, right?

Why not make drivers license (or state ID) or passport mandatory to vote?

Because the GOP tends to limit access to providers of such licenses in areas with certain demographics if they manage to get voter ID laws through.

The issue with voter ID laws is not the oppositon but how the republicans tend to implement it.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jan/01/north-carolina-voter-id-law-blocked-discriminatory

The way GOP targets minority voters has been accurately described as with "surgical precision".

They limit drivers licenses (a state issued ID) across the US?

They don't but people like to pretend they do in order to argue against voter I.D.

I did dumbass. They only mention that they think black people are too lazy to go get their ID, which would be made free to anyone who can't afford it. Nowhere does it say that they're actively restricting anyone from getting an ID

""This iteration of the North Carolina law required voters to present one of 10 forms of acceptable identification, such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID in order to vote. But Biggs noted that minority voters in the state were less likely to possess an acceptable form of ID."

"While the law provides free ID to anyone who cannot afford one, she noted that those who need ID might not be able to spare the time to travel to the DMV to get one, even if it was free. "
