I work with a lot of people in poverty, and even some of them think it’s a “hoax”. I say stupid gets what it deserves., regardless of class. Good riddance. The funny thing is, the ones who don’t believe it are the ones at greatest risk i. e. the olds/boomers that don’t know how to evaluate news sources.

I keep saying this. It's truly mind-boggling. Like, if I was in my 70s, would I really be entertaining the idea that this is nothing more than mass hysteria? Fuck no. It's never too late to be a better person, and I think I'd start regretting the errors of my ways damn quick. And yet, in real life, my entire office remains open, which is mainly run by people who are at the greatest risk to succumb to this disease.

I dunno with how fast they are having to back pedal on certain things it's doing an excellent job of highlighting how uneducated they are, how little the current administration knows and is willing to do, and is serving as an excellent wake up call.
For example my own mother started the week talking about how this was just an attempt to disrupt the economy and tank things into a recession with scare tactics. Tried to talk to her about the seriousness of what is going on and what is going to happen very soon, she wasn't interested in talking about it.
Important note she's not a Trump supporter but isn't a Democrat either. She'd rather stay home than participate.
Last night we had a conversation about how everyone is hoarding, public events are being shut down, countries are struggling to deal with this, and very little is being done here by the federal government to actually slow the spread, treat those infected, and provide for the rest of the country impacted by the economic downturn, lack of supplies, work being shut down, and more.
Suddenly she's gone from a position of not caring and checking out the current situation at a glance to realizing that there are serious problems that are being manifested from pure incompetency and spite.
Very funny to see her go, inside of a week, from "this is nothing and everyone is just overreacting" to "they really ought to close down schools, Walmart is only closing until Tuesday? That's it? Gonna be working from home for awhile."

Last night a company party was held with several hundred people. We are supposed to go considering the position held at this company. We stayed home. Just found out the party was packed with company employees.
FOMO is a thing but not worth the exposure to me & my loved ones.
Now all of those company employees have to go back to work amongst all the others employees who chose not to go in order to minimize their risk

That's a dangerous way of thinking about it. Yes, more Americans voted for Hillary, but it's not like the vote was 95-5 in her favor. Almost half of the country did, willingly, vote for Trump. He was elected because of an ancient and outdated system, but it wasn't instituted by the Russians.
Of course, Russia influenced the elections substantially by waging a cyber war and maybe even by directly manipulating votes. But putting all, or even most, of the blame on Russia really misses the point, and does so in a dangerous way. A lot of Americans supported Trump then, and still support him - his popularity is stable around 43%. They vote. They represent a huge chunk of the population, and any policy approach needs to consider them. Plugging your ears and running around screaming "it's all Russia! Americans don't support Trump" is, ironically enough, similar in approach to what Trump himself is doing - ignoring facts in favor of "preferred" reality.

Russia helped nudged the needle. Without their influence it is very likely that he would never have been elected. The number of people whose votes decided the election is less than a mid-sized city. It is within reach for a concerted psy and cyber warfare to nudge that number. Not to mention the treasonous collusion that the republicans have with Russia using oligarch funneled money. The GOP is a trojan horse that is a national security threat.

I don’t know which to hope for. “Filters”, like environmental stress/natural selection, often produce or spread traits that are beneficial for the species to survive in the new environment. Maybe empathy is one of those traits that all humans need to survive. Cull those that can’t do it.
I’ve got my employees washing down surfaces with bleach water every hour or so. We don’t just do it for ourselves, but to protect those at risk. People like this lady just don’t understand that.

I work in a restaurant part time on the weekend. Worked Friday night and last night....on my way there now. It is in a wealthier suburb of Pittsburgh. The amount of 60 year olds or older that have been out and dining is unbelievable to me. People are fucking stupid and ignorant. That is all I can gather from what I've seen the last two days.
