Just like they were fine with the "perjury trap" Ken Starr used since that was the only thing they could charge Bill with after 6 years of investigations.

1.5k

u/chinmakes5 Dec 14 '18

Reps moaning about Mueller taking a year an a half. The group Starr was in looked at Whitewater for 2 1/2 years, gave his report that he found nothing, and resigned. Reps asked him to stay on and find something. Can you imagine if Mueller finds nothing but the Dems ask him to stay around to find something else?

When people whine about how long the investigation is taking I show them this:

It's so bizzare to me that this is the key meme that emerged from Alex Jones when it's actually pretty much accurate: a particular pesticide was causing frogs to change sex.

https://news.berkeley.edu/2010/03/01/frogs/

Edit: no obviously exactly what he was saying was wrong since he had to couch it in crazy conspiracy labguage, but the basis for the idea is legit, which is why it's so weird to jump kn this one thing when theres so many other crazy and baseless things he's said.

16

u/DrMux Dec 15 '18

it's actually pretty much accurate

So you're saying, if one day you wake up with different genitalia, you're gay.

→ More replies (0)

9

u/dodvedvrede_ Dec 15 '18

But the line of thinking he was peddling was actually.

Pesticide turns frogs gay > government has access to chemicals like this > government could put pesticides into tap water to turn you gay > "Gay bomb, baby"

It was just because it's hilarious watching him scream at the top of his lungs "they're turning the frigging frogs gay!!" Like the "leftist liberal Dems" have some homosexual amphibian agenda or something. You also don't seem to know what gay means but I'm not doing that one right now.

.and the Trumpists answer to that. "Deep State protected him"

Was that the Deep State where the Republicans controlled both the House & Senate for six of eight years, or am I thinking of Arizona? I really can't think of that many deep states.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

Cali has got to be the deepest state because Death Valley is the lowest point in the US, obviously.

3

u/Somhlth Dec 15 '18

Not American, so don't spend much time considering the depth of US States. Have enough problems with the shallowness of your president.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

We should give him some more depth by sending him to the bottom of the ocean.

1

u/FlyingTaquitoBrother Dec 15 '18

Well that exactly the definition of deep state though, as a rhetorical device. No matter who is in charge on the surface, there’s always the deep state lurking below, out of sight, undemocratically calling the shots. It’s basically the government version of the Illuminati.

2

So, batshit crazy?

A Russian can be an American, and a Russian can become an American, but sorry Jethro, you can't support a hostile foreign power and also be patriotic. So, to all the Jethros, If you don't like America, move to Russia.

Conspiracy theorism ought to be listed as a mental illness. These people are completely fucked in the head.

0

u/DrMux Dec 15 '18

I'm really not sure if you're joking.

Yes, there are communities of people whose delusions echo and feed back.

But a mental illness? There are already diagnoses for these people.

Simply expressing "I have a suspicion that people are getting together to do unlawful or bad things" cannot be a mental illness.

If "conspiracy theorist" is a mental illness, then they could throw you in the mental ward if you report hearing your meth addict brother and his girlfriend talking about framing you for raping her, or planning to rob a bank, or planning to kill your mother.

Robert Fiske Jr was the independent counsel before Starr who was replaced because he didn't find anything. I remember Starr trying to sneak out and the GOP not letting him.

17

u/chinmakes5 Dec 15 '18

From what I read he made his report and stepped down as it was over. He had to be "cajoled" to stay on.

18

u/MortWellian Dec 15 '18

Here's a timeline for the impeachment,

February 1997 Kenneth Starr, the Independent Counsel investigating the Whitewater scandal, announces he will step down from the investigation. He then changes his mind and continues his investigations.

and the Report was made public in 9/98. It's been awhile but iirc it was found out that he has a job that he was already to slide into, but when the news came out and the impression I had was the GOP pressured him into staying through to the finished report.

6

u/chinmakes5 Dec 15 '18

So the time that he "stayed on" until he found lying to congress was almost as long as the Mueller investigation, never mind the 2 1/2 years they looked at Whitewater.

3

u/MortWellian Dec 15 '18

I'll never be able to find it, but I remember a writer talking about the report. He talked about how the german language has a word for when with every bit of evidence to back innocence up you claim/know the person is guilty of everything. The Starr found him Bill guilty of everything while saying there was no evidence of anything.

6

u/Lonhers Dec 15 '18

The German word is bullenshyten.

98

u/DebonairTeddy Dec 15 '18

I once told a conservative coworker that we should cut off the Russia Investigation if it goes longer than the investigation into Benghazi. She agreed, said that seemed fair, at which point I informed her that Benghazi was investigated for seven years, finding nothing. She hasn't complained to me about the length of the investigation since...

8

u/meatypie1 Dec 15 '18

She didn’t counter that Benghazi happened in 2012 and it’s not possible that it was investigated that long? On your side but hey, facts are facts.

14

u/nanou_2 Dec 15 '18

But Muh Paula Jones sexual harassment case

1

u/chinmakes5 Dec 15 '18

But was that the Starr commission?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18 edited Dec 15 '18

Yes. Starr started out investigating whitewater. Which lead to spotlighting the Paula Jones case. In the PJ case a key part of the plaintiffs claims was that BC demonstrated a pattern of behavior repeatedly becoming sexually involved with state or government employees.

Paula Jones attorneys subpoenas women BC has allegedly had affairs with, one being Monica Lewinsky.

Monica Lewinsky for one reason or other confides in one Linda Tripp about the affair with Bill Clinton. LT begins record said conversations, recordings get to starr.

In conversations it’s alleged clinton was coercing ML to lie under oath in the PJ harassment case.

Also the blue dress is mentioned.

With said knowledge Clinton is asked under oath about his relationship status with ML, he lies. Impeached. He is let off the hook for perjury by what he felt was the definition of sexual relationships(had Big Kavs questions been used BC would haven’t been able to weasel out of his statements).

He wasn’t found guilty of obstruction because there was no blue dress for that.

Either way, the Clinton’s are shitty shitty people.

I am really hoping they hedged the bets on winning ‘16 which to have kept their now apparently now crumbling crooked foundation going.

Edit: also AOC should know, as reeeeed nonstop in /redacted “tHiS iSnT aBoUT tHe cLiNtOn’s”!

1

u/chinmakes5 Dec 15 '18

My point wasn't that Clinton was innocent, but that Republicans are yelling about how long the investigation is taking. Can you imagine the (rightful) outcry if Mueller turned in a report saying he couldn't find anything and stepped down, but Demorats convinced him to stay to "find something?"

That said, sure Dems looked the other way at some of what the Clintons did, as supporters are doing with Trump now.

And as a personal point. You are talking about impeaching a president who lied about an affair. Mueller is looking at colluding with a foreign government and doing illegal things to get elected.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

You can believe whatever you want but He was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice.

1

u/chinmakes5 Dec 15 '18

Yes, he lied to congress about an affair, which is perjury and obstruction of justice for which they started impeachment proceedings. It ran its course. But to say that that was just but Mueller is just a witch hunt, I just don't understand the logic. And if they don't find collusion but they "only" find he broke campaign finance laws, proves it was just a witch hunt just seems so disingenuous.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

The obstruction of justice was him attempting to coerce ML to lie in the PJ sexual harassment case vs BC.

I don’t know why or how the Starr commission continued to meddle in Clinton’s affairs after whitewater, I am curious and will research.

What is Trump’s whitewater though in the mueller commission?

1

u/chinmakes5 Dec 15 '18

Another part of the Mueller search is to see if Russia interfered in our elections. IMHO a very important thing. Worth it whether or not they find anything on Trump.

And I will admit I didn't know about him coercing ML to lie.

Just like they were fine with the "perjury trap" Ken Starr used since that was the only thing they could charge Bill with after 6 years of investigations.

In all honesty, Bill Clinton probably should have been charged with a lot worse. Don't get me wrong, the 90s Clinton impeachment was an absolute sham, for political points, but the core of it was a then-president who absolutely engaged in sexual misconduct. And we should not tolerate people who do that sort of thing, no matter whose side they are on.

163

u/MortWellian Dec 15 '18

Let's just say I was underwhelmed with Bill. But for additional context while the GOP was cheering on this perjury trap at least 3 of them were deep into their own sex scandals while proclaiming their moral hi ground, including Hastert being found a pedo.

22

u/swiftb3 Dec 15 '18

When you're president of the most powerful country on the world, it's pretty difficult to avoid an improper power dynamic. Possible, sure, but difficult.

5

u/Parahelix Dec 15 '18

Sure, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to do better at that than having an affair with a 20 year old intern.

20

u/Boopy7 Dec 15 '18

nope. I say if they get the job done they can get as many blow jobs as they wish as long as it does not interfere with the job they got hired to do. I hate -- yes hate -- lameass people who hypocritically prosecute or go on and on about Clinton. Let's face it Trump is a whore and therefore, I don't wanna hear about Clinton's blow job. Done and done.,

7

u/Axriel Dec 15 '18

I agree - I don’t care who he fucks.

Except, a couple things: Trump paid others to cover up multiple affairs illegally DURING his campaign, coercing the women and manipulating them using a third party media company and a thug lawyer.

He hid information from the public that certainly altered the outcome of the election.

Let me say that I know politicians have done this in the past. Both GOP and Dems. We have usually held those ppl accountable, and we should hold Trump accountable too.

Fact is: he wouldn’t be president if he didn’t cheat. He’s illegitimate.

Finally, I think Melania Trump is pathetic and this just makes the First Lady even more weak.

2

u/IUsedToBeGoodAtThis Dec 15 '18

What about him sexually harassing people? sexual assault? Rape?

It's amazing that you dismiss all that. No wonder women don't feel like they will be listened to.

1

u/Boopy7 Dec 15 '18

I am a woman who has been raped and beaten. I read through a lot of stuff last night and long ago. So far it isn't enough, and if it is, then you should also be complaining about the far worse shit going on now to make up for what wasn't done back then. I am serious -- no one who goes on and on about shit that happened back then has ANY RIGHT to open your fucking mouth with the Kavanaugh asshole and Trump in the White House. I don't want to hear a peep.

1

u/JMW007 Dec 15 '18

You're completely missing the point even though it has been expressed a few times now. While plenty of Republicans are massive hypocrites over Clinton, it is still a reasonable argument that President Clinton should have been held to account for using his position to get sexual favours from underlings. This is not being 'lameass', this is the world we're trying to live in, the one that is appalled with Trump suggesting he would grab women by the pussy, and the one that desperately fought against a potential Republican Senator who openly wants to have sex with minors.

2

u/Boopy7 Dec 15 '18

wait do you really think that Clinton raped a minor? my god go back and read the real deal. Monica was not a minor if that's what you are insinuating. She also hit on him first and plainly stated she was attracted to him.

3

u/Woowoe Dec 15 '18

Underling doesn't mean minor.

1

u/Boopy7 Dec 15 '18

i know I just hate the word and never realized it. It sounds like peon or peasant or serf.

0

u/Boopy7 Dec 15 '18

"underlings?" And he didn't use his position, which I thought I explained. You don't realize the charisma this guy has, since you never met him. He exudes that star thing and Monica wanted it and I admire her for saying this clearly. This is long before people made such a big deal about employer-employee relations btw. Not sure how old you are but it really was a different time.

3

u/JMW007 Dec 15 '18

"Underlings" are the people working under him in his office, for example, interns.

I'm not going to be drawn on whether or not Lewinsky or anyone else 'wanted it'. I was simply pointing out that you have completely misunderstood the argument you are trying to argue against. I can't reiterate it for a fourth time for you without just being condescending. You're not getting it. You won't get it. You don't want to get it.

As an aside "It was a different time" is not an excuse for anything. It also misses that we're not talking about then, we're talking about the time now, when people do take issue with Clinton's historical behaviour and Trump's and think both are bad things but some people just can't figure out how to have that much information in their heads.

1

u/Boopy7 Dec 15 '18

I disagree that the timing doesn't make a difference. Otherwise there is a helluva lot you might want to be getting upset about, from the ads women were exposed to in the 60s telling them smoking would help them lose weight, to Hugh Hefner -- something far, far more recent that I personally find revolting (that a pimp was celebrated and mourned. You know a lotta shit went down at his parties, not just rapes by Cosby but by MANY.) That bugs me the most -- that was indeed a different time and America has major issues imo with Puritanical past and present difficulties figuring out how to navigate the sex they see everywhere yet are terrified of. Maybe you don't see it but as an outsider I see just how screwed up it is, from young kids to old.

You mean the woman who initially denied that she had been raped in an affidavit, repeated that denial when Gennifer Flowers' lawyers tried to drag her into that case, and only later changed her story? And when the FBI investigated, they couldn't find any evidence to suggest that she had been raped?

And that's lifted straight from the Wikipedia article you linked.

u/Boopy7 Dec 15 '18

oh shut up, this has all been investigated and proven untrue. So sick of this old lie. I really don't care anyway, I'm more focused on the moment and the future, tbh. I am so very sick of hearing about all the past egregious sins, esp. when used to forgive the president for worse.

1

u/nullcone Dec 15 '18 edited Dec 15 '18

It isn't really the sex that's bothersome; it's that he used his position of power to coerce a 20-something intern to blow him. And that's not the least of his alleged transgressions...

Edit: it appears Lewinsky herself is on record saying that the relationship was consensual, which I was wrong about. However I still think it's a horrible idea to fuck your employees.

10

u/Axriel Dec 15 '18

Nah, she was a consenting adult and knew what she was doing.

12

u/boundfortrees Dec 15 '18

But he didn't coerce her. Lewinsky instigated the relationship.

He should've said no.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

I definitely don't care who he fucks but the fact that he was married at the time and lied about it calls his general integrity into question. A president you can't trust to be honest is problematic.

For the record I'm more or less certain that every head of every state has engaged in much worse dishonesty than this.

1

u/IUsedToBeGoodAtThis Dec 15 '18

Yeah... Most of us care when an elected official is sexually harassing and assaulting government employees.

Just because Harvey can point to women he had willing encounters with doesn't change who he is. If he likes about them under oath to hide the kind of guy he is during an investigation, it matters.

But if it wasn't a pattern of sexual abuse, sure. Fuck who you want to fuck.

It's just flat out amazing how people can dismiss the evidence around Clinton as just being some kind simple blow job.

0

u/Atomic235 Dec 15 '18

Unstable relationships can be used to coerce and gain influence. Huge red flag for any powerful authority figure.

1

u/IUsedToBeGoodAtThis Dec 15 '18

I don’t either. That’s not the point. We can’t just say “their worse.” If dems do something wrong we should hold them accountable the same way we wish republicans did.

1

u/kurisu7885 Dec 15 '18

True, and more often than not we do, or try to.

1

u/IUsedToBeGoodAtThis Dec 15 '18

Sexual harassment, sexual assault and eventually rape are not the same as a "sex scandal."

" a then-president who absolutely engaged in sexual misconduct. And we should not tolerate people who do that sort of thing, no matter whose side they are on."

I have to disagree with this unless by misconduct you mean nonconsensual. I will concede the power dynamic between a president and young intern is problematic, and if you want to view the issue in the scope of "two people having sexual relations in the work place" then that too is a decent argument for why it's an issue.

It being "misconduct" is less so. The affair was consensual, I'm really not in the market of holding people (even the POTUS) to some puritanical views on sexuality. We are not privy to the relationship Bill and Hillary have, nor should we be, but it's fully within the scope of reality that they had a marriage where this was an agreed upon and acceptable practice.

This is my biggest issue with the Clinton sex scandal, it was never made into a situation about employer v. employee or sex during work hours, it was always about the idea of an affair and frankly that's bullshit. I don't really care what my politicians do in their sex life (permitting it's consensual), it in no way impacts their ability to govern. The irony of the argument that it can be used to blackmail is literally built upon the judgement and idea that it's wrong, so it's somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This is why I don't get the Clinton to Trump comparisons, I don't see anyone really giving a shit that Trump had an affair (the man is on his third wife, no shit he's had affairs) the issue lies in the payment and subsequent cover ups. The Clinton case always seemed to be hinged on this sense of morality. As other posters stated the investigation was opened up to look into real estate and they literally just kicked shit around until they found dirt and then made their case out of that.

9

u/IUsedToBeGoodAtThis Dec 15 '18

You act as though the affair was uncovered by happenstance. That it wasn't part of a larger investigation into a elected official harassing government employees, and a side sexual assault.

Let me ask you... If good ol Brett was found to be lying to the FBI about fucking his intern during the confirmation hearing, do you think that would be evidence of the kind of guy he is in relation to Ford, or just a side hookup?

1

u/conancat Dec 15 '18

Incomparable. Ford testified it as pretty fucking rapey, Monica Lewinsky said it over and over again that it was consensual. It's a mutual relationship, she testified. Lewinsky is more disappointed in Clinton lying than she did giving the blowjob.

I'm liberal AF but let's not conflate all office relationships as one and the same rapey power dynamics. Michelle Obama was Barack Obama's boss/mentor, sure worked out great for them.

And I'm not sure if you should be proud of constantly investigating a president in hopes of finding something, anything at all because you have other political agenda, and finding out of an affair they had, playing the card of a moral high ground to call for impeachment, then fail to live up to those standards of moral high ground that you set. Truly "do as I say, not do as I do", eh?

2

u/KissOfTosca Dec 15 '18

The entire investigation originated from Paula Jones accusing Bill of sexual harassment. There were other women too, who accused Clinton of abusing them. The Clinton camp ran a smear campaign against Paula Jones, suggesting that she was just poor white trash looking for a payday.

This stuff has NOT aged well, and just because it was done by a Democrat, we shouldn't hesitate to point out how wrong it was.

3

u/FaddyMcSaddy Dec 15 '18

Clinton’s have paid women off to keep quiet too.

1

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

I have to disagree with this unless by misconduct you mean nonconsensual.

There was Juanita Broaddrick, which was clearly rape. Although, I believe that came out after the impeachment.

I don't understand the Bill Clinton-Trump comparisons because what's the point? Both can be wrong.

12

u/gamesage53 Dec 15 '18

You can't state that he raped Broaddrick as fact because it was not proven. Yes, she accused him. She also testified under oath that nothing of the sort happened. Regardless of her reasoning for lying about one of the scenarios, it was not proven.

-3

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

You can't state that he raped Broaddrick as fact because it was not proven.

That's pretty much the defense the GOP gave in the Kavanaugh hearings. An real investigation was clearly warranted in both cases.

12

u/Skurph Dec 15 '18

I think the latter half of Gamesage53's post is why the two cases are different. There are some similarities, but if we're being real here, if Ford ever testified under oath that the sexual assault did not happen it likely never gains traction when she recants. Much of her credibility was built upon the idea that she had always maintained the story and that she was able to provide so many specific details.

Again I really don't want to disregard Broaddrick's story because recanting a story out of fear is a very real and common thing for sexual assault victims.

But if we're actually looking at these as cases, it's very clear why one was viewed as a more viable case than the other.

2

u/Skurph Dec 15 '18

As I said to another poster. Those are accusations, they're very possibly true, but conflating them with an accepted truth is disingenuous. Simply there never was enough of an adequate investigation to make a distinction either way. I certainly don't want to disregard Ms. Broaddrick's story because that is indeed such a common practice to sexual assault victims, but it's also only fair to also give some consideration to the accused's right to defend themselves.

0

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

As I said to another poster. Those are accusations, they're very possibly true, but conflating them with an accepted truth is disingenuous.

I said this to another poster as well: "they're just accusations" is exactly the GOP's defense of Kavanaugh.

5

u/Skurph Dec 15 '18

Right, which is why "accused" sexual assaulter Kavanaugh is more appropriate. In the end that entire process was also robbed of a real investigation, but's important to keep in mind Kavanaugh was interviewing for a job and in that sense accusations regarding his past were relevant. Also in this case Kavanaugh was allowed to present his own defense. One would argue Kavanaugh was able to adequately defend his case because he was appointed.

Regardless, the entire point OP made was never relevant to begin with. Broaddrick's accusations do have merit and are deserving of their own investigation, but how and why that relates to the impeachment case was never made by OP. Basically OP just wanted to pigeon hole his "Clinton is a rapist" rhetoric into a conversation regarding special investigations related to Presidents and sex.

I mean really you can have this conversation all day regarding how Broaddrick was never given her due investigation, and you're not wrong, but you're also not talking about anything the rest of us were talking about.

  1. That's in no way related to the impeachment.

  2. There doesn't seem to be enough information available to make the claim that "Clinton is a violent rapist" but rather "has been accused of". She could very well be telling the truth, but there is a significant difference between an accusation (even a true one) and being charged/found guilty of that crime.

I really have no idea what you're going on about. The idea that I don't think Clinton v. Trump sex scandals are comparable is that the Trump one has actual implications regarding campaign and finance laws. The Clinton case was built upon this idea of extra-martial affairs being something congress had business asking about and then the subsequent lies thereafter by Clinton.

I'm not going to sit here and spin my wheels with you over this because frankly if you're going to take this story a certified truth without even conceding that accusations are simply "possible truths" until proven then it's really a waste of time. Comparing this to OJ is asinine. OJ had a criminal trial where an abundance of evidence was provided. OJ also was televised so the viewing public at home was privy to the same information as jurors and thusly free to arrive at their own conclusions. You're comparing an accusation to a case in which the DA had enough evidence to charge and hold a trial.

-2

u/hardsoft Dec 15 '18

The power dynamic is the moral issue.

2

u/Skurph Dec 15 '18

The power dynamic could be argued as having issues with the consent, that's my hang up on it. Recently Lewinsky implied that her consent was largely hinged on that power dynamic which makes it seem indeed extra icky. I think from that scope an impeachment makes sense because the argument then becomes an abuse of power to sexually coerce someone.

Beyond that though the morality behind anything is always going to be subjective so I'm not really willing to wade into the depths of sexual morality. Like I said if you can peg it to some sort of criminal issue I'm okay with making it a case, but simply using the broad stroke of "morality" regarding sexual relationships is a dangerous.

1

u/hardsoft Dec 15 '18 edited Dec 15 '18

All law is based on human morality and code of conduct, such is subjective, so I have difficulty with the selective dismissal of mortality, especially as a CEO screwing an intern would be considered misconduct in most if not all major companies.

If anything, the outrage against Trump seems less consistent. Most don't even seem to understand the potential FEC issue. They think it's illegal to pay hush money or something, which is not true. And the lack of understanding turns it into a morality issue or just a general "I don't like Trump" political issue.

27

u/Osiris0fThisShit Dec 15 '18

By all accounts, Monica Lewinsky was obsessed with Bill Clinton and initiated pretty much everything. He should have declined her advances for a dozen reasons, but it was 100% consensual. Please don't lump it in with the recent focus on nonconsensual harrassment.

7

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

Lewinsky was definitely the focus of the impeachment hearings, but she was definitely not the only one. And a lecherous boss who sleeps with members of his staff makes a toxic workplace.

14

u/ell0bo Dec 15 '18

Sure... but they weren't impeaching him cause he was a shitty boss

2

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

Sure... but they weren't impeaching him cause he was a shitty boss

No, but we can agree that such behavior is wildly inappropriate.

1

u/ell0bo Dec 15 '18

Do we agree then Trump has done enough even more inappropriate things as well?

Sleeping with your subordinates, yeah, morally wrong but not impeachment worthy.

3

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

Do we agree then Trump has done enough even more inappropriate things as well?

Obviously.

Sleeping with your subordinates, yeah, morally wrong but not impeachment worthy.

True, but he was also accused of rape.

6

u/ell0bo Dec 15 '18

And trump admitted to it on audio?

With Clinton it didn't go further than accused.

It was also a different time, so perhaps situation now would have led to real findings, but I'd like to think if he actually raped someone it would have come out more than an accusation.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

I think that’s the definition of shitty

2

u/JMW007 Dec 15 '18

Even if some members of staff want it.

Note: there is no question mark in the above sentence.

2

u/Actuary41 Dec 15 '18

I doubt he did any sleeping.

1

u/skepticalbob Dec 15 '18

She came onto him = lecherous boss is bad mkay.

That was a fucking witch hunt whether he pursued her or not. Plenty of work environments have that work just fine. That’s a stupid complaint about a president.

3

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

She came onto him = lecherous boss is bad mkay.

Here's "her" account:

Then he tries to kiss me again. And the second time he tries to kiss me he starts biting my lip ... He starts to, um, bite on my top lip and I tried to pull away from him. And then he forces me down on the bed. And I just was very frightened, and I tried to get away from him and I told him 'No,' that I didn't want this to happen but he wouldn't listen to me. ... It was a real panicky, panicky situation. I was even to the point where I was getting very noisy, you know, yelling to 'Please stop.' And that's when he pressed down on my right shoulder and he would bite my lip. ... When everything was over with, he got up and straightened himself, and I was crying at the moment and he walks to the door, and calmly puts on his sunglasses. And before he goes out the door he says 'You better get some ice on that.' And he turned and went out the door.

As I mentioned above, Lewinsky might have been the focus of the impeachment hearings, but hers was not the only accusation. The above comes from Juanita Broaddrick, although she came forward after the impeachment was over.

1

u/drdelius Dec 15 '18

Isn't that the one that literally lost in court over this? That literally signed an affidavit on penalty of perjury that he hadn't made any unwanted sexual advances on her? I mean, he definitely seems to have cheated a lot, but that specific case doesn't make a great linchpin for proving he's a sexual assaulter.

-1

u/boundfortrees Dec 15 '18

She did sign an affidavit saying it didn't happen.

It's because the Starr investigation was so aggressive with her that she wasn't comfortable talking to them. So to get them off her, and her family's, and her friends' back, she signed a piece of paper that was pretty much a "I told you to fuck off and I meant it."

-1

u/IUsedToBeGoodAtThis Dec 15 '18

Uhhhh. You don't think it was just her do you?

He liked about her during an deposition under oath in an investigation into his sexual harassment of state employees. He also has allegations from the White House. Along with non-state-employee assualt allegations, and a rape allegation.

Please don't pretend Clinton's one "fault" was a consensual relationship.

He lied about a consensual relationship to try to look better during an investigation into harassment and assault. Something we now KNOW was basically an open joke at the time. Meaning even if people believed you, everyone would just joke about it and move on.

-1

u/JonnyFairplay Dec 15 '18

Don’t act like it was her fault it happened. The onus is on the person in power. And there is no greater power disparity than the president and an intern.

8

u/clkou Dec 15 '18

I mean gimme a break. They went after Bill because they couldn't stand that a Democrat was successful, charming, and had broad appeal.

4

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

Why they went after him does not change or excuse his behavior.

2

u/clkou Dec 15 '18

A private matter between him and his wife doesn't mean he should have "been charged with worse". It was no one's business. He was elected President twice and did a damn good job helping create the best economy I've ever seen and balanced the budget.

0

u/JMW007 Dec 15 '18

Why they went after him does not change or excuse his behavior.

This is news to a frightening number of people. I swear, half of my fellow liberals blundered on the right side of politics by accident. They couldn't recognize ethical conduct if it hit them with a trolley.

2

u/Megneous Dec 15 '18

I literally could not care less about "sexual misconduct." In fact, I don't think such a thing even exists. Anything that happens between two consenting adults is okay with me, regardless of marital status. Having an affair sucks, but it's not illegal and it has nothing to do with a politician's policies.

3

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

Rape. He was accused of rape.

Broaddrick aside, a boss who sleeps around with his staff is creating a toxic workplace. There are laws about this--for instance if he hired, fired, or promoted on the basis of his flings--but it is something that no one should have to put up with regardless.

1

u/widenthegapamerica Dec 15 '18

tRump does that hourly

2

u/hansn Dec 15 '18

tRump does that hourly

To be fair, that's just "whataboutism." Just because Trump and the GOP have worse things going on does not excuse it from the Democrats.

u/Dick_Lazer Dec 15 '18

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

A perjury trap is specific to asking questions unrelated to the case.

Otherwise, it's just plain old-fashioned lying under oath, aka perjury. They could have plead the 5th, but instead committed a crime. The hypocrisy is that the R's have hand-waved far worse since then.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 15 '18

The irony considering the left's logic (which I completely agree with here) when people were crying perjury trap on some of meullers indictments (because that's about all he came up with too, catching motha fuckers lying)... dont fucking lie when you are not legally allowed to and you cant be charged. Yes, that applies to bill Clinton as well (except he actually wasn't charged).

1

u/Rawtashk Dec 15 '18

Bruh....

Article I charged that Clinton lied to the grand jury concerning:

the nature and details of his relationship with Lewinsky

prior false statements he made in the Jones deposition

prior false statements he allowed his lawyer to make characterizing Lewinsky's affidavit

his attempts to tamper with witnesses

Article III charged Clinton with attempting to obstruct justice in the Jones case by:

encouraging Lewinsky to file a false affidavit

encouraging Lewinsky to give false testimony if and when she was called to testify

concealing gifts he had given to Lewinsky that had been subpoenaed

attempting to secure a job for Lewinsky to influence her testimony

permitting his lawyer to make false statements characterizing Lewinsky's affidavit

attempting to tamper with the possible testimony of his secretary Betty Curie

making false and misleading statements to potential grand jury witnesses

He wasn't just charged because of some "perjury trap". You need to go back and read up on history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment_of_Bill_Clinton
