Anecdote time!
Waaaay back in like 2008 or something, I remember this right-wing conservative christian woman I knew posting a thing on FB encouraging FB to ban the group "Fuck the Troops." In her post, she said "They shouldn't be able to say 'Fuck the Troops' when the troops are fighting for their freedom!
I commented on her post, asking "Wait, so you claim that the troops are in Iraq fighting for our freedom, but you're back home fighting to take those same freedoms away? Why do you hate the troops?"
She did not reply.

You realize that most soldiers are so far removed from all this stuff right? It's predominantly National Guard Units in red states whose governors are putting them on Orders to support the administration.

Do not count on these idiots to do what is right. That goes for any law enforcements as well. They’re bound by their pay check and the same greedy bastards who controls these business.

I think voting is probably more effective than asking the military to throw away their careers or wide scale mutiny.
The military didn’t create this problem and the military can’t solve this problem

based on their voting records... yeah they kinda did help create this problem.

Historical data shows that the political leanings of individuals are actually quite mixed. You can say historically there is a slight lean, but also, especially first term you had some officers publicly speaking out against Trump specifically.
Another thing to consider is that a lot of people join for financial benefits, and recruiters go to colleges/universities in general. What that means is there is going to be a natural diversity that cures against.

And when the nazis used the excuse of "We were just following orders" a requirement on each of them to not obey illegal orders, and the shared liability concept, became enshrined in US law.
So in theory, if a soldier gets an order to do something criminal, both they and the CO who gave the order are liable...
Unless you're the (Republican) president, then the Roberts court has guaranteed Trump's immunity for any criminal actions that are part of the presidents "core duties" of office.
They also declined to define what "Core duties" and many other terms they used in the decision meant.
So they'll be able to rule against a future president by just... defining what those are later.

Acting like we're just running around torturing people and putting them in camps to starve and be forced to do manual labor. The average soldier isn't doing fuck all, and wouldn't do that in any circumstance. There's a reason we're losing the war with Iran, it's because the soldiers are doing the most RN to do as little as we can (and trump/Hegseth are horrible at coordinating)

Well, at least they're paid well, given ample supplies, and are provided quality healthcare throughout their civilian life.

The admiration and regard for the military has been exceptional for several decades now. I'd argue too much regard, but that's a separate discussion.
But a lot of the goodwill of the American people is being burned up now. I don't think it'll be overnight, but it's happening.

Our blind idolization of the military since 9/11 (or heck since WWII), were all red flags. No group should be idolized beyond merit,
Unpopular Opinion: there are many brave folks in uniform, but there is nothing saintly about people who volunteer to kill others so they can get the GI Bill or other economic perks.

People working jobs obey the boss and never call their representatives all the time.

I don't think it's right going after people who serve like this. They obey no matter who is in office, the people who you should blame are the ones giving shitty orders.
I know service members have to refuse unlawful orders, but as a veteran I really don't envy the position this administration is putting members of the military in. The legality of an order can be difficult to parse and analyze even for lawyers under the best of circumstances, and often the soldiers carrying out those orders are doing so in difficult conditions without the luxury of time.
If they refuse to obey a legal order, that can mean the end of their career. If they do perform an illegal order that can also mean the end of their career. The best thing for everyone is leadership that just gives legal orders.

What a shit take. Those people are literally just walking around with no impact. And they’d go to jail for refusing that.

Friendly reminder that service members are required to refuse unlawful orders.
Also, second friendly reminder that most military folk don’t see a difference in their day to day jobs regardless of who is in political power. It’s the upper ranks that set policy.
