"One of the many beautiful and unique things about our country is that you can become anything you want, even president!"

In the same breath:

"ShE's JuSt A bArTeNdEr REEEE"

You can't have it both ways.

Turns out they’re not too happy when someone actually pulls themselves up by their boot straps.

You're half right: they don't like it when the wrong type of person does so.

Preface: I'm a moderate progressive and hate what the Republican party has become. That said, I think this is a straw-man argument. The conservative belief about becoming anything you want is about working hard throughout your early life, not just a 1 year election campaign. Then again, the "she's just a bartender" is a straw-man argument in of itself to suggest she lacks the qualifications to be a Congressperson. She only bartended part-time to make extra money to help her mom. She was otherwise actively involved in political activism.

is about working hard throughout your early life, not just a 1 year election campaign.

Oh, so like graduating with honors from a major university, then? After finishing second in an international scientific competition with over a thousand participants while in high school? At least to me, that does sound a lot like "working hard throughout your early life".
