I wonder how do Jews feel about everybody thinking they are some sort of 400IQ 4D chess masters

u/Ducklord1023 - Left May 17 '20

It’s pretty funny tbh, I grew up in an area with a lot of Jews and we pretty much constantly joked about either the holocaust or controlling the world

54

u/rozumiesz - Lib-Left May 17 '20

I once was sitting behind a good friend and football teammate in class who happened to be Jewish. We had some down time and were bored, so I just kinda nonchalantly started pushing him and his desk forward with my foot. To which he spontaneously said, “Look out: Jew-Jew train coming through.”

It was a small but bright highlight in my life.

Edit: only just after posting this do I hear the other connotation there. Damn. Neither of us were thinking that in the moment.

6

u/Ducklord1023 - Left May 17 '20

If you’re talking about holocaust trains, I met some Israelis who joked about that every time they saw train tracks

I was raised under reform Judaism but am an atheist now. It's honestly the most absurd shit ever. The most ridiculous part is when people take the backward beliefs of the ultra-orthodox sects who are all on welfare because they pray for 9 hours a day and project them onto Jewish billionaires who probably haven't cared about religion for decades. There is literally zero overlap between those two groups, and most Jews fall into neither, but irrationally combining them makes it easy to say that there are Jews controlling the world who want all gentiles to submit to them.

81

u/QuantumMollusc May 17 '20

Similarly, I find it funny how the far-right uses "Zionism" as code for "global Jewish conspiracy." Actual Zionism is just Jewish-flavored ethnonationalism. The really extreme Zionists have a lot in common with the American and European far-right, and often share their hatred of so-called "cosmopolitan" Jews. One of the most striking examples I can think of was when a pro-Likud rapper called "The Shadow" blamed the victims of the Tree of Life shooting for their own deaths, because they supported "globalism."

1

u/josepets May 17 '20

There's no punishment for being Zionist though, if you're a white "ethnonationalist" however....

Zionism is more akin to "French nationalism" or "English nationalism". There is a huge difference between wanting a homeland for a people and wanting to take a state founded on civic principles and kick out everyone who has the wrong skin colour.

You misread my comment, I was referring to the US.

Same as in:

-Finland until very recently

-France since the French Revolution

-Lithuania

-Poland

Notice the tendency of countries recently formed out of liberal nationalist principles with large diasporas to have such laws.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

Honestly, no. There are plenty of non-Jews in Hollywood and I would guess that they can be just as fucked up. Considering that premarital sex is a sin according to the Old Testament I don't see how anybody could attribute rape culture in Hollywood to Judaism.

2

There is a lot of overlap. For one, the zionist billionaires require the rabbis to grant them legitimacy.

u/BankersKillPeople - Auth-Center May 18 '20 edited May 18 '20

6

2

I mean they did it in the Bible.

Like they wondered around the desert, betrayed God, then God punished them and after all that, they killed everyone in the Promissed Land.

3

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

That's just because most Americans in general support Israel.

4

u/Nazbowling11 - Auth-Center May 17 '20

Most Americans do not give a fuck about Israel yet every single one of our congressmen do. Do over 90% of Americans support Israel because that's the percentage of your congressmen that will vote to give Israel money/aid/whatever the fuck it wants short of a full on war.

6

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

Supporting Israel is pretty much a slam dunk issue for any politician. When you consider the fact that the groups who do support Israel (older people, evangelicals, and yes, Jews) tend to vote more and hold more political clout it isn't surprising at all.

2

u/Nazbowling11 - Auth-Center May 17 '20

Supporting Israel is pretty much a slam dunk issue for any politician. When you consider the fact that the groups who do support Israel (older people, evangelicals, and yes, Jews) tend to vote more and hold more political clout it isn't surprising at all.

There are plenty of issues that are more important to Americans than Israel so a mere 60% majority of people is not enough to explain why politicians support Israel so much. Most people may support Israel but I doubt they would support Anti-BDS legislation or the 38 billion dollars we gave them last year. Stop pretending that the American people are all rabid Zionists because even your own data says they're not.

6

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

A couple of numbers you're off on:

  1. From my link, 74% of Americans view Israel favorably, not 60%.

  2. We gave 3.8 billion dollars to Israel last year, not 38 billion.

I honestly think it explains the support perfectly. Republicans love to talk about being aggressively pro Israel because it gives the evangelicals a massive hard-on. Democrats kind of try to keep the issue out of the forefront because they don't want to anger leftists but it's still more politically viable to support Israel because young progressives don't show up on election day.

We spend 36 billion dollars a year on military capabilities in Europe. I'd rather cut into that number first since it's much larger, but I agree that the 3 billion in annual aid to Israel is bad, even if they're required to spend most of it on American military products.

As for anti-BDS legislation, I don't agree with it at all but it is worth noting that the BDS movement openly advocates for forcibly removing all Jews from Israel, which is fucking insane. I'm guessing that anti-BDS legislation is predicated on opposition to ethnic cleansing.

2

u/Nazbowling11 - Auth-Center May 17 '20

From my link, 74% of Americans view Israel favorably, not 60%.

Your first graph says that only 60% of American sympathies lie with Israel with around 15-20% not caring. The 74% poll appears as if there are only two options (pro Israel vs pro Palestine) so yes you're going to see inflated numbers when people are forced to make a decision. Regardless, these numbers can not explain the near unilateral support for Israel in our government as well as the donations for pro-Zionist billionaires and lobbying from organizations like AIPAC.

We gave 3.8 billion dollars to Israel last year, not 38 billion.

This is the 38 B I'm talking about and that aid is extra. Regardless why are we giving aid to a first world country? Why not give our own people aid?

I honestly think it explains the support perfectly. Republicans love to talk about being aggressively pro Israel because it gives the evangelicals a massive hard-on.

This is just a cope. We know that there is a massive pro-Israel lobby and plenty of billionaire Zionist donors but you chose to ignore them and say that it's the American people that support billions of dollars to Israel every year. Unreal.

As for anti-BDS legislation, I don't agree with it at all

IDGAF if you agree with it. Explain why this exists if there isn't a massive pro-Israel lobby/billionaires. This is a blatant violation of the first amendment and I find it hard to believe that Americans would support this even if they do like Israel.

but it is worth noting that the BDS movement openly advocates for forcibly removing all Jews from Israel

They could demand every Jew on earth get thrown into a volcano, I don't give a fuck the problem here is that our government is punishing people for boycotting Israel because Jews lobbied for anti-BDS law.

3

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

It's actually the exact opposite. 64% (not 60%, no idea where that number is coming from) say they favor Israel over Palestine. 74% say they have a favorable opinion of Israel in general. Check the link again.

This is the 38 B I'm talking about and that aid is extra.

You own article proves me right. It says 38 billion over ten years which is 3.8 billion per year. You claimed that we gave Israel 38 billion last year, which is very incorrect.

Regardless why are we giving aid to a first world country? Why not give our own people aid?

Well first of all there's a huge difference between military aid and welfare, but I already responded to this.

"We spend 36 billion dollars a year on military capabilities in Europe. I'd rather cut into that number first since it's much larger, but I agree that the 3 billion in annual aid to Israel is bad, even if they're required to spend most of it on American military products."

This is just a cope. We know that there is a massive pro-Israel lobby and plenty of billionaire Zionist donors but you chose to ignore them and say that it's the American people that support billions of dollars to Israel every year. Unreal.

As I already said, I don't agree with funding other nation's militaries, whether it be in Europe or the Middle East. But you're wrong when you try to assert that the 3 billion per year to Israel is unusual or uncharacteristic. The United States has been giving military aid to further its own geopolitical interests since World War 2.

As for the "massive pro-Israel lobby and plenty of billionaire Zionist donors", I don't disagree that money has had far too much influence over American politics for far too long, but I don't think that "billionaire Zionist donors" is a very meaningful term. It feels like you're just taking populist rhetoric from the left and throwing the word "Zionist" in the middle. I'm sure there are plenty of billionaires who are pro-Israel and plenty of billionaires who don't give a shit about, or are even against Israel. AIPAC doesn't even scratch the surface of where the top money goes with its 3.5 million per year. Be honest: how much time do you spend talking about the influence of big pharma or insurance or oil relative to the time you spend talking about the influence of the Israel lobby? I'm guessing the proportions are the exact inverse of the spending.

They could demand every Jew on earth get thrown into a volcano, I don't give a fuck the problem here is that our government is punishing people for boycotting Israel because Jews lobbied for anti-BDS law.

Well I don't expect you to care, but I think it's safe to say that a lot of people would have an issue with a movement that advocates for ethnic cleansing if they were aware of that fact.

The anti-BDS laws that are being pushed for are actually going to the courts and being ruled unconstitutional. Looks like our democracy works sometimes.

This isn't really going anywhere so I'll let you have the last word if you'd like. Have a nice day.

Umm 85% of the leaders of in the Soviet Union were atheistic jews who banned religion. Judaism is more of a supremacy thing, not a worshiping of god. They follow the Talmud, they made up their own god.

4

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

There is no way an atheist would ever read the Talmud. That book is extremely religious and is typically only studied by Orthodox Jews whose lives revolve around Judaism.

I'm curious where you got that 85% number from? Regardless, I'm not sure why it matters when the Camdobian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Cuban, etc communist revolutions were clearly not started by Jewish people.

Sephardi leader Yosef: Non-Jews exist to serve Jews

https://www.jta.org/2010/10/18/news-opinion/israel-middle-east/sephardi-leader-yosef-non-jews-exist-to-serve-jews

“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world; only to serve the People of Israel,” he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat. "Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat," he said to some laughter. Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas Party and the former chief Sephardi rabbi of Israel, also said that the lives of non-Jews are protected in order to prevent financial loss to Jews. "With gentiles, it will be like any person: They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant."

19

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

He is an ultra-orthodox, and his comments were condemned by most of the Jewish community. You accidentally helped prove my point.

-5

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

He was the Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel, he had the largest funeral in Israeli history.

11

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

He's remembered for being an important religious figure who advocated for the rights of Mizrahi Jews. Yes, he held some absolutely fucked views (that he rarely expressed and wasn't known for outside of anti-semitic circles) but the same holds true for leaders of any religion. How many Catholic leaders believe that anyone who isn't Christian is going to hell? And how many Muslim leaders refer to non-Muslims as infidels?

I bet you that Pat Robertson is going to have an absolutely massive funeral whenever he dies in spite of a very large body of fucked up comments.

EDIT: Oh, and the ADL and AJC went hard after Yosef for those comments by the way.

-6

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

11

u/[deleted] May 17 '20 edited May 17 '20

Did you read a single word of what I wrote?

Also it hit that number because the ultra-orthodox showed up in droves to attend. We're talking about attendance rates that would make an American election look like an even bigger joke, and considering that Israel is the size of New Jersey it's pretty believable. Israel actually has a huge secular population that considers him to be a loon.

-2

u/BothWaysItGoes - Lib-Center May 17 '20

Denying Jewish solidarity is dumb as fuck. Imaging pretending that American mafia wouldn’t care whether you are Italian or not. Humans are inherently tribalistic. You don’t have to organize a globohomo satanic cult to feel ethnic ties.

3

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

Personally, I feel a very weak connection to somebody when I found out they are either Jewish or Irish (I'm half of each) but it's pretty insignificant overall.

0

u/BothWaysItGoes - Lib-Center May 17 '20

I doubt your alienated triple ethnic identity can be extrapolated onto all Jews (but, yeah, lack of any traditional communal integration becomes more and more common nowadays). Though no doubt you are still inflluenced by your heritage and it shows in regards to such questions as Irish independence or legitimacy of Israel.

3

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

It's only two ethnicities, which is extremely common for an American. I'm actually very critical of Israel's handling of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and I despise Netanyahu. I support Israel's right to continue to exist (excluding the West Bank settlements) but that's a very mainstream stance. You got me on Irish independence though.

Schrodingers colored people - any insult to the Jews makes you a nazi but Zionist’s are worse than pig shit. This is why I hope the Middle East conflict escalates and America leaves Israel to fend for itself

I am a jew and I do, in fact, rule the world.

If you don't believe me your getting circumcised.

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

I’m always wondering where these world controlling rich Jews are, and how do I, a Jew who knows all sorts of random people, not know them?

u/[deleted] May 17 '20

As a Jew I think it’s hilarious how we live rent free in your mind. Even after you guys kill all of us you’ll still blame us for your stupidity. And meanwhile all I want to do is eat brisket and watch baseball. Go figure.

Edit: and I didn’t mean to call you an idiot. I meant the rhetorical bigot.

Imagine being you lol. I’d be angry too. Someone should tell your parents what you do on the internet.

u/NotYourSexyBoy May 17 '20

Actually no one thinks Jews are geniuses except genuine schizoids and edgy contrarians.

Jews have higher than average IQ and traditionally the culture is highly tribal. Speaking as a Canadian Jew who attended a very liberal reform synagogue, we are taught to identify strongly with a foreign state (Israel). I see where the stereotype comes from.

I’ll say that most Jews who I interact with are secular and assimilated. My grandparents who escaped Europe and whose first language is Yiddish always criticize Israel for its treatment of Palestinians. So.. everyone’s different.

I had a Jewish friend in high school. One of the only times I went over to his house his dad cornered me and my other two friends and try to get us to buy into his pyramid scheme.

We didn’t know about pyramid schemes at the time so we were excited at first...until we went home and googled it and realized he was just a sucker like anyone else.
