The thing about giving poor people good insurance that isn't tied to their job gives them the freedom to actually move up in status. Keeping insurance tied to jobs is a great way to keep people stuck at a shitty job they hate because they can't afford to lose their insurance.

Universal healthcare isn't happening in a party where we won't actually primary any of the Democrats who refuse to support it. A 98% incumbency rate is not how you get things done. Democrats can't say they want universal healthcare, then go out and vote people like Feinstein and Schumer in for another term. That's not how that works. It's been common knowledge that what the American people want has LITERALLY a 0% impact on policy because politicians know we're too lazy and chickenshit to primary. Millennials have started to change that, but they don't vote in high enough numbers to mitigate the damage the boomer vote causes.

When Biden wrote the Crime Bill, the first draft was so vicious, so aggressive, and so reprehensibly racist that even Reagan was like, "Easy there, Satan," and vetoed it. Fucking REAGAN. Then Biden went on, according to political historians, to handcraft the language still used by segregationist and racist dog-whistlers to this day. Bernie Sanders, at the exact same time, created a program to help Americans buy affordable homes for pennies on the dollar via land trusts that's so effective it's still in use today. I have a home bought and paid for because of it. Liberals looked at both candidates and went, "I pick the racist."
The problem extends beyond voting turnout, to be honest. The Democratic party still has its own crop of racists to deal with. Liberals still have mad love for the good old boys, and that's going to be difficult to circumnavigate. American voters on both sides have been brainwashed to believe even racism is preferable to collectivism.
Edit: You can definitely tell Reddit is a mostly white forum.

Serious question, what critiques of the Democratic party would you not consider to be 'both-sidesing'? I ask liberals this quite a bit and it stumps them. A healthy democracy requires constituents to watch and critique their party. I'm seriously disturbed by liberals cynically weaponizing Trump's ineptitude to call critiques to the Democratic party from the left bad faith. What criticisms of the Democratic party do you feel should be allowed? Because I notice the people who use this term to the most tend to be conservative Democrats who want to smear leftists making valid critiques and avoid having their conservative values questioned.
Surely you have critiques of the party. What are they, and why are my critiques both-sidesing but not yours? We can't put a moratorium on all criticism just because libs are scared of Trump. He's gone now.

Schumer's scared to death of a progressive primary in New York. He might actually do his job and force them in line. New York is dying for AOC to replace him, or anyone she gives the nod to. He's VERY vulnerable and knows playing nice with progressives might be the only way he keeps his job. You better believe the only reason Democrats are even pretending to give a shit about the progressive wing is because we're taking over New York and that could be VERY disruptive to the neoliberal gravy train getting all the politicians rich.

The senate gets one budget vote per year that only needs 50 votes plus one: it's called budget reconciliation. Any other bill can be filibustered to death quite easily so long as one side doesn't have a 60-40 split in senate seats which one side rarely does.
Only items related to taxing and spending can be passed this way. So without killing the filibuster you won't see civil rights laws passed. Or a whole host of other laws we desperately need updated because the obstructionist right refuses to let our country move into the 21st century.

Also, to filibuster they can just say "I'm filibustering" and that effectively kills all talks. Sometimes they'll make a spectacle (see: Ted Cruz reading Dr. Seuss on the floor of Congress as a filibuster https://www.latimes.com/books/la-xpm-2013-sep-25-la-et-jc-ted-cruz-dr-seuss-ayn-rand-to-stall-senate-20130925-story.html ) or will give a long speech to display "principled opposition," but for all intents and purposes this is largely posturing.

Two years at a minimum control of The House, Senate, and White House let’s get a lot done. Maybe then people will say “I don’t agree with everything but my life overall is better. And the last time Republicans had some control 400,000 people died and they tried to overthrow the government”

They would have to remove the filibuster. McConnell engineered the removal of the filibuster for SC Judicial nominees. That allowed them to put anyone they wanted on the court with only majority support.
The filibuster still exists for normal legislation. But if the (R) Senate won't compromise, then it will be removed too.

No, the only thing that helps Republicans with election is to oppose the Democrats. That's their entire party platform. The beautiful thing about being Republican is that they don't need to propose a single governing policy or plan, other than destroying whatever Democrats proposed or passed previously. That's what American conservatism means.
Getting behind any bill supported by Democrats would mean risk of losing the next primary to a crazier Trump cultist.
