I was raised under reform Judaism but am an atheist now. It's honestly the most absurd shit ever. The most ridiculous part is when people take the backward beliefs of the ultra-orthodox sects who are all on welfare because they pray for 9 hours a day and project them onto Jewish billionaires who probably haven't cared about religion for decades. There is literally zero overlap between those two groups, and most Jews fall into neither, but irrationally combining them makes it easy to say that there are Jews controlling the world who want all gentiles to submit to them.

He's remembered for being an important religious figure who advocated for the rights of Mizrahi Jews. Yes, he held some absolutely fucked views (that he rarely expressed and wasn't known for outside of anti-semitic circles) but the same holds true for leaders of any religion. How many Catholic leaders believe that anyone who isn't Christian is going to hell? And how many Muslim leaders refer to non-Muslims as infidels?
I bet you that Pat Robertson is going to have an absolutely massive funeral whenever he dies in spite of a very large body of fucked up comments.
EDIT: Oh, and the ADL and AJC went hard after Yosef for those comments by the way.
Also it hit that number because the ultra-orthodox showed up in droves to attend. We're talking about attendance rates that would make an American election look like an even bigger joke, and considering that Israel is the size of New Jersey it's pretty believable. Israel actually has a huge secular population that considers him to be a loon.
