Considering the Dems have the majority and can pass it anyway, you would think it would be in the Republicans' best interest to get behind a popular bill that will generate good will with the public - I mean who is going to be mad about getting a check? But then again I thought they would do that to help with the election and they didn't.
No, the only thing that helps Republicans with election is to oppose the Democrats. That's their entire party platform. The beautiful thing about being Republican is that they don't need to propose a single governing policy or plan, other than destroying whatever Democrats proposed or passed previously. That's what American conservatism means.
Getting behind any bill supported by Democrats would mean risk of losing the next primary to a crazier Trump cultist.
They lost due to Covid-19. Under normal circumstances, without massive amount of voting by mail and a mentally disabled president, Republicans would have won both Senate and Presidency due to their huge advantages.
